don's seafood

firstly i want to say i server austin was great!.. but however my party waited for two hours just for appetizers. then maybe another hour and a half for entrées that were served cold. we all were starving and disappointed, and the manager rene was horrible. he apologized for everything and stated we'd be discounted, then returned to say whatever we didn't pay our server austin would.. i can go on and on but rene was unprofessional, they kitchen sucked, everything was just bad. my firsttimeexperience on my bday was horrible 😫

no more. the food is okay, more than likely... it's frozen. i didn't mind going at first, but the lasttimei went the service was pretty bad. the waitress acted like she was not interested in serving us. two times we ended up getting up and leaving.

great exspereince. i love to go to restaurants and eat at the bar because its so much more personable. i love to have someone to talk to while i wait for my food and the best part is to watch the bartender make drinks its my own personal show!! i was there on a sunday morning about 2 weeks ago and i have never had a such a wonderful bartender!!!!!!!!!!!! i told her what kind of drink i was looking for and she knew right away what to make me and it was delicious. she was very friendly with everyone at the bar joking around laughing just a great personality. i ordered my food and it was ready in notimeand i didn't have to ask for a thing she knew exactly what i needed for my meal. i finished my lunch and she offered me desert and i was so full and she said are you sure because we have this awesome white choc bread pudding with a rum sauce. she sold me at awesome so i ordered it and well in her words it was so awesome!!!! if i lived here i would go there every sunday for lunch just to see her beautiful smile and watch her make drinks. so if you're taking a trip there go on a sunday morning and look for the girl with curly hair.

genuine lafayette .... ... because this place is owned (with some employee/partners) by the landrys, who are sort of the brennans of lafayette -- i say that because, many many restaurants have been opened in lafayette from former employees of the landrys.

the "hut" is owned by the generation of landrys after the founders of the original don's seafood in downtown lafayette. they are real cajuns who hunt and fish and two-step and all that --- aaaaaaaaeeeeee.

this is a straight ahead seafood restaurant and has always been strong on fried food. their gumbo is what people in lafayette call gumbo -- and not like the gravy that many people here call gumbo. (i don't think much of most of the gumbo you get in new orleans -- though i will eat it here).

since they have been in the seafood restaurant business many years, i trust their sources and it is one of the few places i will eat raw oysters. i agree that the char-broiled oysters are not very good -- there is only one serious place to get cb oysters.

... so if you want to go to lafayette and don't have thetime...
