a visual treat, with food to match. ended up here after walking back from the saturday market and i must say; this isnt the type of place i usually dine or drink at. that being said i was really impressed with doug fir. the look and design of the place is stunning, from the quality of the materials used to the obvious skill of the architects and contractors involved, i doubt they pinched many pennies putting this gem together. unlike previous reviewers, we had no trouble with our waitstaff, service was nothing special but certainly adequate. as far as the food goes, i had the monte cristo and my wife had the pesto chicken sandwich. the high quality of the ingredients was obvious from the first bite and if i had anything bad to say it would only be that my rosemary potatoes were a little too crispy. otherwise it was agreatmeal (especially at $15 for two people). like i said before, its not the type of place i would usually go, i like things a little dingier, but i would certainly bring friends visiting from out of town here for breakfast or lunch.

love the patio here! sitting around the fire is agreatplace to hang for a while. i wish they had a few more beers on tap, but they have a good selection of bottled beers. the burger was decent — not exceptional, but better than most. hit up the photo booth out back!

car window smashed while visiting doug fir. if you go to doug fir be ready for your car window to be smashed if you park within a block area. we went had agreattime, when we parked we noticed glass around the areas where we parked (within a block) but parked anyway only to find our car window smashed. went back to let them know and the staff literally laughed in our face. is it worth going there ...i think not...take responsibility for your neighborhood and make it safe by patrolling the area and give it a presence.

good concert!. lousy food.
a group of us came up to portland sunday night for the parlotones concert and decided to dine here out of convenience. i had read some of the reviews and had my reservations. that being said the doug fir is an amazing building/venue! they have done agreatjob making the presentation unique & exciting.
now back to the food. i ordered crab cakes right away and these were sub par. i even had a piece of shell in mine. i ordered the sausage & grits which was ok. i guess i like my grits a bit runnier but the flavor was good. the best dish was the flat iron steak but it certainly wasn't $20 good. to top it off the crispy cheese fritters (after the first batch was dropped on the floor!) was overcooked and rather bland.
not all is lost though! the drinks served from the bar upstairs were very good. i was feeling adventurous and order the "dark & stormy" which only i enjoyed. the blackberry cosmo was also spot on!
downstairs is another matter. the staff here was a bit more haughty it seemed and the drinks seem watered down. there was a world of difference between rum & coke upstairs vs. downstairs!
all and all the venue was aesthetically pleasing and cozy. the concert hall was small and made for a personal show. all three bands rocked by the way. i have not written off the doug fir but i'm guessing we won't be here for food again anytime soon. we'll come for the ambiance and concert line up!

imagine if the jetsons had a log cabin!. awesome staff (joe moody is the best bartender ever), good food and awesome drinks...
doug fir has a earthy yet modern feel with out being too pretentious.

great place to have a drink and people watch... they get everyone from the pdx hipsters to the pdx hippies to the ex frat boys to the old couples to the hot lesbians:)

they hold concerts downstairs where the acoustics are awesome for sound and there is room to dance... just wish there was more room to sit.greatfun place to go... i'm sure you'll run into me and my wifey there:)

there is the occasional snotty granola militant liberal who thinks they that isn't ok the be snide and loudly talk crap about people so that they can hear... but it's only amusing because you know that they are so unhappy with themselves that they feel the need to attack unsuspecting strangers in their paths.

you can't help but feel sorry for them, their life must be really sad to feel the need to buy guys drinks in order to get their attention and obsess over stringers sitting at the bar that they will never see again;)

doug fir rocks!. i read the review below and have no idea what this guy is talking about... maybe he was drunk! we've been to fir many times and have never had a bad experience! we love that tattooed and pierced guys can sit next to grandmothers and have agreatmeal! it's what makes portland weird and diverse... nothing "cookie cutter" about this place! there's always rock playing and they have agreatlive venue below the dining room! love the cobb salad and you can't beat the late-night burgers!greatplace to go for breakfast, lunch or early morning after hitting the clubs!

moms and rockers dine together. the last time i've been to the doug fir was when we brought my mom for brunch on mother's day. the food wasgreat(luna scramble), they serve stumptown coffee, and the atmosphere, while hip, isn't intmidatingly so. i've also caught a few shows downstairs in the lounge, and it's agreatplace to get dinner and then see a show (or vice versa).
