mothers day brunch. i have to be honest, we did not enjoy our meal or stay at darryls on mother's day... i think they really tried to make everyone comfortable but the place is really too small for what they were trying to accomplish. they had way too many staffers which made it difficult to maneuver in the restaurant. lets start from the beginning, our reservation was delayed by 30-45 min, i believe they overbooked, but they did have problems with people leaving, they seem to linger way too long. this music was way too loud, they should have ordered a smaller band without drums, way too loud and you could not hear your family. the seating wasgoodbut a lady came in with her baby carriage and they really should say "no carriages", or they should have collapsed the carriage and brought out a baby seat. they kept running out of food and could not keep up with the demand - the sweet potatos was "soup" and the fried chicken was either "too" coated or "too hard and salty". the collard greens taste as if kale was added, when you have soul food, stay with the traditional recipe, try not to change them. the turkey or sliced chicken was way too white, not sure what happened there. the food seam to dry out in the containers/burners they were using. the martinis was way too expensive for 2 1/2 ounces, but they were good. all in all, we will never do this again, they don't have the space and they tried to cut corners and it was very noticeable, i.e. the dessert was "slithers" of cake and they used plastic wear for salad and dessert, no one told us where the salad and cake was, we just found it, it was in another room off to the side. the handsoap in the bathroom was watered down, made me nervous because the waiters used this bathroom

poor service. the food was very good, however, the server was slow and inattentive. two out of the three orders were incorrect. sweet potato fries were brought to the table when regular french fries were ordered and green beans were delivered to the table rather than collard greens that were ordered. the iced tea was watered down, therefore, flavorless and the sweet potato pie was heavy with ginger, which is not traditionally southern. the server lost/misplaced my debit card....i could see everyone looking for it. the check was brought to me and the host expected me to leave without my debit card. ten minutes later it was recovered and returned to me. i would return because the food wasgoodbut the service must improve to match the food and the decor.

wow! mediocre togoodfood- basic comfort food. nice vibe, but very loud - live music was amateur at best. manager refused to honor a valid groupon after admitting the mistake was groupon's mistake. so it was their contract! why not take it up w/ groupon? no way i would come back - they clearly have no regard for their patrons, and did nothing to build a relationship w/ me. i wasn't asking for anything i had not already paid for.

this is the first time my fiancee and i have been to darryl's since the conversion from bob's. the verdict? i am definitely impressed with the changes. it gives the feel of an urban chic cozy grotto in soho nyc. the professional and curteous hostess and door man is there to greet you for a night ofgoodfood, soothing music, eye catching decor, and this night patron's that delightfully belt out opera concertos to the applause of dining guest. the highlight of the new decor is the bar. it featured all the drinks i like, very comfortable seating, and eye catching earth tone tiles. the bartender that night was as pleasant as she was beautiful. the food was just as eye catching. the savory southern inspired menu was a welcomed distraction to my palette. we ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the spicy shrimp. some users have criticized the food blindly without pointing out the source of their discontent. my criticism is not at the flavor of the food, but at it's relative presentation. i believe that taste and flavor should be reflected in how it is presented. one example is the bulky roll of my sandwich. althought it was delicioius, the type of clientele that would make this criticism would likely be satisfied with artisan bulky rolls and fresh garnishments on sides. this minor criticism has more to due with the overall finishing touches on presentation that then the quality of the food. nonetheless, my sandwich was juicy, saucy and sweet. my favorite was the sweet potato fries. lastly, the in-house entertainment was a welcomed dining companion. the improve acoustics of the place should make this place, although cozy, a great place for small professionally managed house bands. great job to the owner of the establishment. i hope to enjoy darryl's for years (get a bigger tv only for days of major sporting events and you are not favorite neighborhood watering hole). bonne appetite!

good, but not what we expected.. i have to say the food wasn't bad. for starters we tried the catfish and crab cakes. the catfish disappointed, i felt as though i needed to continuously dip them to get any flavor. the crab cakes on the other hand were extremely tasty. perfectly seasoned with dipping sauce to compliment. i ordered the bubbly love cocktail, i love prosecco but they added just a tad too much grenadine and it was way too sweet. my second drink made up for it.
dinner was jambalaya for me and a burger for him. no complaints on the burger, it was gone before i knew it. the jambalaya was excellent...it wasnt too spicy and had a zest that kept me eating even after i was full. highly recommeneded.
what we didn't expect and what sort of placed a damper on the dinner was the tables were extremely close together. we basically ate with the couple next to us, so having a private conversation seemed to have to take a back seat for a little while. secondly was the band, they played great music however it was so super loud that conversation ceased until they took a break. thirdly, was the additional $6 we had to pay just to sit. along with the $6 the band came over asking for tips. i understand the concept behind the establishment but entering expecting a balance of entertainment,goodfood, drink, and being able to conversate with my date just didn't happen. i wont count this place out, i would just have to be in the mood for that type of experience.
