best ever. generally speaking, although i love grilled meat, bbq sauce is lost on me. it's always too sweet, too sour, too salty, something. cap's sauce is perfection.

on top of that, they have, hands down, the best pork chop you will ever eat. pork is easy to dry out, especially on the grill. not here. not ever. it's bone in, juicy again, perfection.

i never hesitate to recommend this place, and i doubt i ever will. never seen a waitress with flip flops either - however - as long as she doesn't serve my dinner with her feet - i can't imagine it could ruin the best bbq in minneapolis, and quite possibly the best bbq in the state!

food is ok. it's bar-b-q. when you get bar-b-q you expect to get an option of sauce. we were told we could go buy some down the street. the cook was a sloven oaf who looked like he might add something awful to your order and the owner was a completely uncouth, class-free trash mouth. even a chain bar-b-q restaurant has better food, prices, options, cleanliness, and atmosphere. maybe a local hit but maybe only because it's local... i would never set foot in here again

this one won't blow your socks off by any means, but if you're really hankering grill food and too lazy to make your own, cap's will do. they're specialty is actually pork chops, not so much bbq, but the ribs are fair. simple, not impressive sides, but very nice staff.

pro-tip: eat on the patio or take it to go, as the inside feels kinda of like a renovated fast food joint.

new owner. we have long been customers of caps. we were just there last week and found out there is a new owner. the first thing they did was to stop offering baked potatoes. i am so disappointed. it was one of the things that set caps apart from other barbeque places. it was a healthy option for a side. sadly, we will be going to a place closer to our home instead of making the trip to caps.

overall, i wouldn’t call cap’s a true bbq joint. they do serve some bbq items but ultimately they hang their hat on their ability to grill your food.

yum!. the ribs are great. the sauce is good without being too mild or too spicy. the seasoning they use on their fries rocks. you have to try the pork chops and the country style ribs, they are delicious, cooked and grilled perfectly so they remain juicy and tender! the stacker is a good lunch item too. i haven't made it for breakfast but maybe one of these weekend days i'll motivate myself to leave the house before noon.

not worth it. will not be going back. i'm pretty non picky when it comes to bbq, but the bootlegger was dry and tough, the coleslaw too sweet and the salad i could have bought at the store for cheaper and better. i had high hopes for this place. it was definitely a geriatric hang out at 5pm on a sunday. my man got the stacker, which was decent but still dry. if you like to waste your money by all means.... next time we're going to ted cooks. :/

lost in the discussion of best ribs in the city we tend to forget about this consistently great food producing restaurant that has reasonable prices, great flavor and pleasant staff. a must while visiting the state or make the journey and you will be very happy that you did.

terrible service, bland food!. the waitress was rude. we have a child with food allergies, and the waitress was unable to tell us what the chicken was breaded with. the food was terrible, bland, and warm when it was served, we will never go back.

unforgettable bbq!. ever since my first days there washing out the massive pot that don made the bbq sauce in every morning (seriously, could fit 2 or 3 3year old children in it!), and trying out my first steps in the resturant business, i can not find a bbq sauce that i like better!

i have eaten at just about every bbq joint in the metro area, and tried my best to have an open mind, but in all honesty, they all fall short. cap's bbq sauce is the best! on everything!
there are a few things that might not catch your attention when you think about this mom and pop owned bbq joint, let me point them out to you from a point of view that has seen the back of the house and how things are made:
bbq sauce is made in house every morning (the bottled sauce that is available now was not 15 years ago, however some standards never go down), and only 1 or 2 people aside from don know the recipe :-)
the baked beans are made in house - at one point using just a bit of their bbq sauce for the little "extra" flavor that you can taste just a hint of.
they have peperjack cheese - when you find yourself sitting in the red-covered chairs looking over the menu, and you just can't quite make up your mind, try the peperjack cheeseburger with your side as the baked beans - its a combination of complete heaven (of course you just have to dip the edge of the burger into the beans)!
another thing - when you go in for breakfast, the majical stuff that is put onto your pancakes is maple-butter, make sure to ask for extra, you will not need even a pinch of syrup!
the ribs and pork chops really are smoked for many hours before they are put on the grill for your order, and the stacker and texas style stacker really are made in house as well (it takes forever to pull apart the pork from the huge slabs when it comes out of the oven).

all in all, this family owned resturant is really awesome, the people who are there genuinely care about their customers, they care about how your experience is while dining with them, and they will do their best to remember you when you return. the food (especially the bbq sauce) is amazing, in part for the seasonings/preparation technique, but in part because it is made with love. you will never find a plate/platter coming out of the window looking as if it has been "thrown" together, your food will not be delivered to you cold, or with huge errors from how you ordered; all because these people really do care.

over the years, i have brought my family to cap's to eat, at first it was when i was a young teenager (coming in on my day off), then as a parent with my young son, and nowadays with my spouse and all of our children. there is something really special about cap's!

waitress wearing flip-flops. food is always good, but my husband and i ate there on 7/1/10 which will probobly be our last time. after our meal we noticed that our waitress was wearing flip-flops!! discusting!!!!!!
we both work in the food industry and have all our lives, not only is that a hasard to the waitress, but that's also a health issue! thankfully i hadn't noticed before i ordered, i would not have stayed.
