blue crab seafood house

very good restaurant. i drive to victoria in the morning and had breakfast here. it is in a hotel and open early. the crab omelet is very delicious, especially the attractive smell of fried egg. the view is beautiful. theserviceis good. i can rate it 5.

great view, bland lukewarm food.. we received a gift certificate for this place, otherwise we would not have come here to dine. having dined here before and not been impressed, we thought maybe the place has improved, and it has not. the bisque i had as my entree was lukewarm, the oysters were chewy. i had the seafood cioppino as a main dish, and i was not to happy with the sandy clams. the final straw was the totally tasteless dessert, taste and texture was like frozen whip cream, waffles on top were old tasting. we did mention it to the waiter and he suggested another dessert which was ok (no appology).serviceis not personal for the price, food is tasteless and bland, the only good thing is the beautiful view. beware this is just another tourist trap hotel restaurant.

we missed our reservation by 24 hours! can you imagine, we had the wrong day but after phoning to apologize for our mistake they found an early dinner time that we could make and my birthday dinner was saved. thanks chris who made that happen. our waiter mike was great, here when we needed him but otherwise in the background. we had a great view of the harbour and watched float planes land and harbour ferries travelling back and forth. our started was the crab cakes which were yummy and pretty too. i had crab risotto, perfectly done asparagus and peas with the crab. very enjoyable as i ate every last bite. my partner had the lamb, beautifully prepared to a medium rare and placed on a bed of colourful fall vegetables with an au jus drizzled around the plate. we shared the raspberry chocolate torte which is creamy in texture and very rich. a good dish to share easily between tow and probably between 3. great food, greatserviceand fantastic view. we'll be back.

we went to the blue crab to celebrate our fifth anniversary. we were seated by the window that had a beautiful view of the harbour. while the food was good, theservicewas very odd as i felt that the server did her best to try and dissuade from ordering crab, (which seems odd considering it's called the blue crab...) strangeserviceaside, it was a positive experience and i would come back.

i had what had to be the finest meal in the last twenty years. in the end i asked that it be passed on to the chef and staff, that i have cooked for thirty years, in my time prepared meals for/from top shelf people to refugees in bosnia. from the soldier in the field to generals of armies. the meal andservicei received was outstanding to say the lest.

as mentioned in other reviews, theservicewas top notch.
i have celiac and had no gluten issues here. everything was well-labelled on the menu and there were plenty of gluten-free options.
prices were on par with the food quality and the fact that it's mostly seafood. we spent about $150 including drinks, the $105 platter for two, and dessert.
my only complaints were that the crab came out together with the entree (steak with prawns and scallops and veg on a bed of blue crab risotto) and that my steak was undercooked. i actually like it on the rarer side of medium-rare so for me it was fine, but it was definitely rare.
the problem with everything coming out together, which apparently they did on purpose, is that the crab takes a long time to eat. with it being the star of the meal you want to eat it first, but then your steak is cold and your prawns are hard and your risotto is soggy.
the king crab legs were pre-split, in contrast to a previous reviewer's comments, so maybe they've listened and improved that aspect of the meal.
my wife gives special mention to the croissant pudding, she loved it.
it was all delicious, but it could have been amazing. a strong 4 stars.
i would definitely go back, and now i'd know to ask for the crab and entree separate.

so i'll start off by saying that it's very rare for me to tip more than 20%. in fact, i think it's only happened twice before tonight. glen was by far one of the best waiters i have ever had. he made us feel so comfortable and was extremely helpful and kind. kutos to fantastic service. the food was good - it wasn't mind blowing, but it was all good. and unlike o'bistro (where i just had cocktails last weekend) this bar actually put booze in our drinks. i will absolutely go back.


i went back to blue crab this weekend (may 2017) and wanted to re-review it.  again theservicewas spectacular, but i find the prices a bit out of control....the wine is also over priced and again, nothing blew me away. the worst part is that everyone's side dishes (risotto and the israeli couscous) were all infused with rosemary which none of us like.  if you're not a huge fan of rosemary, do yourself a favour and mention it before ordering - this isn't just a sprig you can remove...it's everywhere and there's tons of it.

absolutely fantastic!! we went at night and had a beautiful view, theserviceis a+, and the crab was amazing! there was nothing i could criticize from our experience. it was pouring out when we left and they even offer to give us a ride back to our hotel in their hotel shuttle (which we gladly accepted)!

dine around-lovely. had a very nice meal during this year's dine around at the blue crab. theservicewas great. quality of food very nice! i expected more from my chocolate lover's dessert, but it was ok. great value for $30. the view was outstanding. this restaurant never disappoints.

my wife and i came in from portland, oregon on a mini vacation.
on fathers day... we wanted to go somewhere very special and because of the reviews on trip advisor... we thought this was the place...not really!
it does have a great harbor view, but other than that it brought very little to the table.
it is in the coast hotel, which looks like a nice hotel. but this restaurant was just a very typical hotel dining room.
here is a list of our experience, and believe me i am not a whiner!
1) my seat had bread crumbs all over it.
2) martini was warm
3) wine pour was small & very expensive
4) bread was cold (nice places at least warm the bread)
5)servicewas slow, but did get a little better
6) very noisy
the food was okay to good, but so many other obstacles turned us off...
i will go spend my very hard earned american after tax dollars... elsewhere!

mediocre.servicewas odd. waiter wasn't sure of prices for 'market price' items, slow at times, food was good, but they sat us in the very back. we later noticed a couple who arrived after us was served sooner. over priced as well. also disappointed in the lack of local brews. "we have a lager and an ale". :)

halibut is good. had the halibut and chips - which was good. great friendlyserviceand good selection of wine. i recommend.
