a visual treat, with food to match. ended up here after walking back from the saturday market and i must say; this isnt the type of place i usually dine or drink at. that being said i was really impressed with doug fir. the look and design of the place is stunning, from the quality of the materials used to the obvious skill of the architects and contractors involved, i doubt they pinched many pennies putting this gem together. unlike previous reviewers, we had no trouble with our waitstaff, service was nothing special but certainly adequate. as far as the food goes, i had the monte cristo and my wife had the pesto chicken sandwich. the high quality of the ingredients was obvious from the first bite and if i had anything bad to say it would only be that my rosemary potatoes were a little too crispy. otherwise it was a great meal (especially at $15 for two people). like i said before, its not the type of place i would usually go, i like things a little dingier, but i would certainly bring friends visiting from out of town here for breakfast or lunch.

avoid this place. don't waste your time (and money)! i spent $60 for concert tickets and when one of the acts cancelled (the only act worth seeing), they would not refund my money, along with about 50 other people.

i was told by a staff person to contact the manager to resolve my problem, but the manager has ignored my emails. there's no excuse for this kind of horrible customer service -- there are plenty of other venues with good acts in this town

a favorite. whenever i'm in portland i make it a point to try and see a show downstairs. it's easily one of my favorite music venues in town if not the favorite.

as for the food, some interesting choices. i once had the $19 steak which was just fine. i'd really like to try the butternut squash ravioli, roasted chicken, and the meatloaf. perhaps on other visits.

i see some have complained about the service and i think i can see where you're coming from. i've never experienced anything like this myself, but hipster hangouts with their "indier than thou" clientele can sometimes be less than welcoming to those not wearing skinny jeans and flannel. oh well, i guess i just ignore it because there's usually good music, food, and beer to be had.

i love the log cabin decor and the general architecture of the space. the basement acts as a well-known music venue. they have a large outdoor space available for their bar patrons...to my knowledge, no food is served there. the indoors bar lounge is a cool spot to have drinks during a rainy day. however, don't use their restrooms if you're intoxicated. the hallway leading to the restrooms as well as the inside walls are lined with mirrors that play a mean trick on the eyes. i've witnessed many semi-sober folks run into the walls.

the restaurant opens early and serves decent breakfast fare. the food is diner quality, so don't expect much. the restaurant staff is friendly, but bartenders are generally not.

i came here recently with a group of friends to hold a party for our men's club. the venue is in a decent and central location in portland.

i really liked the ambiance of the restaurant and lounge. it has been beautifully renovated and the decor is chic. the cocktails we ordered were tasty and reasonably priced. the food was average.

the service was generally unacceptable while i was there. most of the staff, but not all, were condescending, rude and unhelpful. we were made to feel that we simply weren't important enough to warrant service most of the time. one bartender was especially in a bad mood and made sure to let us know it. the staff were very confused on how to charge us under one bill, even though we had made a party reservation and all of the necessary pre event explanation to arrange one simple payment.

all in all, this place does look good and serves good drinks. however, with all of the options in portland with friendlier and unpretentious staff, i wouldn't recommend going here unless you happen to be conveniently located close to the establishment or going for a show, although viewing the stage is difficult depending on where you are downstairs.

love the patio here! sitting around the fire is a great place to hang for a while. i wish they had a few more beers on tap, but they have a good selection of bottled beers. the burger was decent — not exceptional, but better than most. hit up the photo booth out back!

although the menu looks somewhat imaginative, the food is relatively bland and uneventful. had a blackened chicken sandwich, fish and chips, mac and cheese and pull pork between the group of us - flavors were dull. seems like a cool bar and drinks were much more of a hit.

i wouldn't say i totally dislike this place. sometimes it's fun for drinks. the decor is very pretty. but the food is just ok to me and the staff weren't the friendliest, but not awful either. it's just - ok.

doug fir is amazing. it's been one of my favorite music venues forever. it can get crowded, yes...but it's so nice to be able to see a band rather than to just know that they're up there, on that stage, so far away. and when you're not just there for the music, the bar has an excellent patio making this place a fantastic stop on a summer afternoon. plus, there's a hotel attached...which makes this a perfect option for a staycation. (just imagine--dinner, drinks, music, late night snacking, bedtime, breakfast. yes, it's a lot of food--but it's all in one location.) happy hour runs from three to six, but you can find fairly decent prices on their bar menu all night.

car window smashed while visiting doug fir. if you go to doug fir be ready for your car window to be smashed if you park within a block area. we went had a great time, when we parked we noticed glass around the areas where we parked (within a block) but parked anyway only to find our car window smashed. went back to let them know and the staff literally laughed in our face. is it worth going there ...i think not...take responsibility for your neighborhood and make it safe by patrolling the area and give it a presence.
