superb southern cooking. i recently visited this little place in what formerly the bosnmak deli's digs tucked in behind the borsolino cafe. it's jut off old bardstown road down from where it splits and crosses hike's lane. it's been redecorated inside in bold but pleasing colors. the seating is a mixture of standard and tall "bar height" tables. the service was fast, friendly and accommodating.
the food? excellent! my wife had the fried pork chops, greens and sweat potatoes. i had the fried chicken greens and cheesy potatoes. the pork was toothsome, tasty and of obvious good quality. the chicken was juicy and flavorful with a good crispy crust that was neither too thick, nor too thin. both are easily the best to be had in the area and far superior to anything from a chain chicken joint.
the sides were also pretty amazing. the greens were wonderful. and the sweet potato casserole was probably the best i've ever had anywhere. the only sort of disappointment was the potato casserole. it was very cheesy and obviously home made style, but thecheesesort of overwhelmed the potatoes. neither the wife or i cared too much for it. but everything else was good enough to lick you fingers or your plate.
on top of all that, prices are very reasonable. i would give this place two thumbs up and urge you to try it if you are in the mood for some quality southern comfort food.
addendum: i lately tried the fish sandwich, it's a nice big piece of fish and well prepared. easily the best fish you'll get for miles around. they have also added some new sides and main dishes as daily specials, if you call in for take out don't forget to ask what's on the chalk board!
yet another addendum: the fried mushrooms are made fresh and have to be tasted to be believed. they are easily the best i've ever had anywhere, and far better than their closest rival.
