overall: the food was plentiful and tasty, excellentserviceand great little american diner. 5/5 despite issues due to excellent response and service.
food: american by name and american by nature. if you desire a solid portion size, you won't get much better or bigger than here. don't second guess why there's an obesity epidemic, just try any of the mains here. i ordered the trump burger so you can guess how loud and brash and unashamedly out there this was. i ordered bunless and was met with a huge bowl with two very large beef patties, egg, pickles, plenty of salad, kumara crisps and onion rings. i only just finished it.... given i ate 500g of steak the previous night, i'm no half weight at eating. wife ordered a salad and this was equally american in stature. everyone agreed that the food was good and more than adequate. also ordered the adult milkshakes which were divine. donkey punch was my choice and just delicious and seriously filling.
service: theservicewas excellent. sat quickly, menus provided and friendly attention. the entree was provided quickly but for some reason our sons meal wasn't forthcoming. turned out the kitchen thought they had made it but actually hadn't. the mains were bought out while the last bites of entree were still being chewed so a little bit early. biggest and sole issue was that a hair was on my wife's plate that wasn't hers. here's when things really showed excellent service. the waitress instantly apologised and asked did we want it replaced. we said no as it was on the side but she asked again to make sure. there was several checks during the lengthy eating to see how things were. at the time of paying, without anything being said, they provided our sons meal at no cost due to the confusion and half price wife's meal plus her cocktail free. beyond what i was expecting but an excellent response.
ambience: classic american diner decor including music. no air conditioning though which at 28 degrees makes for an uncomfortable dining experience. when we asked we were told that apparently some diners had complained the air conditioning was too cold and preferred the windows open instead. air conditioning is definitely needed and this is common thus far on our dining out in new plymouth.
