nice dining close to home. this was our second visit and we did arrive an hour before close on a tues night so maybe that had something to do with it but the four cheesepastastuffed shells with chicken was really good last time but chewy and dry chicken this time. my ribeye was a little tough and mostly gristle. we were hoping the bread was served warm. the waiter was friendly but so friendly his other table distracted him with such great conversation he forgot about us and i had to interrupt their social hour to ask for our ticket. $54 dollars later and feeling like maybe we shouldve went to olive garden instead tonight. i will say the menu is unique and they take alot of care in homemade dressings and sauces. the crab rice balls we got as an appetizer wouldve been really good with a spicy cajun style sauce just as a recommendation. i would definitley recommend for a nice quiet dinner place that's close to home if you live in independence cause we don't have many unique non-franchise places to choose from.

passing through town and pleasantly surprised. much more interesting and classic menu than yourpastaheavy style italian. many ingediants were probably not fresh, but the kitchen does a fantastic job with what they have. very well done decor.

very good meal. my wife and i dined at cafe verona on a saturday night in early december of 2012. we made a same-day reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. we ordered the buffalo mozzarella and toasted ravioli to start, both were very good, especially the basil pesto served with the ravioli. the main courses were quite substantial, my wife ordered the carbonara and i ordered the grilled ribeye. while the ribeye was not served in the traditional 'cowtown' style, it was very flavorful and was complimented by the whipped garlic potatoes and perfectly cooked vegetables. my wife's carbonara was very rich, which is to be expected when one orders apastadish that contains creme and bacon. we shared a cannoli for dessert and were very pleased with our knowledgable and attentive server. our bill, for 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, dessert and drinks was around $75 with tip, but one could still eat a nice meal between $40 and $50 if you skip the extra appetizer and the drinks.

cravings from phoenix. in february, my mother got married, and as it was a small ceremony, had her reception at cafe verona. growing up in kc, i'd heard of this little hole in the wall, but never been. now, 23 and living in phoenix, i'm desperate to go back. we did the family style servings, which is four courses (chosen beforehand by my mother), that each come out on four plates, placed along the table to be shared by the guests. one of these wonderful plates contained the lemon basil shrimp. now, my mother's wedding was a month ago, and since i have returned to phoenix, the only craving on my mind, day in and day out, is this dish. the shrimp were huge, perfectly cooked, with that pleasant snap as you bite into each one. the lemon sauce was, quite frankly, the best damnpastasauce i've ever had in my life. ever. i've spent the past month frantically scouring the internet for a potential runner up, but to no avail. luckily for me, as half the table couldn't/wouldn't eat the shrimp, we got to take home approximately four large to go boxes of the glorious shrimp, two of which were happily gobbled down by me. this was the best shrimppastadish i've ever consumed, and i will now be visiting cafe verona on each return trip home, alone if i must, just for this dish.

good food, cozy atmosphere. husband and i happened to be in independence friday night and decided to give it a try. we were impressed right off by the inviting patio that is just outside the front door-though it was much to cold to indulge in an al fresco meal that night, i bet we'll be back to give the patio a try. we had a lovely meal. started with martini's then on to yummy fig and walnut spinach salads. while we were waiting for our entrees we played the little conversation topic game that was on our table, it's always fun to learn something new about your spouse. when our entrees came we had already devoured most of the bread basket with our martinis. i had the lemon basil shrimppastaand i don't remember what my husband had. mine was very good and served attractively. the service was good and the restaurant had a very cozy feel to it. we'll be back.
