heaven on a bun. had not been there for a number of years, way out of the way. went back a number of years ago well worth the trip. the turkey, corned beef, and pit beef sub is the best anywhere, anytime any how. meat is full of tast, flavor, no fat just the best.

when eating a chaps you begin your eating experience immediately with all of your senses. when you walk in the first thing that hits you is the smell of the sweet smokey meat slowly simmering on a massive grill. second you cant help but look at the scene

if you're a baltimore resident and you have not gone here yet, i ask, why? sure, it's in the parking lot of a strip club, of course it looks like a homeless person's shanty and yes it is in a rather...colorful part of town, but that is what makes so damn

if chaps pit beef was good enough for anthony bourdain and guy fieri, it's definitely good enough for us.

not tv worthy. this place is good, but i'm not sure its worthy of being on several television shows. the #51 ranking in baltimore by urbanspoon is probably an accurate ranking. not in the best neighbrhood and it shares parking lot with a strip joint.

great turkey & pit beef. we went here after seeing it on diners, drive-ins & dives. we were pleased with our decision. the turkey was juicy and flavorful. my husband enjoyed his pit beef. the fries were really good too. i was not a big fan of the baked beans since they tasted more like chili to me. i like my beans sweet with brown sugar, but these were more spicy. the atmosphere was very casual--picnic tables and lots of elbow room. the service was fast and for the most part friendly. the menu was a little confusing to us since we had never been before--there are quite a few options and combinations. also note that if you want cheese or tomato on your sandwich--remember to ask--they are add ons. overall we had a good visit with chaps & i would recommend it. i hope to get back myself one day. it was one of the best turkey sandwiches i have ever had!

love the food, not the neighborhood. not much more i can add to what has already been posted. top qualify food, polite and friendly staff. they pile the meat on. in my opinion, most bbq places either give you about 1/2 the meat for the same price or charge a lot more for this much food.

ala-cart menu by the way.

not a place to bring the young kids, specially after dark. i will sit and eat part of my meal there. i prefer to take it home though.

they need to update their website, it is 4 years since it was last updated. prices are slightly higher and a few items are not listed. where most places have jacked up prices or lowered portions the past few years, prices here are not much higher than the old menu on their website, abut 50 cents higher for most items.

meat-lovers mecca. we have been here twice before, and the first thing any first-time patron will notice that this small establishment shares a parking lot with a "gentleman's club" complete with the gaudy flashing marquee. across the street lies an adult bookstore, so it took a moment to find a decent angle to photograph the entrance without also getting a shot of any nearby adult establishment. once you step out of your vehicle, you will forget chap's questionable neighbors as the aroma of the cooking pit immediately takes you back to your favorite memories of summer barbeques past. even though it was below freezing, we did stop a moment to inhale as much as we could.

overall, the building and seating area are a bit shabby, with wooden picnic tables as the seating in the dining area. however, the real quality of this place is where it counts: the meat. we kept our order simple: two roast beef sandwiches, one large order of fries, and one large half-and-half to drink (iced tea/lemonade). they got on our sandwiches quickly as we watched them pull a large slab of beef off the pit fire and begin slicing.

there are two counter tops along the sides of the order pick-up area with a variety of sauces and condiments. once our sandwiches were handed to us (fresh kaiser rolls and not the cheap, value pack little grocery store burger buns) i slathered on the barbecue sauce and, since i like my sandwiches to bite back, slapped on a healthy amount of horseradish then topped it off with a nice pile of onions. there's been plenty of times when eating at a sandwich place, i would say "heavy on the this" or "light on the that" and when my sandwich was served, i wondered if the preparer knew the concept of light and heavy. at chap's, all the condiments are laid out on a couple of counters by the pick up area, so you have complete control over the amounts to be your own sandwich guru.

as everyone in baltimore who cares about local dining knows, this is one of guy fieri's favorite stops and it only takes one bite to know why. the meat is juicy and tender and had the same smoky "bring back memories of barbeques past" quality as the enticing air outside.

will we go again? oh yeah. the roast beef sandwich is the best $4.75 anyone could ever spend and i'm surprised i've never had to wait more than ten minutes to put in my order and even less from order to delivery.

as seen on tv. i was recently on a campout with our scout troop and as usual the subject of food came up among the dads. one mentioned that chaps is a must try for their meaty and tasty sandwiches. i came home from the camout and within a week saw a food network show that featured chaps.

i have to say that everything that i had heard was true! the sandwiches are meaty. the meat is flavorful and delicious. and the portions are hearty. i got the ham, corned beef and beef sub (something 52...not on their online menu) and could barely get my mouth around it! i ate every last bite, though i thought i was done earlier...but could not put it down.

my wife got the beef sandwich and stated she could eat it almost every day! that is saying a lot for someone who seldom likes new places or foods.

this is a great treat that you should check out in baltimore...we drove from virginia to try it out. plan on starting hungry and ending very full. don't go for ambiance, but i will have to say that people watching there is great fun. there are all walks of people there and somehow they all fit in just fine...or perhaps that is the endorphins talking from the great food.

one caveat...make sure that your passengers are clear about where you are going...or they may be a bit taken aback as chaps shares the parking lot (and in close proximity to) with a gentleman's club. as i said...don't go for the ambiance...go for the food! you won't be sorry!
