mothers day brunch. i have to be honest, we did not enjoy our meal or stay at darryls on mother's day... i think they really tried to make everyone comfortable but the place is really too small for what they were trying to accomplish. they had way too many staffers which made it difficult to maneuver in the restaurant. lets start from the beginning, our reservation was delayed by 30-45 min, i believe they overbooked, but they did have problems with people leaving, they seem to linger way too long. this music was way too loud, they should have ordered a smaller band without drums, way too loud and you could not hear your family. the seating was good but a lady came in with her baby carriage and they really should say "no carriages", or they should have collapsed the carriage and brought out a baby seat. they kept running out of food and could not keep up with the demand - the sweet potatos was "soup" and the fried chicken was either "too" coated or "too hard and salty". the collard greens taste as if kale was added, when you have soul food, stay with the traditional recipe, try not to change them. the turkey or sliced chicken was way too white, not sure what happened there. the food seam to dry out in the containers/burners they were using. the martinis was way too expensive for 2 1/2 ounces, but they were good. all in all, we will never do this again, they don't have the space and they tried to cut corners and it was very noticeable, i.e. the dessert was "slithers" of cake and they used plastic wear for salad and dessert, no one told us where the salad and cake was, we just found it, it was in another room off to the side. the handsoap in the bathroom was watered down, made me nervous because the waiters used this bathroom

they were pretty good; lovely battered crispiness, covered in a sweet, sticky, sour, spicy sauce and plump, juicy, chickeny meatiness on the inside.

darryl’s is known for its comfort food, live music, and lively bar atmosphere. their menu focuses on comfort food with southern flare. dishes like fish chowder, buttermilk fried chicken, and jambalaya make you feel like you’ve magically transported to the warm, sunny south. they also have live music which was the selling point for me.

poor service. the food was very good, however, the server was slow and inattentive. two out of the three orders were incorrect. sweet potato fries were brought to the table when regular french fries were ordered and green beans were delivered to the table rather than collard greens that were ordered. the iced tea was watered down, therefore, flavorless and the sweet potato pie was heavy with ginger, which is not traditionally southern. the server lost/misplaced my debit card....i could see everyone looking for it. the check was brought to me and the host expected me to leave without my debit card. ten minutes later it was recovered and returned to me. i would return because the food was good but the service must improve to match the food and the decor.

try all your ways avoiding this place!. we came to darryl's this morning for brunch, hoping to experience soul food and live music. and this place totally failed in all ways. we came in early without warm greeting and seated 10 minutes later than the time we made the reservation. the service was so slow that we need to remind our waiters several times for orange juice, the only thing served by the waiter, and is not included in the brunch pricing. the food is salty and unhealthy, not worth the price. the music is ok but it is too loud for this small space that my parents ran out of the place immediately after they barely finished to avoid the noise. the worst part came to the end. the check came back with a total of 95.80(4 adults)+16.95(miscellaneous food)+18.00(6 oj)+9.15(tax)+25.18(grat 18!)=165.08. the 16.95 is said to be charged for my 2 years old boy who had several bites of cake and black beans. after i told the waiter that it shows on their online menu children under 5 are free, he removed it. but what will happen if i didn't check the menu online before? they didn't give us a menu at all. 18% mandatory tip for brunch is considered to be very rude in my point of view. the waiter's explanation is simply that it is mandatory for brunch. there is no sign mentioning it at all in the restaurant. after i pulled out the groupon, the waiter said it can only be used for dinner. i checked the fine prints carefully, there was no such thing stated on it. in fact, before i buy this groupon, there was a link in the groupon showing the menu of darryl's, which including brunch. that's why i bought it. you can still check the ad at this address: http://www.groupon.com/d.... the link for menu: http://www.darrylscorner.... i asked for the manager, she came and just said, no, you can not use it, you can only use it for dinner. after i explained her there is nothing mentioned on the fine prints, she admitted it but said, no, you can not use it because i said so. if you have any problem, you can talk with groupon. during the whole process, the manager showed no smile and i felt not respected. be careful!! if you come in with a groupon at dinner time, they may simply say you can only use it during brunch, because they said so. the worst experience in a restaurant ever.

wow! mediocre to good food- basic comfort food. nice vibe, but very loud - live music was amateur at best. manager refused to honor a valid groupon after admitting the mistake was groupon's mistake. so it was their contract! why not take it up w/ groupon? no way i would come back - they clearly have no regard for their patrons, and did nothing to build a relationship w/ me. i wasn't asking for anything i had not already paid for.

i had a little deja vous when i walked into darryl’s corner kitchen. it didn’t even occur to me (until we got there) that i had been here years ago, with the same friend, when it used to be bob the chef’s. i had a ruelala coupon that was $40 towards food and non alcoholic beverages-and we decided that we would go for the sunday jazz brunch. they have changed the place around-there is better seating and the bar in the back is kind of retro (it reminds me of the bar at this chinese restaurant we used to go to years ago). we got a great table, right next to the band – the ellen o’brien quartet had the floor that day. ellen has an amazing voice-she was able to engage the crowd as opposed to just being background noise. the service was attentive in the beginning and tapered off towards the end (when we went to pay the bill, our waiter was no where to be found). i had the north carolina style pulled pork sandwich ($12) shown above. the pork was so tender and the sauce had just the right amou

an institution. i've been going to this place since it was the original bob the chef's back in the mid 1990s. it has consistently delivered an authentic experience for anyone with a passion for music and for food. this week i was privileged to visit twice, once for dinner and once for their legendary sunday jazz brunch. both experiences were, if anything, better than ever. our dinner started at the quiet bar with two astonishingly fresh and creative cocktails - including an old fashioned made with a small batch kentucky bourbon called bulleitt which may unseat my previous favorite of knob creek. i accompanied this with a platter of the most delicious chilled wellfleet oysters, plump and sweet and served with a tart mignonette and freshly grated horseradish, only a buck apiece. our dinner continued at a quiet table with some moist and mild catfish fingers with a dill remoulade. this was followed by their signature broasted chicken and very tasty mac & cheese.

our visit to the brunch buffet was equally appealing - granted the space is small and the jazz music fills the room rendering conversation impossible, but still enjoyable nonetheless. of all the different options on the buffet, my favorites were the bbq beef ribs which were tender and very meaty, and the collard greens which were just right especially when splashed with some frank's hot sauce! our party of six loved the experience and our youngest went up to the buffet four times.

service on both occasions was warm and friendly - and i look forward to many future visits especially with friends visiting boston and looking for a unique experience.

the service at darryl’s was so friendly and warm; they were busy, and our server had most of the room. she totally took it in stride, smiled the whole time, apologized for any wait, which wasn’t long, and just made the experience fun.

if you are looking for a brunch spot that is quiet and laid back, go somewhere else. we arrived 22 minutes before our reservation, but somehow they found us a table in the maze of people. they really cram you in. the music is loud, but we knew that going in. jus a few observations, nothing that we had a problem with. i started off the day with a bloody mary and ashley had a mimosa.

a few years ago, i had a cocktail party at the stork club, which is now darry's corner bar and kitchen. darryl's corner bar has had many other identities. the location used to be circles, which used to be bob the chef's. each location had iterations of live jazz, southern food or cocktails. darryl is the founder of the beantown jazz fest and co-founder of the beehive and i believe has made the best version of the past reincarnations. there are few dinner places which has live jazz, so to enjoy southern food and cocktails is a treat. there is a $3 cover charge per person added to the check when a diner is present during the live jazz entertainment. the space is clean, open and next to the bar is a small area for jazz performers. on sunday's, between 10am until 3pm and at the price of $21.95 each person, darryl's brunch includes grits, waffles, turkey bacon, links, ham, fried chicken, ribs, rice and beans, mac and cheese and collard greens. alot of these sides are on the dinner menu. mac

...live jazz music is really impressive and completely fills the restaurant for everyone's enjoyment. one thing to note, though: if you get a table during peak time (thursday through saturday after 7:00pm) you automatically get charged $3 per person as a cover charge for the entertainment. it's worth the extra cost, but be warned! we were seated straight away at a bit of an awkward table - we were sandwiched between two other two-tops and there was no way to get out on either side w
