thechicagodiner is an entirely vegetarian (and very, very vegan-friendly) restaurant in chicago’s lake view district. i ordered the radical reuben at the encouragement of my friend, who introduced me to this wonderful establishment, and i was not disappointed. it was delicious. if i could, i would return tochicagoand eat the same sandwich all over again!

highlight of my trip!. unknowingly, i stayed at a hotel within walking distance of thechicagodiner. i had read about this diner on the internet. upon checking in to the hotel, i was over the moon to discover i was only a few blocks away. i dragged my friend (he really had no choice) to c.d. for dinner.

a reuban sandwich and carrot cake later.....i was in heaven. my friend who is not vegan had the exact same thing as i and remarked that it was fantastic and wanted to know what they used for "meat".

i will return to this fun neighborhood and stay just so that i may eat here again!!!

please, please, please come to minneapolis!!

thechicagodiner is a vegan food heaven! completely meat free since 1983. we tried their spicy crispy chick’n burger and it was phenomenal.. one of the tastiest vegan burgers we’ve had.
spicy breaded vegan chicken seitan (vegan meat analogue made from wheat gluten which is extremely rich in protein), lettuce, tomato, cucumber and onion on a wheat bun with ranch and waffle fries on the side. it was very filling and satisfying. the waffle fries with cajun seasoning were to die for!

well they turned a skeptic into a believer. for vegetarians and vegans this place is a must eat. for everyone else, this place is no joke. you may not get real meat or dairy products, but the fantastic preparation carries their food. as someone who'd never had seitan before, i'm glad this is where i got to try it. i'm giving thechicagodiner 4 out of 5 pearls.

a friend of mine and i have been doing road trips recently, and we went to chicago. we stopped for two days so we could relax and explore the city. my friend is a vegetarian and we had heard great things about thechicagodiner so we stopped in. it was a very cool place, and it was very modernly decorated. i must admit, i was dreading coming here because i am not a vegetarian. i usually eat meat with my meals. after looking over the menu, we both ordered. i got a version of their burger, my friend got a vegan shake. i took a bite of my burger and i was completely amazed! it had so much flavor. it didn't taste like a true burger, like i wanted, but it still had great flavor. the salad that came with was so good too. my mood instantly perked up after i took a bite, because the food was that good! next time i'm in chicago, i'm going back there, hands down the next time i am in chicago. it's delicious!f

if you are vegan but want to taste how chicken and beef taste like? then this place is the one you should go to. thechicagodinner serves pure vegan food but they are named after a non veg dish to which they taste very similar

eg: spicy crispy chicken burger is actually a veg burger with similar tasting ingredients to its alias.

food

chicken crispy burger
i am a non vegetarian but this burger tasted way too similar to the actual non vegetarian version of it. this infact is a really good thing for those veg people out there who want to taste how the chicken tastes like.
the bun was smooth and had sesame seeds on them and the burger comes with any 1 sliders of your choice such as:- sweet potato fries, mac and cheese and waffle fries.

the titanic blt burger
quite huge and filing and really worth every dollar you pay for it. the party was fat and crispy you could literally feel the burger sinking in your stomach.

portabella prime
this burger was the best. the different thing about this is that the bun was rectangular and was more like a thin bread pakora with thin layers of mushroom inside it and with a lot of veggies.
a must try if you love mushrooms.

vegan shakes
choco chip cookie dough-
the best choco chip shake i have ever had. it was thick and smooth, huge and full of crushed choco chip cookie pieces.
a must try

french vanilla
decent vanilla flavor, pretty good and worth the price

monthly special shake (limited edition)
sea salt caramel shake
it was way to salty for my taste buds and i know my taste buds are perfect. infact at one point i got irritated with the salty taste that i left half the shake unattended.
the shakes are pretty large and tough for one single person to finish.

this place is a must try if you ever visit chicago, illinois

posted on september 22, 2013 by the lu life we wanted to get together with some of our friends who are vegetarian so we decided on thechicagodiner , which is rated as one of the best vegetarian/vegan restaurant inchicagoby a number of magazines.  and after going, this place changed my mind about meatless food (don’t get me wrong though, i’d still go for a rack of lamb any day). according to past reviews, you should not pass up the shakes, and i’m glad i didn’t.  the vanilla chai shake was a refreshingly rich but fluffy drink that allows room for the actual dinner (note: you’ll want the large). poutine – canadian style waffle fries topped with melted teese vegan cheese, country gravy, green onions, bacun, sour craem and jalapeno to share, the poutine is the perfect appetizer.  and boy was i surprised!  i love my poutines and was very skeptical about this vegetarian version at first, but after my first bite, i changed my mind.  all the savory flavors were there with an added kick fro

oh thechicagodiner ... i have heard such great things from all over the internet. i am happy to report it didn't disappoint! choosing restaurants to eat at for your birthday is an important decision, and this was a very very right one. the atmosphere is very funky-alternative-hipster set in an old diner-style building with tables, chairs, and decor to match (the diner part, not the funky-alt-hip part). a very interesting mix indeed. i started off with a mimosa, then ordered a crazy combo of items for my brunch: cinnamon roll, mac & teese, potato hash, tofu scrambled "eggs," and wheat toast with jam. me & my birthday mimosa!  by far the very best thing was the cinnamon roll (which of course i have no picture of). it looked very average and i was ready to be a little bit disappointed, then i tasted it. it was so good! the mimosa was fabulous and the tofu eggs and potato hash were salty and very well flavored. my only complaint was that the tofu eggs were a little dry as if they had bee

overall, this meat lover was glad to try a restaurant outside of her comfort zone. i really enjoyed the friendly neighborhood feel of the diner, and the no-frills atmosphere. next time around, i'll be sure to test out a different vegan shake flavor, and will probably stay away from the seitan :). vegetarians, vegans, and carnivores alike will love thechicagodiner's vast menu, outstanding staff, and wholesome options.

enter the headquarters for foodie vegetarians everywhere, thechicagodiner, which has been serving all vegetarian cuisine since 1983 in the form of familiar, comforting diner favorites like chicken fried steak and nachos. many a meat eater has been converted on these holy grounds, and brandy, a lover of most meats, decided it was time to brave the tofu, the seitan, and the textured vegetable protein to discover the truth about this lakeview staple.

bestchicagoexperience. i'm not a vegetarian though i wouldn't mind being one, but man the food was amaaaazing at thechicagodiner. great selection to choose from and believe you wouldn't miss meat as soon as you had your first bite. awesome experience because the food, the ambiance, the fact that it's by wrigley's, and definitely the staff--very chill and very friendly/helpful.

love. went tochicagodiner last week on a visit tochicagoand i was blown away by how fantastic the "meat"loaf i had was. i was a million times better than anything i had eaten before i was a vegetarian and will probably be one of the best things i've eaten for a while.
my only issues with this place was how long the wait was. it felt like it was taking forever to get seated. and then when we were seated i felt like we were being rushed since they were so busy. however, the waiting area was heated and had magazines to read and the food more than made up for the craziness of the dinner rush.

the diner experience....no meat involved.. i had heard rave reviews from friends about the food atchicagodiner, and since i live in an area where vegan food is at a minimum, i was intrigued to try. boy was i glad i did! dinner started with lentil cakes, which are like crab cakes and vegan mozzarella sticks which were amazing. i had country fried "steak", mashed potatoes, vegan milkshake and vegan cheesecake--all which were to die for. even my meat-eating husband loved the food here. definitely worth a try even if you eat meat!

the best vegetarian eatery i've ever been to.. this past thanksgiving holiday, i visited my family inchicago-- i'm from florida. i looked up this place and went with my father.

the vibe of the place is great -- a very hip diner atmosphere and all of the staff were very friendly and not pretentious at all. i loved the lighting in there and how there was a diverse range of people in the diner. sadly, at other vegetarian places, i've noticed that the clientele can be of one type -- snobbish and uninviting.

the menu was amazing. they have a huge selection and i've never known another restaurant other than this one to have a vegan reuben sandwich! i ordered this, and it was insanely delicious.

my dad, who is a meat eater, ordered the vegetarian philly cheese steak. this was his first vegetarian meal, and he was extremely impressed.

thechicagodiner's menu pleases everyone. they have the best selection of vegetarian and vegan food i have ever seen at a restaurant.

if i lived in chicago, i'd eat at this place every week...it's that good.

i felt right at home. the beer selection is very good too -- a huge plus!

i ended up buying achicagodiner shirt. i'm now a huge fan!

i wish that there was place in florida even remotely likechicagodiner.

chicago diner does it right.

highly recommended!
