off the mark. thisplacewas better before the owners combined a separate japanese & vietnamese operation, next door to each other. the japanese side was the least desirable & the sushi is still overpriced & lacks the wider choices of larger sushi establishments in the area. also, the sushi chefs aren't japanese, a common happening in baton rouge. other japanese items are just so-so, but, it's difficult to find real japanese home cooking in a town that thinks sushi or robata style food are the only things eaten in japan. the vietnamese selections are somewhat better, tho there are some really authentic vietnamese eateries with better variety & less expensive prices on the eastern edge of ebr parish. also, the last time i was at drunken fish, the service was awful. the young woman serving me didn't seem to know the menu very well & i had a lot of trouble attempting to communicate my desires for certain authentic items of this cuisine. it may be close to lsu, but the drive out florida blvd. will provide one with a more satisfying experience for indo-chinese eats.

one of the best things about thisplaceis that there’s so many types of food to pick from. my favorite by far is the pho, but the sushi is good too. would recommend trying their special rolls.

sad excuse for viet/jap cuisine. first things first, if you think you're getting authentic or even quality cuisine here, you are dead wrong.

the restaurant owner is an old vietnamese guy who has no actual training in the art of sushi. he only makes his sushi to emulate the typical "american" sushi by using extremely unhealthy and cheap ingredients and overprices them. don't even bother with the vietnamese food because the vietnamese chefs somehow screws this up as well. the pho is bland and they don't provide you the freedom of flavoring your food yourself. instead, they give you an unbalanced plate of dried or old vegetables and a dab of condiments. lastly, service is horrible as they hire waiters/waitresses who are ignorant in the food service industry and lack decent work ethics. in fact, the entire staff is lacking in this department. i've gotten warm sushi because the waitress didn't bother to even check my order and the chef didn't even call out that the order was ready. my pho came out cold and my order of egg rolls were fried beyond crisp. and somehow, even the egg rolls came out cold.

if you're looking for a goodplaceto eat japanese/vietnamese cuisine at an affordable price, commit seppuku if you're even considering going to this place. i'd advise you diners (current and future) to find two separate restaurants that specialize in those cuisines. it'll save you the stomach ache and any negative feelings you may have for asian restaurants.

average sushi & friendly service. the fish was fresh for the most part but nothing on the menu really caught my eye. for aplacecalled the "drunken fish" i was expecting a fun atmosphere but it felt more like i just stepped into an upgraded fast food restaurant with tacky decor. however, not the worst sushiplacei've been to.

love this place!. i absolutely loved this place! i came here with some friends and we got all sushi rolls. we go to college at lsu so it was a great location because it was not a far drive at all! its a nice littleplacethat is locally owned by a vietnamese family so everything is special made from them and its all very unique, unlike chain restaurants. the prices were great for how much sushi you get in a special roll and they were really good for the regular rolls too! we got some rolls fried and some raw. the fried ones were still so warm when they got to the table, and the raw ones were so fresh! which can be hard to find around here sometimes. the edamame and miso soup were amazing too! the servers were all really nice girls when we went who helped us pick rolls based on what we said we each liked and they were in college too so they were friendly and waited on us great! even the chefs and hostess seemed really nice! the environment is calm and relaxing. you can dress up for it or you don't have to!
all in all, thisplaceis by far my favoriteplacei've found to enjoy a really really good sushi dinner with some great friends!!!!!!

the restaurant itself is nice. the staff friendly, service is good, and theplaceseems clean. the sushi are just as they are at any decent american-style sushi place. fine, but nothing spectacular.

it's not just a sushi place, but also carries vietnamese menu items. one of my favorite things in the world is pho, so the rest of this review focuses primarily on exactly that.

the drunken fish's pho is meh. the broth's flavor is good and it comes very hot, so that's nice. there's nothing worse than being served luke warm pho, so they got that part right. but they are stingy with the meat and waaay too generous with the noodles. every time i end up with a soggy mess of rice noddles left in the bowl after all the broth is finished (and long after the last of the meat is finished). the last few times my bean sprouts did not seem all that fresh and crisp either. finally, they offer only beef/meatball or chicken pho and other traditional ingredients like soft tendon etc and not available. overall, i have to say that it does hit the spot and is decent pho, but the only reason why i keep eating it here is because the drunken fish is really the onlyplaceclose to where i live, where you can get pho at all. so if you have a craving for pho and you have the time, take the drive to viet garden way out on florida. but in a pinch, this will do.

fantastic. this is my favoriteplaceto get sushi in baton rouge. their baked salmon appetizer is out of this world and i've never tasted a sushi roll that i didn't like. the prices are very reasonable and it's the perfectplacefor quiet dining.

horrible service. going into the drunken fish we were already really hungry, the hostess was fast to sit out down, but little did we know that it would be aplacewe would be stuck at for a while. the server took forever to even ask us what we wanted to drink. then about ten minutes later my husband finally was able to flag her down so we could order. we ordered a philly roll and the dare devil. when the sushi finally did come it was very good quality and at that point we had been waiting so long that we were happy to get anything. when our red devil dish finally arrived it was something you cook yourself, which made me wonder why it took so long to bring us something that didn't even need to be cooked. the waitress had no answer and simply went on her way. seeing as we were sitting right next to the open kitchen i believe it might have something to do with them seeming understaffed and the chef constantly talking on his cell phone or texting instead of cooking. i really wish the service was better because the food was great, but uncomfortably that is not enough to make me go back.

last resort vietnamese and basement quality sushi. well, i had an unstoppable urge for vietnamese food so i drove all around baton rouge only to find two that were closed for good, one with a vacation sign on the door, and then drunken fish. i ordered the pork spring rolls, a spicy tuna roll, and the beef pho. first off, the service is horrible. i watched the owner make the tuna roll. he set it up on the counter ready for the server to deliver it. the server walked by it several times and didn't notice. she then proceeded to do everything but serving (filling bottles, wrapping things, etc). i looked at the sushi guy and he didn't care, let along walk it over 10 feet to drop it off. one of the other reviewers noted that the place's casual service was akin to a social club with the employees chatting and doing nothing. i'd say he was spot on. so then came the spring rolls. the server set them down and walked away quickly. now, these rolls were one shade away from black (way over fried) so she didn't care to notice or either she tried to get away before i could say, "what the hell is this?!" the spicy tuna roll was awful. the fish was more suited to cat food than for humans with all of its white connective tissue. it was obviously frozen and slightly grey. the role had hardly and flavor, despite it being a spicy tuna. then came the soup. pho broth is supposed to be clear and very hot (so it can cook the ingredients like the bean sprouts and beef). it was cloudy and not hot. i was also disappointed that you can't even order the usual pho ingredients such as different kinds of beef and tendon. you either get beef or beef and meatballs. my bill was $24 out the door and a waste. reserve this restaurant as a last resort for when you just have to get your vietnamese fix. otherwise, you could throw darts at a phonebook to find a betterplacethan this.

hmmmm.. i have eaten at thisplaceon a couple of occasions and my girlfriend more so. the problems we have encountered are pretty extensive. it's listing time y'all...

1. the service: poor, poor poor. i understand we live around a university and so most restaurants hire students but thisplaceseems to be the epitome of 'casual hangout' instead of workplace. no one seems to care, lots of people standing around yapping everywhere, its basically reginelli's without the pizza.

2. the prices vs quality: because of its convenience my girlfriend has eaten sushi here on a few occasions and the same qualms have always came about. it is really expensive for what it is. you can get much better sushi elsewhere at a cheaper price, and its not like the sushi is even that great/fresh tasting.

3. certain menu items: a word to the wise, avoid anything on their menu that says it's cooked on a hot plate at your table. i could go into a rant here about how i don't go to a restaurant to cook my own food but even that is beside the point with the problems this caused. one word: smoke. after attempting to cook the beef myself the amount of smoke produced inside this relatively smallplacewas considerable. so much so that they had to prop the door open to avoid my meal suffocating myself and their other patrons. i'm sure i'm not the first person to have this problem so i can't see why they still think this is a good idea, it's unnecessarily pretentious for a college sushi joint and an altogether bad idea.

i can't see any reason why i would venture back to the drunken fish, there are so, so many better options out there in the surrounding area that there really isn't any justification.

don't go in late!. i've been a regular customer for years. i live close and frequently order rolls to go.
the sushi is "okay", noodle dishes i've haven't tried in years. i didn't like them when they first opened and have had no desire to try them again.
the prices are on the low side for sushi. i guess i spend a few bucks per meal less than sushi yamas. the advantage isn't the price, for my wife and sons the $15 bucks saved on an $80 meal is irrelevant. i go because it's generally not crowded like other sushi restaurants.
my last visit the staff started mopping the floors before 9 pm in the unoccupied portion of the restaurant with pine cleaner midway through my dinner! as i complained their eyes just glazed over, no apology forth coming. i nice meal ruined, $100 bill plus tip for the 5 of us wasted. the wholeplacesmelled like a freshly cleaned urinal. i couldn't taste the rest of my dinner sans the wasabi which had a pine-sol after taste.
i won't be back.
