our new favorite thai restaurant. grade: b+/a-
there are those times when you just kick yourself for having passed by a place for years and wondering what it would be like, only to discover that it was phenomenal. did it again.
for years we’ve ignored a little thai restaurant hidden away in the corner of a strip mall. when we finally tasted whatelephantjumps had to offer, we realized we’d been skipping past a gem.
small and simple, with nearly bare walls and tables slid together or apart to make the appropriate number, it is an unassuming place with a warm, attentive staff. the menu runs the gamut of thai dishes with some playful fusion thrown in. based on what we sampled, it would be safe to assume that anything here would be good.
for starters, the thai dumplings were excellent and the shrimp flat bread was exceptional. the drunken noodles had a wonderful heat and a flavor reminiscent of chinese dan dan noodles.
as much as i wanted to be adventurous and try one of the dishes with enchanting titles, i had pad thai on the brain when i came through the door. believe me, ordering this was not a cop-out. this was probably the best representative example of the country’s national dish that i have ever had. paired with a singha beer , the meal was satisfying and reasonably priced.
the entrees came in generous portions and we could probably have gotten by with one for the two of us…but then we’d have missed out on one of the flavor experiences. instead, we joyfully took home leftovers of both our mains.
and for us, here’s the best part – they deliver! we will definitely be enjoying the food fromelephantjumps again.
