tried for too long to learn prices. they don't put prices on their online menu. i tried for much longer than i had time for to find out what their prices are. i still don't know. because of that, i don't believe i will ever set foot in this restaurant.

what a terrible experience. scheduled a birthday dinner and had an awful experience. i had high expectations for this legendary phoenix establishment. clear they are past their prime, just as my steak was cooked well past the desired level. take two on the steak resulted in a nearly rare piece of meat that wasn't even in the neighborhood of medium well. i hate having to send food back, but these two attempts were not even close to the mark. ruins the whole dining experience when two members of the party are eating, offering to share their food, etc. good news was their service recovery....i didn't have to pay for the steak i never ate. wow!

way overpriced! for a so-so dinner. i had friends visiting from out of town. with 1 bottle of wine, 3 steaks, and 1 after dinner drink the bill was almost $500 with tip for 3 people.

they could not transfer the bar bill to our table so this did not include a drink before dinner. this is just poor service.

service was ok, but not great. food was ok, but not great. atmosphere is great for an "old school" steak house.

the maître d' ran around all night with a disapproving "turd under his nose" look while appearing to do nothing. he made us feel genuinely unwelcome. for this price the dinner should have been spectacular. it was not! i will not be going back. i would recommend not going to durants. it was quite a disappointment.

overpriced. we took some customers there this week and were disappointed. service was slow and i had to ask for drink refills twice. the scallaops were way over priced for the serving. the filet was of good quality but was served only warm and somewhat dry. appeared to have set under the warming light too long. overall the $100 a person was more like a $50 a person meal.

old time charm. came here by cab on a fiery hot june night -- we were warned by our hotel concierge that the outside would look like a "strip joint," but that the food would make up for it -- so we were not shocked when we got there or when we were led into the dining room through the kitchen.
the dining room is very "clubby" and certainly fits the bill of an old time steakhouse.
my party included a retired state supreme court chief justice, a current presiding judge of a state court of criminal appeals and a former state lieutenant governor, along with us common folk. we were bitterly chastised for making use of cell phones ("not allowed in the dining room") and the retired chief justice was banished to the bathroom area to finish her cell call.
how utterly refreshing! an old time establishment with an old time attitude that maintains an old time atmosphere wholly unmatched by today's "cookie cutter" restaurants.
and the food's pretty damn good, too!

disappointed. it's been 5 years since i was there and i still tell people how disappointed i was. if you like rude waiters and waitresses this is the place for you. things were different when old man durant was still alive and running the place.

nowhere else for my steak money. waiters attend regularly scheduled wine training. the steaks are outstanding. the martinis, legend. reviewers who are disappointed in the non-steak entrees...what were you thinking? reviewers who whine about the prices, you should have done your homework. if there's ever a problem with the meal or service, it's rectified immediately. nothing compares to durant's. they've earned their good name and reputation. i prefer a booth in the bar because i like its feel and because the dining room can get a little noisy. i don't need the 'beautiful peoples' allures of n. scottsdale or pseudo- avante garde decor. i always receive top-notch service and outstanding food at durant's, even if i can't afford to go with the frequency i'd wish. dp

i just cannot understand the bad reviews on this fine place.

we have patronized durant's every time we are in phoenix, for years, and absolutely everything; food, service, atmosphere, drinks, etc. has been wonderful !

guess you can't please everyone. ignore the nay-sayers, and don't miss this wonderful place !

long-time hungry customer. we have been enjoying durant's since 1977. if you want a real steak place, this is it! when we lived in central phx we we there almost weekly. our kids grew up saying "hi" to ernie as we entered the kitchen entrance, making calls from the phone booth, on their great food and napping between dinner and dessert in booth 55, our favorite! now that we have moved further away, we make it a point to try to get there monthly. we can't go too long between orders of oysters rock and creme bruele' and, of course, their wonderful prime rib and filet's! we enjoyed their 50th and just recently their 60th anniversary celebration! hope to celebrate number 70 too! if you want the real thing, this is the place to go!

if you like old, retro restaurants that harken back to simpler times like i do you should like walking in to durant's. the entry is surprisingly through the kitchen! which could be considered eclectic or bizarre--more bizarre for me. it was an opportunity to see the kitchen and waive uncertainly to the cook's and wait staff. i was looking forward to this classic steak house but was left disappointed like some other reviewers. i ordered a martini which was excellent, but asked for three olives but only received two which seemed to exemplify my waiter--apeared attentive, but wasn't. the food was preceded by some vegetables, covered with ice and some ranch dressing. they serve a garlic bread that is covered with garlic and what i believe to be scallion, which i enjoyed. i ordered the prime rib, medium rare, a salad, and a baked potato. the salad, with the house french vinaigrette was excellent. i thought things were going pretty well until my prime rib arrived. much more medium than medium rare and luke warm. same for the baked potato. the texture and flavor of the meat was good, but the temperature and slow delivery ruined it. i finished the meal with coffee, which was excellent although not refilled. over all the food was over-priced for the quality and did not live up to expectations. try someplace else in phoenix!

very dissappointed!. durants has been one of my father in laws favorite restaurant for over 40 years. he is currently homebound with a terminal illness. we thought it would be nice to pick up his favorite salad from durants. we came in on a sunday afternoon. there were few patrons in the place. we asked for a salad to go - we were going to enjoy a drink at the bar while we waited. the staff informed us that they do not do take out orders. we explained our circumstance but the mgr refused. there wasn't even any explaination as to why they would not do it. we are frequent restaurant goers and will never dine here again. we have several friends that visit the downtown area for events and will inform them of what happened. my father in law was so dissappointed as he and his buddies were frequent patrons. he will certainly let his friends know of our experience. what happened to customer service? expecially with the economy down. lost our business ....forever
