cafe centraal

i'm sure it would be wonderful if it were smoke-free. i ate at cafe hollander a few days after it opened and liked its beer selection and wonderful menu items from the low countries. of course, i haven't been back there because (1) i moved out of the east side, and (2) it turned out to allow smoking, which i didn't know when i first sat down. since it is owned by the same people, i think centraal has basically the same offerings, but i wouldn't know, since i won't enter a place if i know it allows smoking. when centraal bans smoking, i'll be there when they open the door, because i've heard good things and i'm dying to try some more interesting sauces for my frittes!

i previously had great times at cafe centraal, but today the service was atrocious....20 minute wait for a couple bloody marys that arrived to my table without straws. no more smoking indoors which was disappointing but inevitable. love the food and the atmosphere though, so it won't stop me from coming back....just a disappointing experience.

fun place, great food. food is outstanding with a lot of selection! service was really great except when i asked about a food allergy in one of the sauces, they never got back to me. that was a little disappointing, but not disappointing enough to stop us from coming back. we will definitely be back!

cafe centraal is one of my favorite lunch/dinner spots in milwaukee. you can't go wrong with anything on the menu and they have a decent beer selection. the sweet potato fries with sriracha mayo are one of my favorite appetizers!

the frites in a cone are a great app. & the choices of sauces are tasty. i had the buttermilk chicken sandwich which was wonderfully decadent. our server was attentive and restrooms well maintained. don't recall a bad experience here.

really nice establishment, service is always good, food is always great. they change the menu with the seasons, except a couple house classics. friday fish fry is one of the best in town! nice selection of beer if your looking to try something with your dinner. outside seating during summer is really nice...

stopped in for a burger  - was delicious!
service was a little slow, but not the end of the world.
it also looked like they had an ourdoor courtyard that would be nice on a day that isnt so hot outside. 

will be back!

love it here, original food, always yummy, specialty bloody mary's, i had the bloody maria - made with tequila and lime juice - yum! it was spicy but delish. brunch here is fantastic, cheesy yummy skillets, and great drinks (they will serve your underage kids to state laws! which is an added plus for me!) overall good eats whatever you get! the blackberry turkey sandwich is the best turkey sandwich i've had in my life!

don't be fooled. cannot understand why people live this place. it was overpriced, food was mediocre at its best. service also average or worse. i have been there 3 different times at different days and times and all of them were bad experiences. never going back. some people just likes it is 'trendy' just like cafe hollander, cafe bavaria and others like that. and they do not care about the quality of the food they get. my dish was watery and very small portion. i had to go home and eat again. not interested in restaurants that cater to 'yuppies'

had the jalepeno bbq burger and it was delish, looooveed the pistachio creme brulee. was very busy but the food was great and beer was good. server was extremely nice and attentive.

love benelux and hollander in the village, so i had to check out centraal when i was in bay view during the harley 110th. the service was great, even though it was pretty crowded and we had a fairly large group (7) without reservations. they were also very tolerant towards my 3-y.o. nephew who was fascinated with the peeing boy statutes around the patio. most of us ordered burgers and they all received thumbs up; 1 ordered the meatloaf sandwich which was really outstanding. the frites and dips are great, just like lowlands' other restaurants as are the biers.

poor service and crowd control. i’ve been to café centraal several times since my girlfriend lives really close by. other than the excellent beer selection i really don’t have much else good to say about the place. the food is just so-so. my last experience was my worst yet....on new year’s day went here for breakfast. first, they forgot about us and never sent a waitress and i had to ask a bar tender to get us service. next, their ability to control the people waiting for a table was outrageous. my table was completely surrounded by people waiting. it was like the bar i was at the night before somewhere around 1am. butted up against my table was four people waiting for a table. the place was so packed with people standing that they were nudging against my table and surrounding me to the point of feeling claustrophobic. i know that new year’s day is going to be crowded, but this was ridiculous. it ruined my entire meal and because of the poor “crowd control” i won’t be coming back to cc or any of their sister restaurants.

i had dinner and had the club sandwich. it was good, but not as good as i had hoped. the fries were hot and fresh and that is always a great thing!

went in for a meal and a few drinks with friend. the waitress made an obvious assumption 'we didn't look like we would tip her' . we ended up not ordering food and went straight to the bar. the bartender was great. i wouldn't go back, the waitress left a bad taste in my mouth.

outstanding!!! from the waitress to the food and even the atmosphere, this place is great!! the waitress took seven orders in her head and everyone got what they ordered. for a busy saturday night, everything was superb!! can't wait to come here again
