dux dine

we booked for party of 4 at 1pm today, we arrived at 1.05pm and waited 5 minutes to be greeted and then seated at an unset table. the waiter asked if we wanted coffees and explained if we did there would be a long wait. we asked for wine and beer and never saw him again. 20 minutes waiting and we saw no-one, so we left. really disappointed, as we'd all sorted our drinks and food orders. left our table, which was still unset, we were still unattended, unfed and unseen. went to papanui club with no booking and it was awesome, cheaper,greatquality and they served and greeted us straightaway.

extremely nice and helpful service. ordered the prawn pizza and it was delicious! after reading reviews and the menu online, we were really excited to try the seafood pasta but unfortunately they didn't sell it anymore. nevertheless,greatatmosphere and good food. the food took a while to come out, but i assume that's because they were hosting an 18th at the same time.

i love the decor of this place! it's so beautiful, especially in the evenings. the service is alwaysgreatand i enjoy that this place is mostly seafood, vegetarian and vegan options.

this was one of the worst dining experiences i have ever had. firstly, they hadn't arranged enough seating for our table of about 20 to sit and already had all the other tables booked so everyone was forced to cramp in uncomfortably and closely together. secondly, i couldn't afford both the main and dessert on the set menu for our table because i'm a student and have little money at the moment ($52 per person at the table) so i asked if i could just have a main.  the manager then refused, got pissed and told me no because "how were they suppose to make money" (despite having a whole table of 20 people paying the full price),  he then made the suggestion that i ask everyone at my table to "pitch in" to buy my dessert, which is not only incredibly embarrassing to do, but also made me feel worse for not being able to pay for my meal. i then eventually left the restaurant in tears told the manager i was leaving cause i really couldn't afford what they were asking. he  then responded with a blunt "that's cool" as i walked out. definitely would not recommend this restaurant to anyone that enjoysgreatcustomer service.

dined here with my family for my daughters birthday.  lovely setting,greatstaff who know their stuff.  nice relaxing vibe plus the food was wonderful, very fresh and well presented.  every course we chose different things and the food was faultless.  definately recommended, will be back.

agreatplace to dine . i visited this beautiful place recently with my indian friends .food and surroundings both weregreatexcept for the blue cod was little undercooked for one of my friends but another curious and first time visitor friend was very delighted with his experience. surely would visit this happy place again:)

it is such a popular place full of people talking loud to each other. you can feel the atmosphere everyone is happy there.

we had halloumi cheese salad and flat bread for lunch. the salad was a bit too sweet while the flat bread was just perfect with all the cute dippings. to fill my stomach i ordered a pizza as well. it was a tasty treat with a good amount of toppings.

everything wasgreatexcept the long blonde hair in my salad. not so sure whether it was from a chef or a waitress though i did not find any chef with long blonde hair. but they quickly offered me another one. so it was okay.

we went to this place morning later for a breakfast. we had a porridge with rhubarb and portobello mushrooms followed by a long black and a flat white. meal was delicious, service was first class and the place is very nice as well. in summary this is a very classic place with good vibe,greatservices and excellent food. definitely a good spot for your breakfast or lunch time.

consistently excellent food and presentation.greatservice. beautiful renovated villa with open gas fire places for cold winter days, and a spacious outdoor patio area to dine on hot summer days.

absolutely stunning!greatservice, excellent garden bar, drinks served ice cold which was brilliant! the most delicious serving of filo i have ever tasted! i could rate this place a billion if i could! pretty decent time wait too and the french girl that served us had an awesome accent and was super friendly! will definitely be returning!

booked at the last minute on a friday night and the lady on the phone was all too happy to accomodate my 3pax. once arriving, we were promptly seated and supplied water and menus. we placed our drinks order and were informed of the day's specials which all sounded incredibly appetising.
our entrees - crab and prawn dumplings, calamari, the scallop special, and the seafood chowder came out remarkably fast and were exceptional; these were quickly followed by our three substantial mains - the tuna special, the pasta, and salmon.
no faults could be found with any of our dishes and the house lager was hoppy yet balanced and was agreataccompaniment to the seafood. the service was great, despite the slight language barrier and loud ambient sound.

pleasantly surprised by this restaurant each time i've been. they cookgreatfish, good enough that i haven't actually strayed further through their menu, and i just can't get enough of the polenta fries. service has been really good each time.

just experienced an average dinner. staff were friendly & helpful. we were shifted tables to a quieter area in a very agreeable way. food was well presented and tasty but then came the big disappointment of the evening. we were recommended a different wine for both of our seafood dishes but decided to go for a cmpromise wine that would suit both of them, thinking that any wine left over we would take home. when we asked about that, (after the bottle was opened) we were told that under no circumstances could we take any left over wine home due to some licensing law, even though we'd paid for it. this curtailed our spending on desserts consequently and made it a very average dining experience from what could have been agreatdining experience for our 32nd wedding anniversary.

things that were good.... good wine and beer selection, perfectly cooked grouper and terikihi and calamari
things that wern't so good..... floury tasting coating on calamari, general lack of seasoning in just about everything, grotty truck stop salt and pepper shakers, dirty beer glasses, staff in dirty shirts and aprons and iodised salt instead of some nice flaked sea salt.
in summary the experience was disappointing and could have been a lot better with a little attention to detail. the new dux dine has the potential to be agreatdining location and as we get more choices in christchurch places that don't hit the mark won't survive. i hope that with the history that dux has it doesn't become one of those places that we used to go to.

i'm confused by the poor ratings below. i have breakfast at dux dine most mornings. fantastic. very comfortable,greatfood,greatservice. have had dinner quite a few times with friends and occasionally big groups....never disappointed. had dinner last night with several others. fabulous blue cod. oysters were said to be terrific and fresh. four desserts shared amongst us...none disappointed. this place is a favourite and with so many new places opening in christchurch, it has to be to deserve my loyalty. sorry some of you have had bad experiences but i think that is not the norm.
