good, bad, and ugly. let me start by saying service was great! even though we could hardly hear our hostess (low-talker, not a noisy background), she was extremely polite, as were our server and everyone else who happened by our table to deliver or pick up dishes.
we were given bread with an oil/pesto combo and it was nice, warm, fresh and flavorful. our appetizer, the bang-bang shrimp, was almost addictive. very tasty, succulent shrimp lightly battered and fried, then coated in what tasted like a buttery spicy mayo. not complicated, but i love spicy mayo. and butter. i love butter.
for entrees, i chose the scallops and shrimp with a side of pumpkin ravioli. i chose the lemon butter sauce (you have a choice of 4 sauces for the seafood), as it seemed like it would jive best with the buttery-sage saute described on the ravioli. good choice!!! the seafood was cooked perfectly and were extremely tasty! i'm from the gulf coast, and my expectations are usually quite low when i'm not eating back home (where i get it fresh from the boat), but this was very, very good. however, the plate had this weird side of ratatouille. this was the bad. by itself, it wasn't very good, and it really did nothing for the seafood. fortunately, there wasn't much of it so it didn't overpower anything. the presentation of the plate wasn't particularly appealing, either. but the ravioli, which came on a separate dish, was a very good compliment to the seafood. sadly, we had eaten all of the bread that came earlier, as it would have served well to sop up all that sagey-buttery goodness.
my husband had the fish and chips. the dish (or basket) looked really good with huge fillets of fish. the taste, however, was ugly. it tasted like catfish, and the "fishy", not fresh taste was ultimately inedible. he choked down as much as he could, but left most of it untouched. the tartar sauce was fantastic. the "chips" - plain old fries.
overall, the atmosphere was great. very clean and visually appealing with great service. we'll be back for another try but may stick to the appetizers.
