most amazing wait staff.. i took my partner tobodegafor his birthday on friday and i happened to faint in the bathroom before any of our meals arrived.
i called for a waitress and the attention i received from not only one waitress but all of them was incredible.
they attended to me for 30 mins, ensuring that i was ok, getting me water and jellybeans!
the chefs were kind enough to pack up our food in whatever packaging they could find, ensuring that we didn't miss out on their amazing food.

the kindness of all staff here made a scary experience not too bad.
thank you bodega!! we will be back.

i loved the originalbodegaon mary st. unfortunately the new digs on holt street just don’t have the same feel. communal table, and very dark but so so loud inside. we couldn’t hear each other. food is still great but unfortunately the new place jst doesn’t have the same feel so i probly won’t return.

a solid restaurant if you’re fortunate to ever dine here. the menu here is always changing so it’s hard to talk about a particular dish. i’ve dined here twice and both times the food has always exceeded my expectations. the tapas are all made for sharing, although are quite small, they are packed my bursting flavors! i’m never dissatisfied whenever i visit. the service is quick and attentive. they’ve got a great wine menu as well that i quite enjoy. i will continue to come tobodegaand have recommended this restaurant to friends who have loved it too!

visitedbodegafor dinner on a busy saturday night, do definitely booking before hand as the dining area was very limited on the weekend.
we were seated at the stools right in front of the cooks which was pretty awesome, watching our dishes being cooked and plated up in front of us.
their menu are designed to be shared so we ordered quite a few dishes.
overall, dishes were above average however nothing was really amazing and really stood out though. my favourite dish of the night however was the duck & scallop dish - the duck was cooked so well and was really enjoyable.
the wine list was a little different as the variety were mainly spanish wine.
great dining experience and slightly above average.

bodega has been on my wishlist for some time. i had heard lots of great things and my work colleague suggested we head there for a nice dinner. nestled in surry hills, bodegais a cosy little restaurant. as i want to see all the action, rr and i sit at the bar. bodega's menu is tapas style so everything is designed around sharing food. rr and i look through the menu and ask for some recommendations from the staff......

like other reviewers on this site, i came tobodegawith excited anticipation. the ambience was typical of a surry hills restaurant - too-loud music, random would-be cool and hipster touches, and a similar approach was evident in their food. overwhelming flavours and richness without being satisfying in that soulful way we crave food to be - in other words, we actually ate dumplings when we got home because we weren't psychologically contented in our food. and not because of inadequate portions either - we ordered plenty of dishes.

look, there were some nice things about bodega. the mushroom and lettuce dumplings were pure comfort food and one of the few dishes where our palates did not feel unnecessarily bombarded. the steak tatare was reasonable, though the achiote sauce totally bullied the other ingredients into utter submission. but the roast pork with clams? what the? the individual elements of the dish were quality but taken together it just didn't make any sense, an upper scale equivalent of the bacon flavoured ice cream - quirk alone does not equate to innovation or satisfaction. and the crispy duck was simply none too crispy. the sangria was overpriced and not quite fruity enough we have only praise for the attentive service we received, but at these kinds of prices, we do expect the food to actually taste good too.

i haven’t been tobodegafor around 4 years now, being a family favourite for special occasions. luckily, it was mum’s birthday last week and we definitely needed an excuse to head back here.bodegais nestled in a small alley in surry hills, super close to central station. the décor and feel is very 50s-mod, and has definitely been made a lot lighter and spacier since i was last here. the boys behindbodegaare also the masterminds of porteño and continental deli (so you know it’s good).

the staff are great here.

apologies for the dark photos but it's quite a small restaurant and i didn't want to ruin everyone's evening.

start with thebodegatake on beef tartare - great to have added texture from the plantain chips.

make sure you check out the lamb - it's perfect for sharing.

wine list is pretty much just spanish and south american wine from memory. i don't mind when places do this, but felt there could have been more aussie wines.

great decadent lunch during a busy work day. appreciatedbodegaaccommodating 2 of the 4 having specific dietry requirements which allowed us to still do the set menu. only niggle is i mentioned i felt like churros for dessert and the patronizing reply was "we're way too modern for churros". not sure a talking down was required. overall, great lunch. $460 across 4 people.

i used to work around the corner from bodega, so had known about it for a while but never quite made it there.  m was sceptical about the tapas concept, having sworn off tapas altogether...however i assured himbodegawas from the masters behind porteno, and therefore would be brilliant - and heavily argentinian with no jamon in sight. ... we saw a long line down the footpath - could it really still be line-worthy and in hot demand after several years of operation? turns out, most definitely.

great with allergies. i had dinner here with girlfriends last weekend. i have a wide range of food allergies and intolerances that i advisedbodegaof when booking. on arrival i was provided with an additional hand written menu detailing exactly what i could order, including a couple of options that weren't even on the main menu. food was absolutely delicious. staff were amazing. could not rate my experience more highly.

dinner atbodega... -- the food -- (food comes in sharing plates, photos shows one portion) pork sausage, lettuce cup, pickled carrot, chilli sauce (~$4-5 per portion) pork sausage tastes like spam. the whole group was quite disappointed. this can be made at home with spam. not the type of latin american tapas we were expecting  chargrilled sa calamari, marinated green beans and almond cream ($24) calamari was tender and not overcooked. almond cream was very creamy and goes very well with the calamari. green beans added some texture to the dish. really enjoyed this dish.  pork, octopus, cabbage and green apple salad with jalapeno dressing ($22) the pork was tasty and added a crunch to the salad. the octopus was tender. the jalapeno dressing was not spicy at all. the salad was too sour for my tasting. the combination of each component clashes with each other in my opinion. perhaps trying too hard to be inventive  crispy duck, scallops, chocolate mole, avocado, old bay apple ($28) the crispy duck was little too dry and overcooked. the scallops were paper thin. literally just a 2-3 bite sized slices of avocado. i think each component clashes with each other. better to eat each component separately than together in one bite.  maple sesame beef rib with rice and pickle salad ($26) the pickle salad was both sour and sweet at the same time with no balance. the beef rib was quite tender (encased in the ball). the shell/ ball reminds me of a doughnut glazed in maple syrup. didn't really like this dish we came with high expectations as we all absolutely love their sister restaurant porteno. we would literally like up at porteno for 3 hours for a table as the food there is absolutely divine! however, the food atbodegadefinitely disappointed us. perhaps, they were being a little too creative and inventive. maybe it's just me ... i can't quite appreciate or interpret what they are trying to get across to me or even our table of people. expect to spend a fair bit but not feeli

good food but quite pricey. my cousin came to sydneytown for a workshop and i was organising a dinner to catch up. still new to sydney myself, i foundbodegathrough urbanspoon’s “best tapa’s list.” you can’t book for a table under 6 people so we had to rock up and hope for the best (with 4 people). we were quite lucky. rocking up at 6:30pm, we manage to get a table on the spot, the only catch was that we had to be finished by 8. that was fine we could do dessert elsewhere (: the place was packed, and the dining is quite crammed, the sounds echoed so you had to speak quite loudly across the table. dim lighting and nothing but iphone6, apologising in advance for the not-so-good photos…

i’m sure everyone’s familiar with this situation: a group of friends hanging out, dinner time comes, no one can decide what to have for dinner…and then one person would say, “pick a cuisine!” this was exactly what we did today. we picked  spanish – andbodegacame to mind. luckily, when we rocked up at 7pm-ish on a saturday night, the place was only 3/4 full and we got a table straight away. i was totally blown away by the food. it’s now my favourite spanish restaurant, although the food’s very different than the usual spanish tapas places we have in sydney.   —–her{curio}majesty score sheet —– visited : 11 october 2014 (for dinner). food : 9/10 || ambiance : 9/10 || service : 9/10 what i loved : the food. the service. will i come back : yes.

albeit five years later, with the abundance of good food in sydney, a return visit to any restaurant means that their food during my first visit was so delicious to a point that it was memorable.bodegaoffers inventive and modern tapas inspired by latin american and spanish cuisines. a lot has changed since my first visit but for the better. no longer is the dining room too dark and filled with bar tables and stools; now housing dining tables (at a more comfortable height) and dimly lit but not overly so that i have to bring out my torch to see what i’m consuming. the signature dishes remain the same though, and like last time, we started off with fish fingers ($22). these are not your ordinary fish fingers but consist of hiramasa king fish sashimi , served on charred toast , topped with little cubes of calamari and umami-packed  mojama (salt-cured tuna). i remember the first time i had this, the raw onion taste was overpowering, but i
