good luck finding a better sandwich. four of us had lunch at brick & tin today. i wasn't thrilled with my classic salad--the salads my friends got looked great, though, and they cleaned them up. we ordered the brisket sandwich, desi , and gaucho. we all agreed they were delicious. my brisket was tender and full of flavor--and they don't skimp on the serving size, either. the bread was asgoodas the meat.
i usually skip dessert but i took a bite of the chocolate bread pudding and vanilla (?) bread pudding that my pals ordered. the chocolate bread pudding was okay but that vanilla(?) bread pudding was a real treat. be sure to give that a try. (strangely, the person who actually ordered the bread pudding thought it was just okay.)
parking is a pain (street parking--finding a free meter at lunch time can be a challenge) but the dart goes right by it so "park and ride" is an option.

i wish i lived closer or worked downtown--i'd eat here at least once a week.

wonderful food and attention to detail. i was in a business meeting the other day and lunch was brought in. my sandwich was beef brisket. i bit into and wehnt oh my god, this is the best beef brisket sandwich i have ever had. tender does not begin to describe it. i asked and was told it was from brick & tin. i had eaten dinner there once before and really enjoyed it but for reasons not b&t's fault i just had not been back. so i went to eat lunch at b&t the other day rather than my 'usual" downtown eatery when i do business downtown. i order the beef brisket sandwich again and the butternut squash soup. what was served to me was culinary art. the soup was nothing short of divine with a touch of olive oil swirled on top. i believe they make their own bread but in any event it was delicious and very fresh. the beef brisket was once again perfection and intensely flavorful. as far as attention to detail, my lunch was served on a somewhat rustic but really cool bright red ceramic plate with this unique shaped soup bowl/cup that was mustard color. i appreciated such a presentation for something as simple as a less than ten dollar lunch. i liked the ceramics enough to look them up on the internet which was casa mia. turns out the plate is $40 and so is the soup bowl. $80 of dinnerware for my simple sandwich and soup. that says something to me. attention to detail and presentation. kudos to b&t.

quite nice. i've walked past brick & tin multiple times, always thinking to myself, "man this place looks fancy"... then i went in and was surprised. minimalist decor with a real hearty country/industrial feel, and a menu boasting local produce and fresh made everything.

i ordered the veggie panini with grilled local seasonal veggies (squashes) and a delicious pesto, and had a side of the bean salad with balsamic. first off let me tell you... the bread, oh the bread, how amazing! the perfect crust and a light fluffy inside, drizzled in olive oil combined with the flavors of the grilled veggies and pesto and goat cheese... delicious.
the bean salad wasgoodtoo, very light and crisp, at first i thought it wouldn't be enough, but now 5 minute after eating everything i'm feeling pretty satiated.

i would love to come back and try some of their meaty entrees, if the vegetables and fresh bread are any clue, the meat is going to be amazingly tender and juicy and flavorful.

fantastic food, quick, inexpensive, and delicious. i could probably just eat the bread by itself for days on end.

great downtown spot. been to brick & tin a few times now. such amazing sandwiches. the pea salad is such a perfect side for the hot summer days. i love the space. asked around and it was designed by hendon + huckestein architects, a downtown firm (www.hplusha.com). looking at their website they are also responsible for the o'henry's near the brookwood mall and the tutwiler hotel renovation.gooddesign andgoodfood, cant beat that combo!

well with all the talk of a new place to eat for lunch, i was very excited to try it, at first glance it looks like a pub but once you step in it's a totally different feel, the crowd was mixed with buisness people and the urban hipsters! after waiting ten minutes to place my order, onlyvteo people ahead of me, i ordered the roasted chicken salad sandwich and pea corn and tomato salad. after 17 minutes i finally got my sandwich, i wasgood, not great but good, the salad was okay but lacked flavor. after spending 27 minutes just trying to get my food i had to ear quickly to get back to work! i really hope they the speed things up for lunch, the buisness people need to bet back to work. i just hope they don't cater to the urban hipster snob like several if the other downtown places. i will try it again when they know how to get lunch done in a moderate amount if time! so for the quality of food and the time i waited it's not worth it. it's just ok for me. i wish them luck and hopefully they can get all things out faster seeing they have alot of staff in the kitchen.

slow on second day, but well worth it.. brick & tin is a new restaurant on the increasingly busy north side of town. owner mauricio papapietro touts the place as a "gourmet sandwich" shop; and while that may sound a bit like an oxymoron, the billing is not far off. consider the fact that papapietro did his time under both frank stitt and chris hastings, it should come to no surprise that the product he puts out is nothing short of the highest quality, freshness, and goodness. but with that kind of pedigree, why sandwiches?

for starters, there's enough lunch demand around. bankers, lawyers, and businessmen (and women) of all stripes flock to anything open around there. rather than opening up just a sandwich shop, though, papapietro has brought our city something truly special.

first of all, papapietro and company have done a lot to make this place feel great inside. they took a blight of a building and made it look and feel timeless, classy, and warm. the extremely high ceilings, exposed brick walls, and slightly modern-industrial look make for one of the better atmospheres of any lunch spot in town.

but the atmosphere is only secondary to the really important thing: top-notch food. both the brisket and provence (vegetable) sandwiches were killer. brick & tin uses nothing but locally grown organic produce and meats, and bakes its own bread daily. every bite of the sandwich tastes wholesome and worthy of savoring. it's refreshing to see the local/organic trend catching on in town, and it's a great feeling to feelgoodabout what you're eating--especially when it tastes so dern good. the field pea, sweet corn, and cucumber salad on the side was particularly amazing; it would make a great meal in and of itself.

the only negative was that it was a bit slow for lunch... but seeing as how it was only the second day it was open, the meal and service were generally flawless. brick & tin should operate like a well-oiled machine with time. look for this place to become one of the go-to lunch spots in birmingham.
