this place is huge. due to its size, there were quite a number of customers and therefore getting a waitress to take the order took some time. the beerselectionis very good.

it's really a place to come get drunk with friends, however, if you happen to be hungry at the same time, the foodselectionain't bad. the lamb burger is one of my favorites.

pool tables!. came here with my boyfriend before he had to take a go bus home, because it's walking distance from union stn. greatselectionof beer, but the food wasn't great. we enjoyed the cheesy tortilla appetizer! they have a nice ambience and friendly service plus pool tables, so we still had a good time. appetizer + 2 entrees + 3 beers + half an hr of pool added up to about $70.

good beer, average food. first, the positives - great beerselectionand awesome service. what makes this just an okay review is the food. some of the items were good - staggering pig sandwich, shepherd's pie - but others were a bit of a let-down - falafel, vegetable roti. this is a good option for this area of town, but i wouldn't go out of my way to visit.

simply not a place i like. i agree with @breakfastbabe on her review of c'est what. the place is a neat venue, but the food isn't that great; the beerselectionis interesting, but slightly underwhelming in comparison. i got sick from two dishes of theirs on separate occasions at different times - not a good sign since i rarely get sick from anything! and their service is much too pretenious for a bar...i just want to chill, relax and have fun - not to deal with snooty servers. i don't recommend friends to go here, but if i have to go for whatever reason, yeah i'll go, but it's not somewhere i would frequent regularly.

a-ok. c'est what is a rather unique pub in the heart of downtown toronto. theirselectionof beers is quite decent and so is their food menu. although this place is not in my toronto's best list, i would still recommend it and especially if you just go for a bit to eat. my suggestion will be the lamb burger, a must have. only advice is to stay away from the sweet potato fries as these tend to be on the greasy side. other than that, the regular fries and onion rings are ok.

located in the basement, c’est what is occupies a large dark space which has a cozy and homey feel to it. they have a largeselectionof locally brewed beers and what they call an "ethno-clectic” menu which also contains a variety of “sans viande” (aka vegetarian) dishes.

great spot!. fabulous beerselection- if you like a smoky beer, try the big butt! red ale/amber lovers will really enjoy the caraway rye. we had the calamari - it was fantastic, very lightly breaded, cooked perfectly with a refreshing dill dip, then we tried out the falafel, which was also delicious, served with soft pitas, tasty salad, hummus and....the same refreshing dill dip! a little unimaginative perhaps, but both dishes were great tasting and reasonably priced.
the only issue is that we had to go to the bar to get served at first - our waiter never came by. this wasn't a big deal as the bartender was more than happy to deliver our drinks, food and clear the dishes etc., so in the end, we had great service, just not from a waiter! all in all, i will definitely be back.

don't bother eating here. love the atmosphere in this place and the beerselectionbut the food sucks. i had the jerk chicken roti and it was the blandest thing i've ever eaten. tasted like some hippy food you'd buy out of a van at a dead show. two or three pieces of chicken and a bunch of mushy vegatables. no rice, no cheese, no sour cream. boring.

excellentselectionof local craft brews in a cozy basement rec-room environment. a lunchtime favorite. somewhat eccentric takes on pub fare dominate the menu. service generally good and friendly.

the food is the same old. you know pub grub. the beerselectionis weak and up the road the biermarket or beer bistro do much much better. what i dislike here is the bad attitude service. i was not impressed with the way they treated us. the surly attitude earned the waiter a grand zero tip.

theselectionforces you to come back. although this place is downstairs, it has this feeling of being in a bar basement in your house. cozy, clean and modestly decorated bar area made of oak to give off a classy look without any gawdy beer posters strewn about. on top of that, their menu features some very interesting dishes pushing organic and local flavours.

my wife had the appetizer calamari and i had a plate of chicken fingers with their herbed fries. both get a check mark for deliciousness. we would definitely have to come back to try the other items on the menu.

their 35 taps of beer didn't disappoint. moderately priced at $6-$7 per pint you really get some variety. with there being 4 in our party we got to cover a spectrum of beers. from the caraway rye (which didn't taste like it), to the 10 bitter years, the big butt which tasted like i was licking the inside of a chimney wall (very smoky tasting), to the winter ale which had enough of a hint of cinnamon to remind you that christmas was coming and it was getting cold outside.

the service at this place was impeccable. the waiter serving us had such a nonchalantness about him it made the experience even better. the guy only came around when he saw our table was in need of more items. his service time was also extremely prompt. you ordered a beer and he didn't go to 5 other tables before going to fill your order. it seemed like 30 seconds after ordering the pint had arrived. the food service was also super quick.

when you mix a plethora of beer taps and an extensive unique menu you get a winner in my books.
