really bad experience - won't be back. visited this morning at 6:00 am. no coffee made (or decafe), slow service. i had eaten breakfast during the week, but entirely different menu on weekend.
finally got coffee 25 minutes after arrival for our group of 5 people. then ordered food. when food finally arrived (we were the only customers in the restaurant), my bacon was burnt to a chrisp and my eggs overcooked. another individual could not eat potatoes (burnt on one side, raw on the other), and another who ordered eggs benedict, could not eat at all and sent it back to be redone (bread not toasted, ham not even heated). as a group we eat breakfast every sat am at 6:00 am at different restaurants in huntsville...we tried this one when they first opened and were disappointed, and after this visit......we won't be back.

we really enjoy the city cafe diner... the location is convenient; the service was great; our food (ms. marcia had the turkey dinner special and i had chicken pot pie) was prepared very well, it was well presented and served hot, good size portions, and the taste was great. and yes, we stopped at the dessert cases and picked some to take home for later!

one of my favorite places to go. i have friends that have never been there and they say they won't go because they have "too much" on their menu... i understand that. but everything i've ever gotten there has been delicious. my favorite thing to get there is the chicken caesar wrap with texas potatoes 😋

have been here a number of times. we joke about the name, and i think it hurts the restaurant's curbside appeal. that said, i've ordered a number of things, and all have been good. we are especially fond of the french toast. the staff has always been great.

crabbyartist. the bad reviews i've read really surprise me. (maybe they're from another restaurant?) we have been there several times & it has always been great. we have ordered something different each time...again great. my husband was a chef at some upscale & some not so upscale restaurants, and he also loves this place. i think as far as attitude it was even better. we spoke to the waitress & the manager & let them know how pleased we were. the service was great, the food came out in a timely manner & was presented well. the cleanliness was sparkling & the large display case was in impectable condition. the waitresses were dressed well and we're tidy about themselves. i honestly dong understand why there are anything less than excellent reviews. maybe competition? as for thr desserts - nobody is forcing them on you. if you want ambience, then go to an upscale restaurant & pay an upscale price!
as for us...we'll be returning!

turkeyhunter. this is a location where we eat at least twice each week. it is a favorite of the office staff for birthdays and occasionally when we just want to show them our appreciation. as i perused the reviews here, i wonder if some of these folks are eating at the same place that i do, or if they are simply competitors, or just unfamiliar with greek foods. here is the worst thing about city cafe diner: the menu is extensive and it can take some time to review, however, i have never eaten a bad meal at the place and the portions are exceptional, always a "to-go box. they have a surf & turf on the dinner menu with a potato and grilled vegetables, substantial steak with a half dozen shrimp. lunch and dinner are exceptional for the price. i would judge the burgers as above average as i would the breakfast. the desserts are "expensive" but three can dine off one serving. i saw the remark about the dinner bread which is served upon arrival being "undone" - the restaurant is owned by a greek family and i believe the bread is referred to as challa bread, however, it is not woven, but is of decadent variety with a cream cheese center which is what evidently caused the customer to believe it was not properly cooked, however, the sweetness of the bread from the sugars and honey should have tipped them off.

i've seen a lot of good reviews and been told by countless people to come and try city cafe diner. going in, i have been told they have a large menu, large portions, and a friendly front of house. one thing lacking in all of those reviews was how it stands up to the test of healthy eating, so here we are. the first thing you notice when you walk in is a huge glass display of all of their desserts. from cakes, pies, cookies, and baklava, they have everything you can dream of if you have a sweet tooth. this of course is a dangerous first impression for those on a diet, but you may not be able to resist, so you'll probably want to start thinking about sharing a slice. as far as the menu goes, it is pretty extensive with a wide selection of both american and greek dishes with over 5 pages of choices. looking through all the pages though, it was quick to notice that there was a lack of vegetarian options. there are a few choices scattered here and there such as a veggie pita sandwich and so

ew eww ewww. okay so my family and i recently visited the city café diner and man was it horrible. the first thing i noticed was the door. it was disgusting with chipped paint and it just looked unsanitary. next we walked in and i saw that the counter where the cakes were being displayed was falling apart on the inside. the lighting for the display case was falling down into the cakes. and the cake labels were made from scratch sheets of paper where someone wrote the name in sharpie? how unprofessional. scrap paper? really?

then we were seated and it was freezing! and the menus were disgusting! we received our drinks and the glasses were filthy. with our drinks we were served loaves of bread that were black and cold (visibly not fresh) the butter that was served with it was sticky as if it were left over from breakfast.

upon asking our waitress for fresh bread she offered to microwave it, stating that's all she could do.

we got our meals two burgers and two pasta dishes. on one of the burgers there was what appeared to be a scab on the bun and the fries were dark brown.
with the pasta dishes the sauce for the pasta was clumpy and there were different types of noodles in the dish. (fettuccini noodles in the spaghetti)

while we were eating we experienced a lot of things such as a dirty ketchup bottle and a server washing tables with dirty water (when she squeezed the water out of the towel it was black -_-)

all and all this place was terrible and should be closed down!!! nothing we ordered appeared to be fresh.

we walked in and saw a case filled with desserts...it was looking promising, but i was still a little skeptical. do they make these desserts here or do they come premade?

i hate it there the only reason the servers are still there is bc we love our customers every cook is hispanic and the mangers look down upon us as if we are nothing we are constantly asked if we are stupid or if we have common sense. we work every holiday and dont even get a card a meal discount not even a thank you but we are told you dont show up youre suspended hell we dont even get lunch breaks but in the past pay was taken out of our checks we even got paid cash for a while. and have u ever seen an american in charge no they bring people from atlanta instead of letting us advance basically the staff is nothing more than peasants in there eyes
