good. i've dined here three times and i think i have an accurate impression now. the food is delicious-both breakfast and lunch. the presentation is beautiful, but it is a tad overpriced. it's a nice treat every now and then, though. service can be somewhat "off" sometimes but for the most part everyone is friendly enough. it definitely wouldn't stop me from returning.

blue dog bakery--. i went in there over the weekend and was treated rather poorly. i understand you're busy. but one should receive some acknowledgement- "sir, i'll be with you shorty" or something like that and when i tried to order and had a question they seemed annoyed and took a long time to take my order. my order was wrong and when i called and asked to speak to the manager to tell them about it i was put on hold for a long time. so long in fact, i hung up and called back and they answered! i was again put on hold then they didn't come back. worst customer service ever. full of people who have a bad attitude. if you don't like your job, quit. don't take it out on other people. i do not recommend this place at all.

good but not worth the trips. i have been trying to go to this place for about a year now, and each time i have tried to go they have been closed for renovations (i have probably tried going about 6x in the past year).
with that being said, i was finally able to go. i got the egg and bacon pizza which was very delicious. the food there was very good, but unfortunately i do not think it was worth the trips, so i would say if you want good food try another place instead of taking the chance of this place being closed for renovations!

too busy for customers?. while visiting from out of town i stopped at blue dog after receiving recommendations from two separate locals. it was shortly after 2 pm on a sunny saturday and they were quite busy with other customers waiting. since i was alone i thought i might get the single seat by the window but after waiting 5 mins no one had even acknowledged me. i left and went up the road a few miles to osaka and had some great sushi instead.

great place. i've frequented blue dog for quite a while. i've always had friendly service and great food. the servers have been happy to answer questions and work really hard to bring good service. the local house-cured meats are incredible. and to the person who says they had bad service there on a sunday...blue dog is actually closed on sundays. don't write a nasty review from one bad experience. try it again.

if you dont like crusty artisan bread, stick to wonder bread. yes there most certainly is a fair amount of pretension exhibited by staff that does need to be addressed by management. as a consumer who is ultimately paying the wages of the staff, i feel that a certain amount of common courtesy is owed while patroning an establishment. that being said, the bread is delicious, and for those that have reviewed it as being too crusty on the outside, i suggest you go to your local kroger, pic-pac, pigly-wigly etc. etc. and by a loaf of wonder/bunny bread. there is a reason why bluedog has become nationaly recognized for its artisan bread, which is a little bit different from what we americans have been used to. to say that the bread that is made at this fine artisan bakery is archaic or "old" is an ignorant statement, its a just a different style than that of what the past 5 or 6 generations of americans are used to. my only recommendation to the owners of blue dog is to get a grip on the customer service side of the business, get rid of those employees that display innapropriate attitudes towards those that help pay their bills, other than that, kudos to the chef.

the rudeness factor on behalf of the staff was too much to warrant a return visit. we went on a sunday and i was super jazzed because of the hype that i've heard about this place. we waited an hour for counter seats. we ordered sandwiches--incredibly expensive--and i was very disapointed in the mediocrity. several posts have mentioned the crust/hardness of the bread. it's true, but i am a bread junky so i enjoy the chew of it. i could have just had bread and butter and been happier. um..to go for sure.

a dog of a bakery. first off, i really like their products. they have the best bread in town and really yummy sandwiches. however, their attitude towards their customers is so appalling that it's not even worth the effort to go there anymore.

give it a try. if you are looking for a loaf of sunbeam, then i do not suggest blue dog. however, if you are looking for excellent bread, friendly service, and fantastic breakfast, then you should definitely go here. it is one of my favorite places in louisville by far.

hard, thick-crusted primitive bread. the breads (every one i've ever had from here) are horrendously hard crusted! you are wasting your time, your jaw health, burning excessive calories to chew, and risking losing any dentalwork by trying their breads.
this inferior, primitive bread fad needs to stop.

bdb -- lose the attitude, it doesn't become you. as a transplanted san franciscan from louisville, i have watched (and, on visits, eaten) as louisville has become a restaurant town of very high quality. finally, louisville has bread which competes with acme, semifreddi, and other artisanal breads here, the best of which rival paris's poilane offerings. so this note is to bdb employees: you're selling a nonpareil product, but that doesn't make you cool. you didn't bake the bread-- you're selling it. what would be really cool? for you to create a culture of friendliness and accessibility at the store. i encourage you to get to the next level -- enjoy yourselves at your work, and enjoy your customers. wait staff and counter staff out here do, and they work just as many (if not more) tats and piercings. and to your baker -- your fanatical focus on quality is much admired by this louisville ex-pat-- as are your unbelievable chocolate chip cookies!

first of all, this is one of the finest bakers of bread this side of paris. to compare it to panera bread is just verifying that you've never been anywhere. expensive? yes! excellent? beyond question.

pretentious suburban upper middle class. this is a local equivalent of panera, that caters to those who like to spend excessive amounts of money on "artisan breads." for the rest of you, that means, bread that was hand-made in by artisans, and left out in a basket to gather dust all day. this also means that it's usually tough enough to break dental work, and great to cover in exotically named meats and vegan patés. highly overpriced if you ask me, but their target demographic usually sees all these things as signs of a great place to eat. caveat emptor
