got a last minute reservation. for an early dinner. staff seemed a bit confused when i arrived - definitely not a warm friendly welcome by young woman at the front or the tall burly bloke that she passed me on to. perhaps they thought i was the delivery guy. ;)
ordered the rib eye steak from the kitchen - instead of the volcanic stone cook-it-yourself option. trust their chefs to do a better job than me (hopefully they have some volcanic stone in their kitchen if it's that good!). no point going to a good restaurant to do the cooking myself (korean bbq excepted)...
decided to try the scallops starter too, which they accommodated even though it was several minutes after my steak order.
verdict:
scallops were delicious - tender, juicy and delicate, melt in your mouth texture. however, overpowered by the strong spicy flavour of the sauce, which would have worked well for a another more robust dish. left most of the sauce uneaten.
steak was tender and tasty. have had marginally better before but at a much higher price point. the highlight of the plate though were the fantastic chat potatoes. beautiful flavour and texture. wonderful surprise instead of the usual bland, over-salted chips. green veg was good too and helped ease my health conscience.after the red meat.
despite the ordinary start, glad i visited...
