deacon's corner

this place used to be good, i don't know what the new owners are thinking. we waited 40 min for two breakfasts
and there were probably 10 people in the place. food arrived and it was cold. the portion size shrunk by half . they knew we were upset and they didn't even grat us anything. not going back ever, they lost my vote and they lost a customer. too bad

mexicano scrambles: 3 eggs scrambled w chorizo, pepper, onion, cheese & salsa w corn bread- 2

we took on a southern classic of chicken fried steak with eggs and a side bisquit and gravy. with 3 eggs and a huge portion of hashbrowns you are guaranteed not to go home hungry. the gravy was thick and full of flavor and the steak was not greasy. it’s no wonder people go there to recoup from the night before.

all in all, good diner food with great portion size. price isn’t the cheapest, but it’s definitely worth coming back/checking out! (c: check out their menu on their website!).

sunday brunch. arrived for brunch after 12:30 and we had a short wait about 10 minutes. the servers were busy and friendly enough. i ordered their chicken fried steak and my friend ordered their daily special of the broccoli scramble. my steak was awesome! it was served hot and the gravy was flavourful. it's definitely a big breakfast so you better have an appetite. my friend said the scramble was unimpressive, and bland. he discovered there was no cheese. after he notified he server she quickly fixed the problem. still, he said it was just average. the service is decent, food is terrific and it's a good place to people watch.

standard. best breakfast spot in gastown. friendly staff, big portions, proper breakfast fare -- grits, baked beans, waffles, etc. the coffee, casears and pie are on point too. i'm there at least once a week.

this one was at deacon's corner . this is a real diner with the chairs, decor and music. if you have not heard of it nor tried it, it is worth the trip the menu is larger than typical diners' menu with an all-day breakfast items; but alas, no milkshake. given my first breakfast was so light, i thought i better have a real breakfast now. healthy business breakfast part 2 - good old southern boy; eggs with house made chili and cheddar cheese, corn grits, bacon, hash brown and healthy whole wheat toast deacon's corner 101 main street vancouver, bc www.deaconscorner.ca  

the chicken was well-cooked and scrumptious as was the gravy covered biscuits. i was very satisfied with the food, company, and conversation at deacon's.

cold food. the place didn't seem very busy and my food came out cold, not sure if it was cook or server error. i had the carolina pancakes, the only high note was the pulled pork. i really hope they make it themselves.

hangover food. i like to come here with a brutal hangover, stuff my face full of greasy, delicious food and then go pass out again with a food coma. it's cheap, you get a lot, it's good and it's in the neighbourhood. what more do you people want??

going downhill.... i've been deacon's corner a number of times now, but my last visit was just horrible. we showed up at the end of the lunch rush, so there were plenty of spots available, but we weren't seated for 5-10 minutes. in fact only half the restaurant was full. no tables were cleaned up so we couldn't even seat ourselves. perhaps it was attributed to being understaffed, so i gave them the benefit of the doubt for that. but i didn't appreciate that we were left standing there for as long as we were.

unfortunately, the service didn't get much better after that. the server came by once to take our order, then once to collect our plates. we told him the type of eggs he wanted, but he said our order didn't come with eggs. 15 minutes later, he came back and said that our order did come with eggs. another 15 minutes later, he brought us order, and switched the egg orders around. the hashbrowns tasted "off", like it was heated up frozen shredded potatoes - gone stale. also the coffee is just plain awful, even for a diner.

maybe it was just a one off day. but in hind sight, i probably shouldn't have even left a tip, but i was in a hurry and didn't feel like explaining myself.

well oiled machine. they don't waste time here. the food is pretty simple and well priced. we came for breakfast. i had the mushroom swiss scramble with rye toast and hashbrowns while my friend had the french toast with sausage. my scramble was great with lots of cheese and the rye was also quite nice. the hashbrowns were a serious let down though as they had some odd mexican flavouring to them. at least the bottom was crispy. my friend's generously portioned french toast was pretty awesome looking and tasting. the sausage was garden variety frozen spicy sausage patty. the coffee was good, as was the service. i'd go back, especially at that price.

standard breakfast food in a great atmosphere! not the best food, but unique location and great atmosphere push this place into my "likes"

great food in a surprising place. hesitated first to open the door but to my surprise the place was bustling with a very hipster looking crowd so had to give it a try. i am a food junkie always looking for new places so didn't mind waiting for a table. ... must say they have their act together. pulled pork was really great... the best i ate in a long time. pancakes to die for.... a bit disappointed that they don't have shakes & pies. free flowing coffee was good not the real bitter types i have had at other diners.

decent food good service, quick, and cheap. worth a try on a lazy sunday.
