turkeyhunter. this is a location where we eat at least twice each week. it is a favorite of the office staff for birthdays and occasionally when we just want to show them our appreciation. as i perused the reviews here, i wonder if some of these folks are eating at the same place that i do, or if they are simply competitors, or just unfamiliar with greek foods. here is the worst thing about city cafe diner: the menu is extensive and it can take sometimeto review, however, i have never eaten a bad meal at the place and the portions are exceptional, always a "to-go box. they have a surf & turf on the dinner menu with a potato and grilled vegetables, substantial steak with a half dozen shrimp. lunch and dinner are exceptional for the price. i would judge the burgers as above average as i would the breakfast. the desserts are "expensive" but three can dine off one serving. i saw the remark about the dinner bread which is served upon arrival being "undone" - the restaurant is owned by a greek family and i believe the bread is referred to as challa bread, however, it is not woven, but is of decadent variety with a cream cheese center which is what evidently caused the customer to believe it was not properly cooked, however, the sweetness of the bread from the sugars and honey should have tipped them off.

city cafe diner gets an f for cleanliness. went to café diner 2nd trip. had a semi pleasant dining experience the first visit after waiting awhile for meal the waiter made up by being attentive. 2nd visit rolls were underdone in the center, pure dough unbaked. when it cametimeto leave my6 yr daughter opened her to go cup she had been drinking from to get some pepsi to go and to our horror the cup had brown sticky looking gunk smeared all over it which she did not see when they first brought it due to the pepsi filling the cup and a lid being on the cup. when i brought it to the attention of the waitress and asked to see the supervisor he was very defensive and tried to take the cup to throw it away. i literally had to take the cup out of his hand and let him know the health dept. would be informed. it took every ounce of my being not to throw up all over the table. not even an apology!

excellent place to eat. my husband had eaten here before and this was my firsttimeto visit the city cafe in huntsville. i ordered the french dip and fries. my husband ordered the 3-way: shrimp, bbq and pork chop. our order was to our table very quick and the food was hot and very delicious. the amount of food we received was more than either one of us could eat. our waitress, mary, was very friendly and answered any questions we had about the menu. she continually checked on us making sure we had eveything we needed. i like the fact that the menu is loaded with choices of food. it offers a wide variety of soups and salads, burgers, steak, fish, shrimp, pasta dishes, greek dishes and more. the dessert selection was unique with a wide variety to choose from. this way anyone can find some kind of dessert to suit their taste.
also, the temperature in the restaurant was very pleasant. i usually have to wear a jacket in most restaurants because it is too cold inside. this was good since i didn't have to shiver while finishing my meal. i was very satisfied with my first visit. this is definately a place we will visit more often now.
every restaurant is going to have some bad reviews but the only way to find out for yourself is to go there and try it.

breakfast: below average at best. this is the first(also likely last)timei have eaten here. i had not read or heard anything about it just wanted a diner style breakfast and blue plate is always busy saturday morning. first let me say it was crowded but we were able to sit right away, the staff were friendly so issues what soever with that. the place seemed clean, so no issues there as well. the menu seems to have 1000 items on it, but again we came here for breakfast. i had a large ultimate breakfast and everything was average or below on taste. the bacon was quite bad, tasted like cardboard(very cheap kind for sure). the sausage was above average however. i hate places that use supercheap condiments, like the worst cheapest syrup they could get and the ultracheap margerine packs, and this is one of those places. for 2 adults, 2 kids it was 48 bucks before tip and it seems a bit overpriced for sure. i could have eaten craker barrel and as cheap or cheaper and better to be honest. again the staff were great, maybe the lunch or dinner would be better but i wish i had read reviews before eating here. from what it seems this place is known for large portions on lunch and dinner and mediocre food at best.

fyi they brought one order of toast, since thats all we wanted. how can you mess that up, it had to be that really cheap terrible bread with some horrible margerine because it was bad. my 8 year old said she could not even eat it and when i tried it really was terrible.

very disappointed. we ate there once and it was great. the secondtimewe went we walked to the dessert bar. we waited and waited for the girl behind the counter to ask us if she could help us. an african american couple walked in the door and she ask them first. the nice lady stated that we were there first. she grudgingly took our order then took the other ladies. then, she still gave them their order first. we will absolutely never eat there for any reason.

good food...overwhelming menu!. after some friends told me of their recent visits to city cafe and the extremely diverse menu, my wife and i had to try it out first hand. upon arrival, we were seated promptly and our waitress (shamir) was quite attentive and more than happy to help us navigate the menu. it was indeed very expansive and diverse. while we carefully studied it, shamir brought out a large sweet bread with butter and some spanakopita (spinach pies), standard pre dinner items that were appreciated. my wife and i finally decided on a greek dish called "pastichio", which is a greek version of lasagna and the "odd couple", which consisted of a sirloin steak and stuffed tilapia. surprisingly, with those two platters, you also received a cup of soup and a salad. the soup, a greek lemon chicken soup, was incredibly delicious with a robust lemony taste. both entrees were served on large metal platters with healthy portions of greek potatoes, rice and vegetables. the steak was cooked perfectly and the stuffed tilapia was very flavorful and moist. my wife was also very pleased with the pastichio, which she has had on previous occasions at other restaurants in boston. we were so full after the main meal that we didn't even take a second look at their vast desert bar, but plan to on our next visit. the prices were a little higher than normal diners, however, as many other reviewers have indicated, there's enough food for left overs the next day and perhaps the day after. we both really enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere, which is very kid friendly. i will say that their breakfasts look terrific and is on my radar for our next visit. overall, a very good restaurant with so much to offer that it could be sometimebefore you run out of things to order here.

good food and lots of choices. food was super. desserts were so good. this was my husband's second visit. he went for breakfast the firsttimeand said the french toast was excellent. my spanikopita this trip was so good. it was light and buttery and was seasoned so perfectly. i could not have asked for better. my daughter got a chicken dish stuffed with crab meat and topped with asparagus (kind of like chicken oscar but had a different name). it was perfectly cooked. vegetables were delicious and not overcooked at all. soup was good and bread was great. we enjoyed it quite a bit. prices were a little high but when you get enough food to bring home and have a full meal later, it is worth it.

awful awful awful. ate breakfast here. had philly cheese omelet. awful, awful, awful. omelet so overlooked and scorched could not eat it. it should have never made it to our table. not going back. waitress was nice but she never checked on us after we placed our order. we had to ask for her. it took quite a longtimeto get breakfast. there were three other tables waiting. waitress was too busy talking to a couple she obviously knew.

don't waste yourtimeor your money... food was ok (nowhere near great), but the kitchen sent out food that wasn't as described on menu. my wife's lunch was sent back twice. 3rdtimeshe just got it to go. we also watched two waitresses curse at each other (this really happened). three burger plates and one quesadilla plate cost us $62 out-the-door. we will not be going back under any circumstances.

why advertise yourself as a 24 hour diner...when your door is locked after midnight. twice this week i have been there after midnight (i work nights) and eachtimethe door is locked....but there are at least 4 signs on the front of the building that proclaim...open 24 hours!!! please either correct your signs or live up to your advertisement!!!
