best italian in the metro?. bold statement right? this place can back it up. it's on par or a nose ahead of some of the best italian offered in the metro. it's not cheap (and good italian shouldn't be), but they have good service and an upscale but relaxed atmosphere that matches their delicious dishes to a t. highly recommended. (it's also worth noting that these guys do portions right. i always leave full, but don't feel like a pig with 4 servings on my plate when it comes to the table.)

fabulous salads! fresh, and large portions! the insalata bistecca came with not just a few pieces of meat, but rather a buttery full steak on my salad! i would not only recommend, but encourage people to try this restaurant.

this is a place you should go to try more authentic italian food. i've been here multiple times and never left disappointed. only downside it more authentic italian equals a little bit more expensive italian.

nice dining close to home. this was our second visit and we did arrive an hour before close on a tues night so maybe that had something to do with it but the four cheese pasta stuffed shells with chicken was really good last time but chewy and dry chicken this time. my ribeye was a little tough and mostly gristle. we were hoping the bread was served warm. the waiter was friendly but so friendly his other table distracted him with such great conversation he forgot about us and i had to interrupt their social hour to ask for our ticket. $54 dollars later and feeling like maybe we shouldve went to olive garden instead tonight. i will say the menu is unique and they take alot of care in homemade dressings and sauces. the crab rice balls we got as an appetizer wouldve been really good with a spicy cajun style sauce just as a recommendation. i would definitley recommend for a nice quiet dinner place that's close to home if you live in independence cause we don't have many unique non-franchise places to choose from.

three ladies out for a nice evening!. only to be disappointed with service and food! it was a lovely evening so we decided to sit put in the court yard where we were ignored for app 10-15 minutes. others were being seated around us and was promptly acknowledged and serviced. a couple who was seated after us was given first attention verses us. we were given three small dishes of oil and cheese. she took our drink order and left. my other girlfriend was on the phone and so i finally had to ask the waitress to come take her drink order. no bread, plates or silverware and no drinks. finally the first two and took some time for the third to arrive. finally we order. salads arrive, yeah! but no silverware, so i had to ask for it. here's the bottom line to our experience we had to ask for everything and wait and wait. we were charged each a dollar for a second basket of bread. we were not told verbally but when the issue was addressed i was rudely told that it's stated on the menu. when addressing our experience with the manager she finally took off the dollar. no other compensation was offered. that did not satisfy my other friend so she went to speak with the manager. we eat out a lot and know what good service and customer service is. we want the experience and professionalism that comes with the atmosphere and price point. servers earn their wage by serving us the public it's no different than an office job where i have to perform to my best in order to earn my money. very disappointed with service and i won't go into about the sangrias!

the atmosphere is lovely and the service was decent, however there was something off about each dish we ordered. the menu embellishes descriptions a bit (buffalo mozzarella appetizer arrived with plain old mozzarella, forest mushrooms turn out to be white buttons) so when dishes arrive they are not quite what was expected. quality of steaks is very low-think sizzler. this restaurant could be so awesome, the decor is truly lovely, but the food is just not very good. low quality ingredients=low quality dishes.

outstanding ambiance and food to match. trio bruschetta followed by strawberry walnut salad then the sweet corn risotto and artichoke ravioli and dessert of lemon cake. yum! add a very good and playful waitress-katie made the evening wonderful!

passing through town and pleasantly surprised. much more interesting and classic menu than your pasta heavy style italian. many ingediants were probably not fresh, but the kitchen does a fantastic job with what they have. very well done decor.

very good meal. my wife and i dined at cafe verona on a saturday night in early december of 2012. we made a same-day reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. we ordered the buffalo mozzarella and toasted ravioli to start, both were very good, especially the basil pesto served with the ravioli. the main courses were quite substantial, my wife ordered the carbonara and i ordered the grilled ribeye. while the ribeye was not served in the traditional 'cowtown' style, it was very flavorful and was complimented by the whipped garlic potatoes and perfectly cooked vegetables. my wife's carbonara was very rich, which is to be expected when one orders a pasta dish that contains creme and bacon. we shared a cannoli for dessert and were very pleased with our knowledgable and attentive server. our bill, for 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, dessert and drinks was around $75 with tip, but one could still eat a nice meal between $40 and $50 if you skip the extra appetizer and the drinks.

cravings from phoenix. in february, my mother got married, and as it was a small ceremony, had her reception at cafe verona. growing up in kc, i'd heard of this little hole in the wall, but never been. now, 23 and living in phoenix, i'm desperate to go back. we did the family style servings, which is four courses (chosen beforehand by my mother), that each come out on four plates, placed along the table to be shared by the guests. one of these wonderful plates contained the lemon basil shrimp. now, my mother's wedding was a month ago, and since i have returned to phoenix, the only craving on my mind, day in and day out, is this dish. the shrimp were huge, perfectly cooked, with that pleasant snap as you bite into each one. the lemon sauce was, quite frankly, the best damn pasta sauce i've ever had in my life. ever. i've spent the past month frantically scouring the internet for a potential runner up, but to no avail. luckily for me, as half the table couldn't/wouldn't eat the shrimp, we got to take home approximately four large to go boxes of the glorious shrimp, two of which were happily gobbled down by me. this was the best shrimp pasta dish i've ever consumed, and i will now be visiting cafe verona on each return trip home, alone if i must, just for this dish.

reminded me of rome. we only ate here once but the neighborhood feel, courtyard, sound of rushing water from the fountain, and the food evoked an authentic feel. my husband had eggplant parm which he liked, but i didn't. the were thick breadwd slices however his fettucini with marinate sauce was perfect. i had the fra diavolo with seafood which was wonderful. it wasn't a whole lot of food but still enough that i took some home to eat the next day. i appreciated the fact that the sauce in both dishes clung to the pasta, not the plate, and that the cheese was freshly ground from a big block at our table. we had a bindi tartufo imported from italy for dessert. the menu lists it as simply gelato, but that is misleading for anyone who has ever had the tartufo. all in all a terrace find for those who appreciate authentic italian food.
