a big mac by any other name.... if i'm going to be the self-proclaimed burger afficiando that i am, then i need to heed to anybody i hear giving me their #1 pick of a burger joint in the springs. so the other day during a conversation with a coworker, he let me know that his favorite place for a burger was cy's. i looked it up and decided to test it out.

cy's was every bit the greasy spoon other reviewers say it is. initial impressions upon entering: lots of families with kids! as one family would leave, another would come in. seems strange, but hey, whatever it takes to feed your kids, right? another impression, the two girls behind the counter might want to reconsider their wardrobe. one was wearing a blue jean skirt that looked like it fit her waist 2 years ago. but now that it couldn't go over her waist, it was pushed dangerously down too far. she had a permanent "inner tube" of flesh showing between her short shirt and the top of her skirt. and for the record, it wasn't a pretty sight. the other girl was talking to her about being pregnant and not wanting to spend $20 on a belly band yet. but her outfit was almost doing the same thing.

okay, so anyway, getting past that point, i stepped up to order and was led through the menu. i decided to stick with the most popular burger, fries and shake that i've heard everyone talking about. so an alaska burger w/ buffalo fries and peanutbuttershake were my choices.

i'll say it up front so you can stop reading my review if you want, but cy's is perfectly average food, there is not a hint of anything outstanding in what i ate. yes, the peanutbuttermilkshake was made with real peanutbutterright in front of me, but that didn't make it outstanding. it just made it a regular vanilla shake that had peanutbutterin it. sorry, but if i want a shake worthy of raves, i'll go to crave real burgers and get the elvis with pecans and prailenes ice cream mixed with peanut butter, chocolate chips, a banana and bacon. that's a shake worthy of reviews.

the burger was secretly one of the most disappointing parts of the meal. yeah, i read the ingredients beforehand and i thought to myself "hmm...sounds like a big mac?" so when it was set down in front of me, i was not surprised at all. a quick glance at the picture i posted up and you'll see two patties that left maybe a 1/2" between the burger and the edge of the bun. as for the patties? they actually appeared to be perfectly shaped circles. this surprises me because of all the ranting and raving people have done about their callicrate hormone-free beef. i'm not a fancy-pants, but if you have this out-of-this-world-beef, then why not free form the patties, which would make them maybe reach the edge of the bun while maybe being just a smidge thinner? that would be the better approach in my opinion. as far as toppings went, cheese on the burger, liberal amounts of shredded lettuce and some thousand island dressing was all that completed this burger. this was also a letdown. mcdonalds does not rest on their laurels to let that stand. their "special sauce" has something more in it and they put pickles on it too. i didn't detect pickles on this burger. the bun was also unoriginal. i don't know if the top and bottom bun were toasted either? but it started to fall apart on me towards the end.

the buffalo fries were "okay." they were just potatoes cut into circles, then fried and sprinkles with a buffalo seasoning. they were also served with a one size too small ranch dressing cup. i had to resort to ketchup when i ran out.

so to anyone that may think i'm badmouthing cy's, i'm not. i commend them for their food and prices (my meal was $10.40) and i'm certainly not recommending you eat at a mcdonalds over this place, but if you do eat the occasional fast food chain and supplement some special occasions with an unordinary burger place to change the pace, might i recommend crave or even five guys be your choice?
