dick's hideaway

this place looked trendy so i was worried it was going to be one of those pretentious restaurants dripping with cliches and more concerned with being original than being good. my fears were entirely unfounded. this is just danged good food and a good atmosphere.

from the bar, you can watch everything cooked in small batches. meat on a spit. a firebox in plain view. dozens of frying pans for made-to-order entrees.

i got the enchiladas with green chiles—the spicy ones. fantastic. my brother who works in a high-end meat shop was blown away by the quality of his steak. using themexicancoke and sprite with real sugar was a nice touch. a perfect “exhibit a” in the case against chain restaurants.

also, the place was filled with humorous signage—but not everywhere. just enough to add a dash of character.

dick's hideaway: a hidden gem in az. known for some of the best newmexicancuisine in the valley, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. this is a favorite spot for locals or guys like me looking for a fun and unique place to take friends and enjoy happy hour or for an evening out.

when entering dick’s hideaway, you know your in for a treat when you have to look for the door to get in. you must sit at the bar as it is an exhibition kitchen and you can watch the chefs prepare the food you order, super fun! with the specials and happy hour written on the walls and of course the "no kardashians allowed" sign, this place makes for a great hangout spot. go ahead and try the bathrooms, it's a fun experience all together just getting to them!

after being a weekly devoted patron for 30 years we are completely disappointed with our dinners tonight. the quality, quantity, presentation, taste and cost are no longer classic richardsons. the newmexicanplatter: take a food item away load it up with cheese and beans, put it on a massive platter and....no. it isn't worth it. our other meals were representative as well. hoping this changes or we will eat elsewhere. bummed.

don't expect chips-n-salsa. don't expect chips-n-salsa... dick's is not macayo's. the is a true gourmet newmexicanfood establishment. sip on a cold cocktail while you are waiting to be seated. relleno's stuffed with cheese and duck sound "quacky" but they were exquisite. the tenderloin on the skewers was tender, but the sausage lacked flavor. the beans, green and red chile sauces are perfect. the food is served right off the grill so the serving temperature is perfect.

best newmexicanfood in the valley. forget the wonderful, dark ambience, the comfortable bar stools, the wood and copper table tops, and the pleasant staff, you'll be given the choice "red or green" with every menu selection. wood fired grill is just a few feet from the bar, given the entire room a fragrance that can only be found with wood ovens.

food is excellent, plates are really hot, and the portions are way bigger than what you'd expect.

colorado traveler. experienced a wonderful relleno entree end of march as a first timer~ uniquely preparedmexicanfood like i've never witnessed anywhere else ~ worth the visit, expecially in the bar~ muchas gracias~~
