unpleasant surprise. hmmm...... my first negative review because i am generally pretty easy to please. as other reviewers, i had a restaurant.com coupon when i took my mom for a birthday dinner. we told the waitress about the coupon up front, and ordered a couple of drinks, a calamari app. (underdone, limp breading) and two crab cake sandwiches (so-so). the meal came with bread (hard). the calamari came out quickly, but the crab cake sandwiches took almost an hour. so,we would have left and been ok with the slow service and so-so food, but..... at the end of the meal the waitress (friendly enough girl) took the cert. number off the app on my phone. great new tool, by the way. but once it's validated -- that's it. your $25 is gone. she came back and told us that we couldn't use it because it was food only . no alcohol.
ok.... i've been all over myrtle beach with these certificates and that isn't a thing anywhere else we've gone, but ok. here is what got me. the waitress came back and apologized because this same thing happened to her 2 days ago! here are some logical choices for our waitress: a) tell us up front it's $50 minimum food only. at which time, we would have either stayed, but not gotten the app or the 2nd drink to push the bill for two ppl to $50 or left happily to come back another day with a party of four. or b) since we had already spent $38 on food, encourage us to get desserts or take some crab soup to go to make the $50 mark. she just closed out our check. so, i asked to speak to a mgr.(chris) to discuss the issue of the validated "used" certificate that didn't get used. he was very "fake" pleasant. you know the type.... smiled and said ma'am, but you knew he was thinking other words in his head. he had some logical choices too. a) to apologize, and give us 15% off the bill, as a courtesy. (i get e-mails from the restaurant that offer this or some other special, pretty regularly) b) offer us a dessert on the house (it was my mom's birthday, after all) c) offer us a free appetizer on a return visit. any of those choices would be good customer service, chris basically said, "too bad, so sad." he said to call restaurant.com and have them call the restaurant, and if he was there, he'd say we didn't use the cert. when i expressed that had a limited chance of working out, he actually said, "look, do you want my help or not? that's all i'm going to do." now brother shuckers probably doesn't care, because they were jammin' on a tues. night, but they certainly lost my business.
