i admit, i went here for my spouse, i wasn’t too excited to go to a place with an all vegan menu, in fact, i haven’t been to a place with an all vegan menu before but i found several items on the menu that i liked.

yes. an all vegan joint in cowtown.. an all vegan menu, i haven’t been to a place with an all vegan menu before but i found several items on the menu that i liked. interesting and very “new age-y”, our waitress told us the topic of conversation for the day was “who inspires you”. some items are listed as “live” on the menu, i asked what that meant (these are plants after all, once you harvest them, aren’t they dead)? it means that they weren’t heated above 115 degrees and therefore keep most of their nutrients and flavor. many ingredients are organically grown locally at a farm named be love too. okay, so the name is a little odd, but i like the organically grown locally part.. i’m a big proponent of the whole eat local craze, hopefully, it’s making me healthier... i guess we’ll see.

if i lived in kansas city i'd eat here at least twice a week. fantastic creativity and flavor with no use of animal based foods.

funny names for good food. food: the "honoring" (hummus) was spicy and filling. i've never had anything like it. even the crackers you put the hummus on are creative and tasty. i've been three times and still cannot get enough of the "transformed" (tacos.) they are full of flavor and you will leave with your belly satisfied. my dining companions got the "fortified" (veggie quinoa bowl), "extraordinary" (clt), and "humble" (curried lentils.) all of which were gone before i could get a taste!

service: our waiter/waitresses have always been attentive, kind, and know their stuff. they will give you the whole lowdown on the restaurant if you want or will leave you alone if that is your thing. it seems like they really care about their patrons happy.

overall: ordering by declaring that you are (insert superlative here) is really weird, but the food is worth the uncomfortable declaration. simple healthy food with lots of flavor is inspiring!

as you may have noticed, the menu items at café gratitude have unconventional names, which are mantras like i am humble, i am blessed, i am so happy to be eating at a vegan restaurant where i can order anything on the menu. (okay, so that last one was just my grateful feeling…) i’ve heard many people complain about its goofiness or that they feel awkward ordering, but you know what? i thought it was fun. plus, whenever an order is ready in the back, the cook calls out to the various servers, “megan, you are dazzling! sara, you are vibrant!” the yells of positivity sounded sincere, even if it’s just part of the menu. it made me feel good to hear people yelling out nice things to each other. if nothing else, you have to smile at how unusual of an experience it is to hear these kinds of things being called out in a restaurant.

yum!. i love cafe gratitude. so far, out of approx. 9 people we've introduced to cafe g, all have loved it except one, who likes it ' ok', but is admittedly a pretty unhealthy eater, ie: junky food mcdonald s, etc. even she however has returned with us a couple times since to eat. the staff is very friendly and, fun, proud, knowledgeable about their food. gratitude is their theme to be sure.
while i do eat meat, i have not missed it after my meals here. the food has great flavor, and you are full when you leave. there are great salads. substantial ,flavorful entree's. you can even have a seemingly decedent desert that really is yummy! also they have a great selection of interesting, tasty , and healthy drinks! no gluten and no, or, less processed sugar are key for many of us these days. i feel like i can go here and eat freely, from appetizer to desert!! this is a direction kc is finally heading, i seriously hope kc appreciates this destination! liberating indeed!!

cafe gratitude is the new vegetarian/vegan restaurant on the block, occupying the space on southwest blvd that lulu’s noodle shop vacated when it moved around the corner. there are several cafe gratitude eateries in california, but this is the first one to open not in the golden state. it took local owners natalie and mike george several years to convince the california owners that kansas city could support this type of restaurant, but their perseverance has already paid off.  the restaurant has been packed since it opened. each dish has a name that’s affirming, so even if the food doesn’t make you feel virtuous,  the labels will. but the food is healthful…and quite good. it’s not inexpensive fare; the stuff that’s good for you usually isn’t, but the portions are substantial and filling. we started with the i am honoring nachos, made with spicy sunflower “bean “pâté, guacamole, salsa fresca, nacho cheese and homemade crackers. instead of the typical

a few weeks ago i finally made it to the kansas city cafe gratitude location! the restaurant offers vegan/vegetarian fare that also has several raw options. if you haven't heard much about cafe gratitude check out their website for information, they all have a passion for food that even if you don't share it, is totally inspiring! i met up with a one of my vegetarian best buddies for lunch on a hot sunday! the restaurant didn't have a wait but it was full and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. as we looked over the menu we learned that every dish was named for an affirmation for yourself, i loved the idea of this! it just made me smile!  i ordered two things off the menu and loved both of them! my friend also had two things and thought they both tasted great! for a drink i ordered the "i am grace" smoothie. oh my goodness was this thing delightful! i am not a fan of nut butters in my smoothies but it really went well with the dates and coconut milk. i am going to have to ma

what would be not to like?! (except no meat). i added this to my favorites. my lovely daughter-in-law treated me to lunch this past sat and we completely enjoyed the experience (as well as one another!)! priced a little higher, sort of like eden alley, but so fresh and delicious. she had some sort of tacos and loved them, along with a carrot, lemon, beet, & orange juice which i tasted and it was very yummy. i had the veggie burger which was black bean with "mozarrella", and avocado; it comes with a side salad. the salad was fresh baby greens but not pre-packaged with some crunchy sprouts and carrot-yum! the burger was outstanding-though somewhat crumbly and difficult to handle. the mustard/cashew spread brought the whole thing together. we also enjoyed a chocolate macaroon cookie each. i'm telling you, we left so stuffed and happy. the atmosphere and service is friendly and warm, we will both be back, and back, and back!

pizza was good (i am creative) and blt was great (i am extraordinary).  juice was great but expensive.  carrot cake was excellent. everything was very fresh tasting and unique. 38 plus tip for two for lunch but it was definitely worth it.

i don’t eat wheat or refined sugars (sigh!), so pie/dessert is usually off my radar, which is why the “i am irresistible” chocolate coconut cream pie at the organic, vegan cafe gratitude is like manna from heaven.
