callahan's bar & grill

let me start a bad review with a positive.... ...the $6 cheesburger and fries/tots lunch special is pretty damn good. 1/2 lb, choice of cheese, and either fries or tots.

now, on to the bad. callahan's bills themselves as

pizzeria. hardly!

i don't see how anyone could, in good conscience, call themselves a pizzeria when they clearly use pre-made crusts. i believe callahan's gets those tortilla-like pre-made rounds, throws some sauce, cheese, & toppings on them, and calls it pizza. very disappointing. i did get their pizza once before to go and was disappointed, but i thought maybe it was just one of those times. i went back to get the excellent lunch burger deal mentioned above and saw the pizza ovens. they were the real deal, so i thought i'd go back and give it another shot. this time i dined in, thinking it would surely be good fresh. holy hell it sucked!

anyway, i'll recommend the burger deal at lunch, but stay far away from the pizza.

going downhill fast! under new ownership & not so good.. chintzy servings and now you have to pay an up charge for tots. we've been going there for nearly 20 years, but will have to start looking around for better bar food. this is definitely not what callahans used to be.

awesome foods and great service!. the callahan's on 87th street now has a new owner and you can tell! the restaurant has been updated and looks great! they have a new menu with some more healthy options for me but, still great pizza and burgers for my kids. they are now serving breakfast on sundays. i had the eggs benedict florentine and it was awesome! everything we have eaten is delicious. if you haven't been to the callahan's on 87th street in a while you should go back. i think you will be please!

callahan's has always uncharged for tater tots; however, i have recently lowered the price and have not changed the portion sizes on any items. we sincerely apologize if you feel like you did not receive the same quality that you have experienced over the last 20 years. please give us another chance and come in and check out the new menu that we just rolled-out a couple of weeks ago. please ask for jeff.

to daddy dan. first of all we are very sorry you had a negative experience regarding your child with food allergies. however, you did not speak to the owner - i am the owner and i too have a child with a severe food allergy. i believe your server that evening as well as the kitchen manager did everything they could to accommodate you - going as far as looking up ingredients in various products.

i believe we tried everything we could to accommodate you that evening and again we apologize for any issues you had and would appreciate another chance. next time you are in, please ask for jeff. also, fyi - we have a new menu and hopefully have some items that your child can safely eat.

not allergy friendly! stay away!. if you have a family member with allergies, do not waste your time. in the 10 years and few hundred restaurants that we have dealt with due to our son's allergies, this was the worst experience we have ever had. the owner acted put out with our questions, you know, the ones that ensure our son doesn't die! she had a bad attitude and a bucket full of excuses why not knowing what was in the food she was serving was not her fault. yes, i was being completely unreasonable.

we are so disappointed. we live in between their two locations and have gone here a number of times before and have always had good experiences. it must be the new ownership. stay away!

bad service. would not return to the shawnee mission location. the service has always been bad there but last night was the last time for us. we go to the lenexa location and love it but shawnee mission is not good. we ordered a medium well burger and when it came out it was by all strandards a medium rare. my daughter in law tried to eat some of it but ate only a few bites. the waitress never came back to check. when she did we had already finished our food so she said she would talk to the manager and give a credit. she came back and told us that they would credit $2.50 but the issue was that we ordered it wrong and that it was medium well. the burger had blood when cut open but they insisted it met all standards for a medium well burger. i was very upset. not because it was under cooked. that happens. we didn't even care if they gave us credit. but to blame the customer and tell them they ordered the burger incorrectly instead of just admitting it was not cooked correctly really upset me. also, what restaurant doesn't serve a 4 year old a cup with a lid? this waitress was so bad as was the manager. and honestly, the food is not the same as lenexa

don't go!. the atmosphere at both locations is awful, even for a bar. the pizza is an abomination of bad meat, cheese and tomato sauce. the crust has to be cardboard. the location off of k-7 and 83rd street is horrible. the last time we were there an ambulance had to be called for a customer. it was not because of the food we hope, but we were not even told by management or the wait staff what the problem was. we have not been back, even for a convenient place close to our home, for a drink.

please leave. we hope a good restaurant will locate there. we need one.

everyone is ragging on the pizza, but it is great. i had pepperoni and italian sausage. service was fantastic, had server named jade, she is quick.

chiefs lost (what's new), but the reuben is great! they smoke their own meat so its very flavorful!

the smell hits you when you open the door. yikes it's bad.

decent food. nothing i couldn't make at home. the bartender/partial manager is horrible. you cannot sit at the bar unless you open a tab, can't switch seats with friends if it's a full house (even if no one else is ordering at the bar). would not recommend this place to anyone. the terrible customer service makes this the absolute worst place to watch the game. if they ignored us it would have been a better night but the partials manager is snooty and obnoxious, as far to even tell at us for trying to hang drinks to our friends standing in back of us. stay home ad enjoy the game in the comfort of your home and order take out.

awful-the beef in the taco salad was cold and dry. i sent it back and the second one was just as bad.

used to be good. i don't know what happened here. this place used to be great years ago. can someone tell me if something like the ownership changed?
there is a strange atmosphere here.

started going here for lunch and found a great menu. tots on the menu...nuff said. the burgers and sandos are solid, never had the pizza. then i found out this place is cornhusker watch site. go big red! get there early on gameday saturdays (around 10-1030); the red clad loons will be there in force. great to watch games with all my big red brethren. very good service; lots of smiles.

soft pretzels & ok service. if you can get over the sometimes slow service, their soft pretzels are amazing. best hands down ever. nothing like the hard ballpark pretzels or pre-packaged frozen ones you get in some places. that's pretty much the only reason i visit since it's a little bit of a drive to get there for me.
