broken plate

located in the willow park strip mall, there is ample parking in front of the restaurant. the calamari in the calamarisaladwas coated nicely and was super crispy. the creme brulee was a nice way to end the meal. service was friendly and the ambience was good. would recommend coming here with friends or family.

looking for something besides pub food led us to the broken plate. the service was sparse as i think the waiter looked forlorn that we didn't anything more than entres. we had the lobster ravioli and the calamari salad. my friend thought the pasta was thick and heavy. i thought it had good portion. my calamari was lightly battered and fried well placed high onsaladgreen. i thought the calamari needed tge tzikiki sauce. unfortunately it doesn't come with sauce and it's 1.50 extra on top of 17.50. if you have just the calamari yoy get the sauce and it's $13. i think that's nonsense enough to break my heart.

an expensive joke. i went to broken plate in willow park for lunch with three girlfriends. service was rather slow - we waited a while for our food even though the restaurant wasn't that busy. my real problem with this place was my food: i ordered a large horiatikisaladwith prawns. thesaladwas food court quality - bland tomatoes, three olives, a salty dressing. and the prawns? i got two of them, for $5. when i told the server i had honestly expected more than two prawns on my prawn skewer, he sent over the manager, who explained that they used to give three prawns (oh, the generosity!) but now they switched suppliers and these prawns, the two of them that i received, are bigger. first, i don't care, and second, really? my friends and i just laughed. a very disappointing $17 salad, i have to say.

not only my favorite greek place...it's my favorite period.. i'm really surpized this place isn't rated higher, as it's absolutely my favorite place to eat anywhere for lunch, i often just have asaladwith grilled salmon. for dinner i've tried many of their entres, and they were all great. most of the time i stick to chicken souvlaki, and it's the best i've had anywhere. i love greek food, and calgary has some good choics, but this is definitely my first choice.

broke my wallet. i am not only a fan of greek food, i am also a family member! i was inducted into the kirizopoulus family by their eldest son last summer. since then, it's not all greek to me anymore! i totally understand everything.

and then there was the broken plate...

they make up for their lack of portions by setting things on fire. plain and simple. flare and ambiance distracts the consumer from the strict portion control and this side of drab flavour.

sorry. but five foot flames reaching up and scorching the ceiling will not compensate for the lack of food on my plate and the fact that i had to dig really deep and break my bank to dine at the broken plate.

the food was mediocre too. a greeksaladhas many forms depending on the region. these days tradition is gone with the wind and there are more urban ways of doing things to save on food costs. for instance, adding romaine lettuce to a greeksaladhas stepped up the volume of the food whilst cutting down on the traditional flavours of the olive and the gorgeous sheep's milk feta cheese.

i'm sorry but if i have to ask for extras, they might as well be on a whopper at the burger king, because that's where you will end up after eating at the broken plate!

didn't care for this the second time round. had a decent first meal, but by our second visit, we wish we had tried someplace new. first course sampler is delicious, andsaladis lovely. however, nothing after that had much appeal to me. better off driving a bit and dining at someplace with more quality..
