good times. i dine here all the time and have always been impressed with both the food and service.
the rack of lamb is the best i've tried in the city. my wife loves the baklava.

the prices for the food and wine are reasonable and they always have creative features. i haven't tried one yet but i think one of these days i'll have to.

i would recommend this restaurant to everyone.

first and last!. the service was aweful! my friend was just greeting us as they were arriving and the manager was very quick to say please go to your seats! we let that passed, but then, the manager again did asked one of our friends to sit on the floor!!! she's just came to visit canada, arrived the other night, then this was how she was welcomed by the first restaurant she's been to here! how rude was that? when we talked to him to ask to apologize and explained that she's our visitor, he quickly said, i will not apologize, she should be the one to say sorry to me!!! where in the world did you see such customer service like this? our group filled up half of his restaurant that night and none of us will definitely go back!!! very traumatizing to first time clients like us and specially to our visitor from ireland!

not worth it. we were there for a friend's birthday. i ordered lamb souvlaki and my husband had moussaka. moussaka was decent but the souvlaki were very dry and tasteless, and the presentation was very poor - there was not even any garnish on the plate. they claim that it is fine dining and it does look fancy, so for the prices they charge i kinda expected something more. very disappointed. not sure if i will come back.

dinner at broken plate macleod. first time at the broken plate. i wanted to try it because of the wine and food festival. it was a birthday celebration. when the reservation was made they were told that. when we arrived no one was there to greet us. as i hung up my coat another 2 ladies came in and they were greeted and taken to their table. i found my own way to the table and almost running into 2 servers.
the waitress never told us there was a cocktail menu or what the soup of the day was. my hubby told her 3 times we were celebrating a birthday. the appitizers came out quickly. small in portions, the meat balls were burnt and dry.
an hour and 40 minutes later the entrees arrived. my lamb chop was amazing. some of the rest of the groups meals were not so great. the ribs were dry.
after i got my dessert, a table beside us got a birthday candle and a song. when i asked why i didn't get a candle the waitress says, " oh you want us to sing for you?" guess by my husband saying it was my birthday was not a big enough hint. i asked if there was a plate or something i can throw.
the waitress brought out a plate.
sorry now matter how delicous the lamp chop was i will not go back and never recomend bringing hungry teenagers.

to the poster, "mark" below.... i'm sorry, but i couldn't help but read mark's post from below and i felt obliged to reply. i used to work at broken plate. while i disagree with almost everything you're saying, i will not get into why except for the part about being forced to tip 20% because that is absolutely ridiculous. there is a 20% option on the system, yes, but right next to it there is an option for "other" where you can add your own percentage or dollar amount. forcing someone to tip 20% is illegal. criticism is just the nature of the industry whether justified or not, and usually i can live with peoples opinion, but i just had to give my 2 cents on this one.

unanimously delicious. we had heard mixed reviews about this place but wanted to try something new in our end of town and are we ever glad we did! our meal began with the sampler dips and pita bread (wonderfully warm). i thoroughly enjoyed the lobster ravioli - the chef made a fresh sauce for me to accommodate my food allergy. i tried my husband's fall off the bone tender lamb shank and was very impressed. others at our table had the basa, lamp chops and rack of lamb - unanimously delicious. plus, each dish was attractively arranged. our server was very friendly and attentive to our table. the opa! dish made for good entertainment. we didn't have dessert because we had more than elegant sufficiency but i saw a couple of people with baklava and it looked scrumptious. i can't imagine how appetizing their five layer chocolate cake must be.

it is all not greek to me. i just got back from living in greece.
broken plate is not greek... they just take greek style fonts and dress up bland dishes to sound greek like. i would say the food was edible as it appeared clean, but that was all it had going for it. i have seen tv dinners with more flavor. --too expensive

they lacked gyros -- a common greek dish, and mocked at it as some low end street meat. --like as if they were too proud to serve it. they also had no idea what garlic toast was--- or for that matter anything that had garlic in it.

this is just another over franchised bland north american restaurant that has more incommon with mcdonalds than greece. --- it is ok to like it, but this is not greek food, it is fast food served slowly.

the reason why they call it the broken plate was because you want throw the plate at the servers after having such bad service.

beware of their credit card/ debit machine... it has some glitch which automatically makes you tip 20%... and when you change the tip or not tip, it errors out. eventually after trying in vein to tip less than 20% for bad service, i broke down and just paid the 20% tip... and then it worked. ---- if you do go--- bring cash.

not bad for my first time. when i go for ethnic food i like to be sucked in to the culture and this did not happen my first time trying greek. the food was good but i felt like i was dining at any other restaurant. there was plate throwing but you are just throwing a plate into the bar area...

opa!. please eat here! i've never enjoyed calamari anywhere else since eating the broken plates, and the lamb is the absolute best rack of lamb in the city, and the best i have ever tried! on friday and saturdays they do a greek dance around the restaurant, which makes the whole night fun, on top of great food, its an awesome experience. break a plate to end the night and you'll go back, no questions asked!

not only my favorite greek place...it's my favorite period.. i'm really surpized this place isn't rated higher, as it's absolutely my favorite place to eat anywhere for lunch, i often just have a salad with grilled salmon. for dinner i've tried many of their entres, and they were all great. most of the time i stick to chicken souvlaki, and it's the best i've had anywhere. i love greek food, and calgary has some good choics, but this is definitely my first choice.

uninspiried food. blah, i love greek food...and this isnt!
i found it under seasoned, dry and cold.
started with the dip sampler, was ok kopanisto was good but the others i didnt care for.
as mains, my guest had the zeus chicken and it was dry and flavourless. i had lamb....wasnt what i expected!
very small portions came way over done and had been charred on top...and i ordered it rare. rice was dry and cold tasted like week old chinese freid rice.
the staff tried to make up for the less than spectacular food by buying us dessert, but as much as we appreciated the guesture...the baklava was soggy and tasted stale.

wont be back, and seriously disappointed in the food
as we were told it was the best greek in town...even kefi up the road is better.

broke my wallet. i am not only a fan of greek food, i am also a family member! i was inducted into the kirizopoulus family by their eldest son last summer. since then, it's not all greek to me anymore! i totally understand everything.

and then there was the broken plate...

they make up for their lack of portions by setting things on fire. plain and simple. flare and ambiance distracts the consumer from the strict portion control and this side of drab flavour.

sorry. but five foot flames reaching up and scorching the ceiling will not compensate for the lack of food on my plate and the fact that i had to dig really deep and break my bank to dine at the broken plate.

the food was mediocre too. a greek salad has many forms depending on the region. these days tradition is gone with the wind and there are more urban ways of doing things to save on food costs. for instance, adding romaine lettuce to a greek salad has stepped up the volume of the food whilst cutting down on the traditional flavours of the olive and the gorgeous sheep's milk feta cheese.

i'm sorry but if i have to ask for extras, they might as well be on a whopper at the burger king, because that's where you will end up after eating at the broken plate!

going south. we used to be regulars here but the last 2 times have been unpleasant. the oysters were way undercooked one time and the service was poor the second. i think they are trying to just pump through the customers now rather than focus on quality.

lost it's appeal. when broken plate first opened in calgary it was true greek food and reasonably good value. it is now a chain and has lost it's roots and appeal. we went to aspen woods and found the entrees very expensive and not very authentic greek. since when is risotto greek? the meal was just ok. great atmosphere and service though.

it takes waaaaay too long to finish your meal. from ordering to waiting and waiting and waiting for your order to arrive. and the wait is not worth it. food comes in pretentious portions and not memorable. this isn't my favorite greek restaurant.
