as i sit at home on columbus day recovering from another red-eye flight from the west coast, i can't help but reflect on america's favorite lost explorer. while j and i seem to rack up enough miles to make any gold and fame-seeking sailor proud, we've com

i love being from a part of the country without its own true barbecue tradition. i'm not from memphis, or kansas city. i can love my ribs dry or wet. i'm not from north carolina or texas. i can eat pork slathered in vinegar sauce or succulent brisket with

awesome pit beef!. mouth watering, juicy delicious pit beef, ham & turkey! sandwiches are out of sight - just enough bread to cover the meat. the meat is delicious - like the best pit beef i'd ever had with a cup of au jus just poured over it before i ate it (half an hour after i got it) at home. it was well worth the trip and just awesome. the locals know it's good, too - i arrived at 5:00 pm on a sunday to a line 10 people long that never got shorter. the city paper '02 review referred to the pit bull as being un********believable and they were right.

guy fieri, of food network fame, visited this stop on his diners, drive-ins and dives show and raved about the food being "off da hook". guy fieri got it right on this one!

beef meat bonanza on a bun. our attention was drawn to chaps by guy fieri's show. on a recent trip north we stopped to give pit beef a try.

the menu is extensive, and the gal taking our order was super friendly, warm and welcoming. we let her know it was our first visit--she suggested what we might like. plus, i needed to use the restroom (had been driving for hours), and she was incredibly nice about it. access to the bathroom is through the kitchen, and it was awesome to see the meat cooking and to smell it.

my husband went with the bull dog, and i got the habbit. i ate my habbit without any salt or embellishments because it was loaded with flavor. the first thing i said to my husband was, "how many hours away are we from home?" it's about 4 hours, and would be worth the trip!

the meat is smoky tasting, with an incredible texture and outstanding flavor. a must-try if ever in baltimore, or certainly a consideration to take a drive to experience it.
