chart house chain saw massacre. was a big fan of the chart house in southern ca on the pacific coast highway back in the 80's and 90's. now owned by landry's, this venue in daytona was a poor imitation of the chart a house i remember.
the signature saladbarwas still great but that wasn't enough to make up for the poor service and the poor quality food.
everything is a la carte- saladbar$8.50 ;baked potato over $3 dollars and tasted like it was warmed over in the microwave- kind of like how your leftovers taste when you nuke them the next day. now onto the petit filet - $33 and stringy. this ain't no prime beef for that price- that's for sure.
went on a tuesday; many empty tables but not enough waiters so we had to wait past our reservation time.bill for two was over $150 (two drinks, one dessert , and tip).

key lime pie. oh boy. this is one big slice, topped off with whipped cream and settled in graham crust. this is klp like my wife tried to make.

alaskan king crab. many legs and claws, more plentiful than most restaurants serve in a serving. the meat is done just right, not mushy and over done, and not raw. the meat with drawn butter is something like maine lobster, but less sweet, which is to my liking as i'm not into sweet things.

again, consistently excellent. we are locals (sort of) as we own a vacation spot we can actually see as part of the view from chart house. over the 15 years we've had the place in monterey, we've come to rely on the chart house as an upscale restaurant that exceeds the average in every way. it has become our major site for celebrating special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and such with family and friends.

this occasion was for my wife's birthday. she had the coconut shrimp. and there came a series of oo ah yum...as she dug into each moist, properly cooked morsel. my daughter in law and i had the alaska king crab. it was her first as she normally gets dungeness crab being from the san francisco area. in the end, she has converted to the king, long live the king. the grandsons did in a bowl each of the clam chowder, which they claimed was "exceptional." the oldest had the talapia. but he woofed it down so fast i'm not clear he actually tasted it. and then they then topped off with the lava cake that melted in their respective mouths. i thought the youngest was about the lick the plate, but he resisted.

the service was excellent. our waitress was always attentive and when thebargot backed up with orders, she came and explained why the delay. the ch was crowded to the hilt because the pebble beach pro-am was ongoing this weekend. and that was the only detraction...the noise level was higher than expected and more than experienced on past occasions.

the prices are high but the food, service, view, and ambiance add up to being worth it...especially for special occasions with best friends and/or family.

worst experience ever!. we just got home from the happy hour at the chart house and it was a major disappointment. we live at the national harbor, md and take the ferry over to the chart house for dinner at least twice a month because the food is really delicious. however, we tried the happy hour this time and could not believe the service, the attitude of the bartenders and the manager on duty. things started out great, like in the dining room or on the deck, but then when we ordered our 2nd round of drinks we had problems. my husband had no issue with his beer, but my gingerita was nothing like the first. i mean it didn't even look the same as the first one that i received. there should be a specific recipe that can be easily replicated so customers get the same drink regardless of which bartender makes it. when i sent the drink back the bartender, a loud blond female of about 48, told my waiter, who was in training, to go back and tell me there was nothing wrong with the cocktail and he then asked me what i thought it was missing. when i told him i wasn't sure, he went back to thebarand brought me back the same drink. when i asked him if that was the same cocktail i sent back, the waiter told me that it was. i asked to speak to the manager, and we sat and waited..and waited for him but he never came over. instead, he sent our waiter back over to ask if we wanted our appetizers to go! we were appalled at not only the behavior of thebarstaff, but the manager on duty's behavior was reprehensible! that person either has no understanding of what excellent customer service is or doesn't care. either way, we were disgusted at that point and asked for our check. when the waiter bought it over, it included the cost of the cocktail that i sent back, so i sent for the manager on duty again and again he refused to come over. instead, he sent the check and our boxed up appetizers over via another server, a female blond server training our waiter. the bill still included the 2nd gingerita we sent back, so we asked for the manager on duty again. our waiter came over and by this time i had the opportunity to look in our bag and saw the most despicable boxes. whoever boxed our appetizers had a lot of some kind of red sauce on their hands, which was all over our boxes. it was clear to us that the staff and manager was sending us a message that we were no longer welcome. we've been frequenting this restaurant since we moved to the national harbor in 2010 and have never been treated this way, ever. i don't know whether there has been a management/ownership change or what, but it's clear to me and my husband that the chart house management and staff doesn't understand that in a time when restaurants are closing or fighting over customers you have to treat all of them with the utmost courtesy and respect. this was a small issues that was poorly handled by every employee from management on down. the manager could have handled this easily and made our evening enjoyable, but he chose to make a bad decision by thebarstaff worse, which has cost him customers. we have a lot of wonderful choices at the national harbor and throughout the washington dc area for dining. we will be frequenting them instead from now on.

disappointed. i went to chart house last evening for the first time in a year or so. i was most disappointed. i had the saladbaras a entree. most everything on the saladbarwas dried up and needed to be replaced. the red onions were literally dried rings. the carrots had white edges from being out too long. the tomato salad mix was rotten. the selection was very minimal for the price being charged. the only plus was the caviar which was delicious, however i had to request that it be replenished. i found the prices to be pricey for the quality of the food.

wonderful date night. hubby and i had an amazing experience on our last night in daytona. the hostess dropped the ball so our wait was longer than anticipated, even with reservation... but we enjoyed a drink from thebarwhile we waited. the waiter we had read phenomenal. the food was excellent, the atmosphere and lighting perfect.

go to a chart house elsewhere!. chart house is a chain owned by landry's. other locations around the us are excellent and worth trying. this one is mediocre. if lousy food doesn't excite you, on two visits, the bathrooms have backed up and left a foul odor throughout the entire restaurant.

ambiance: 8/10 - without the stink, the location is quite nice

service: 5/10 - inexperienced

food: 4/10 - entrees on the menu sound better than they taste. saladbarwas a mess.

gorgeous building and location, food is inconsistent. dined here a number of times. love the location and view. sadly the food and cleanliness is up and down. one day everything will be excellent. a month later, the saladbarwill be a mess, bathrooms squalid, and the food improperly prepared. pass on the chart house and try stonewood grill.

views impeccable, drinks delectable!. unlike its brethren in cardiff by the sea, ca or the grove at bayshore, miami – and despite its incredible location right on the potomac waterfront in old town, this ch lacks the luster, finesse and quality its near legendary national namesakes entertain! although i cannot score their culinary offerings highly on the scale, i can say it is a unique location, unequaled ambience and extraordinary views at the old town wharf! their service and attention to detail is pretty good although somewhat inconsistent, and the seafood renderings about average. if you are looking for exquisite seafood you may consider better offerings in northern virginia, and only a stone’s throw away – for the price! we frequent ch a few times a year, primarily for appetizers (which are very good) and their fantasticbarselections. few places in old town offer better mixed cocktails than that of the ch bar, and the libations are enhanced by the view and atmosphere. their renditions of the classics mojitos and martinis, not to mention some of their specialties are beyond reproach and they do not skimp on the main ingredients! albeit, the prices are a little high for the libations, the occasional splurge at the riverside may be worth it.

worth the trip for a nice evening out. we had a party of 4 and all of us were pleased with the experience. we all got different menu items and we got two appetizers, the shrimp cocktail and the calamari and friends. the shrimp cocktail was great, as was the calamari. a couple of us got the saladbarwith our meal and the saladbarwas really good. i ordered from the fresh fish menu and my dinner was great. the service was second to none...some of the best service i've ever experienced and as someone who travels a lot for work and eats in a lot of restaurants, that's saying quite a lot about their service.

be prepared to pay for the dining experience. it's a fine dining restaurant. that being said, i was disappointed in the choice of attire of some of the customers (cargo shorts and t-shirts). dress for the occasion...

always.a great dining pleasure. we' ve been here on several occasions but not in the last couple of years. so my wife and i decided on the chart house for our recent anniversary dinner. they did not disappoint us. my wife had the saladbar( always a great choice ) and the romano chicken and she loved it. i had the saladbarand a remarkable spicey ahi tuna and cooked just the way i like it. both entrees were wonderfully presented too. our server gio was terrific and very attentive. next time i won't wait so long to get back to the chart house...

wonderful view of the potomac. chart house is right by the waterfront, and looks out to the potomac on both lower and upper level. the lower level is where thebaris located, while the upper level has a little nook where the entire wall is glass. sam and i decided to be spontaneous on a friday night and go to old towne alexandria; so did the weather that night. we watched the lightning above the potomac as we had our dinner by candle light.

i had ordered the bbq salmon with mashed potatoes and greens. sam had the mahi mahi. we shared a slice of key lime pie for dessert. it was a very good meal, with a great view. if you want to try chart house- i recommend visiting it during alexandria's restaurant week when participating restaurants including chart house has prix-fixe dinners at an extremely affordable 35$- either for a three course dinner or dinner for two (depending on the restaurant).

[rain] check, please :)

don't bother. save your money. overpriced, lacking in quality and taste, and just plain bad. the only bright side used to be a great saladbarand i don't know if that is still in the same condition or not.

i've stopped going. the chart house in daytona has always been known as the "celebration/date/romance" restaurant. i've been visiting at least once a year for over 10 years, but gradually have become more disappointed each time. i probably won't ever go back.

they do have the best saladbari've ever seen (includes caviar, hearts of palm), and the food is acceptable, although not worth the price. what bothers me is the attitude of the management. evidently, unless you are one of the well known "beautiful people" in town, have your boat at the marina, or obviously have a lot of money (and probably greasing the palm of someone), you can't get a prime table.

i personally went to the restaurant to make arrangements for my mother's 70th birthday. i wanted to make it a very special celebration. i had arranged for a limo to take us there, champagne, etc. i wanted flowers on the table... the works. i will say, they did print a souvenir menu for us, but were not helpful otherwise. i had asked for, and expected to get a window seat, but we were seated on the upper level next to the wait staff's station. there were empty window tables during our visit.

my husband and i have visited each year for the past 5 years to either celebrate my birthday or our anniversary. i will say, the main reason we've chosen ch is because i've had a gift certificate from my employer (and yes, we've tipped based on the total bill, not after the certificate). each time, we've asked for a window table... and each year have not been able to get one. what's going on??? there have always been empty window tables.

the wait staff is usually attentive, but as i say, we've been increasingly disappointed, and are now choosing to spend our hard earned money at a restaurant who shows us they want our business.
