started off very well as we seated ourselves on the verandah overlooking the marina and a waiter swiftly provided menus and a bottle of water. just as swiftly he took off without asking if we would like to order a drink. waiting to place a drink order ( as i refuse to even order myfooduntil i have a drink in front of me ) i finally flagged someone down. drinks in hand we were then besieged with six yelling children ( parents inside and don't care) thundering up and down the boardwalk with no-one doing anything about it ( our drinks and table were shaking) so we had to move but that offered little relief. ordered our meals and my husband had the "special" tasmanian salmon at $29.00, very meager but the salmon was reasonable. i had the soup of the day, mushroom, well it could have been cream of anything as it had no specific flavor. the toasted turkish bread was soft and mushy. oh, and they forgot the bread initially so i had to go in search of it, sorry to put the surly waitress out. despite being new locals to the area and just up the road, we will not be back any time soon. better to take byo to the fish shack next door, where the fish is delicious. the final insult which we didn't realize until later was that we were overcharged by around 10.00, make sure you ask for an itemised bill.

really enjoyed thefoodand atmosphere. service was amazing andfoodcame out really quick. we didn’t want anything too fancy and just wanted a big feed and we weren’t disappointed. the pork schnitzel was really good, didn’t have a strong pork, had really fresh chips and a nice mushroom gravy/sauce. the carbonara had a really nice flavour, not too rich, and had really fresh cherry tomatoes. great value for money, will be returning. next time will be trying the lamb rack, table next to us had it and it looked the goods.

we dined here on friday as a group of 6 for a birthday and had a wonderful experience. thefoodwas incredible (chicken parmigiana, green chicken curry, kids nuggets and chips, kids fish and chips and the seafood frenzy for 2) the service was unbeatable, there was colouring activities given to the kids keeping them happy, the atmosphere was lovely making it the perfect evening. thank you for a fab night out!

i saw some of the the low ratings on zomato, and all i can say is our group of 6 had a great lunch. thefood(especially seafood) and service were excellent, nice views over water, modern layout and furnishings. overall very happy. recommend the squid!!

so much potential.... i don't like writing a negative review based on a single experience, but after dining at cafe coast for the fourth time i believe it is time for some feedback.
the location is beautiful, perfectly situated on the waterfront. the atmosphere is casual and understated elegance. and the staff is forthcoming, polite and attentive, creating a perfect setting for a nice dining experience.
in contrast, thefoodis a let down. whether it was the vegetarian breakfast wrap (a lot of cheese and little else), the muesli (served in a soup bowl, muesli and yogurt lying side by side) or eggs on toast (that i had with a side of under-seasoned spinach and mushrooms drowned in butter), i was disappointed every time.
to be fair, my husband's eggs benedict were beautifully cooked and the coffee is always delicious.
when we went out for lunch a couple of days ago, we had the antipasti platter for two and i were both completely underwhelmed by what we were given.
the pork belly was swimming in honey and the fat had not been sufficiently rendered, making for a sickening combination. the squid was nice, but nothing special. the marinated mediterranean vegetables were no stand-out either. the bread had been toasted off in a sandwich maker and was soft and chewy at the same time (my two year-old had one bite and decided he would have no more). i am no big fan of arancini balls in general, so there really wasn't much on the plate that either of us enjoyed. however, the most confusing thing on the plate were the two bowls of dips (cocktail and tartar sauce). why anyone need two bowls of different types of mayonnaise for six pieces of squid is beyond me.
all in all, i can recommend cafe coast for coffee, a nice cold beer or a glass of wine, but thefoodhas been uninspiring and boring and we won't be dining here again.

went for sunday lunch. they were very busy but fitted us in without any problem. thefoodwas nice and very tasty and the service was very good. not often you get both these days. didn't have to wait very long at all for our meals. would definitely recommend going there.

chall73, could not agree more!
australia day, we came for beers and food. were not greeted at the door but ignored, waitress turned her back on us and walked away. awkward moment but we forged on and seated ourselves. ordered two pints, one each. one pint arrived and was placed in the middle of us and nothing said. surely you would ask who is having the pint and then asked the other person "are you ok for a drink"? waited for another waitress to pass (eventually) we were able to let them know we wanted 2 pints, second pint dumped down with yet another frown. it appears pouring beer is beneath them yet 90% of the people in here were drinking pints. perhaps if thefoodwasn't so expensive and menus were delivered with a smile more people would dine rather than just drink here.
we are the fools anyway this is about the tenth time we have been here with disappointing service every time. we will be sure to spread the word!!! and enjoy our last pint here with this wonderful view, wasted on a bitter team of miserable cafe snobs.

given plenty of chances. we have a place in falcon and always searching for local restaurants to support. we have tried this place three times now and always leave disappointed with thefoodand the expense. i didn't even finish one of their specialities and the steak was tough and full of gristle. sorry, no more.

iced coffee and a cookie. i had an iced coffee and a cookie (biscuit, to be australain) the staff were good (i wonder if they had been trained by a yank?) i went there with one other fellow, i would give them seven out of ten, without eating theirfoodthere is a view of the marina, so you can see lots of rich mans toys. which is a good view. i would go there again. i plan to take my wife next time.

dreadful!. we chose the beautiful location of the restaurant for my husbands birthday lunch and took his parents with us who were visiting us from overseas.after ordering ourfoodwe were still waiting for it an hour later,we asked a waitress how long it would be but she never returned with an answer.we observed the table in front of us being served, but there were several people who had their main courses and three who didn't.
we asked the supervisor/manager how long our meals would be and he came back and told us 5mins...another twenty minutes later (by now a total of one and a half hours) we still had no food,so decided to pay for our drinks and leave.
we then discovered that other people's drinks from another table had been put on our bill,so obviously refused to pay the $53 dollars for two cokes and one beer!

don't bother for dinner. everything overcooked to point of almost being inedible.4 mains 2 soft drinks & bottle wine for $150.would have been decent value iffoodhad been well prepared.
btw what is the point of a lump of salad at the side of your plate with no dressing?
