ended up here and it was a disappointment. our server was not busy but took forever to get things and didn't know the menu. i order the carne asada sole. it was edible but poor quality and really lacking in flavor. the house salsa appeared to be pace salsa with red onions. cheese sauce was also lacking. my fiancé ordered the tacos with "pork skin" and cabbage. he barely touched it and got food elsewhere. this was unfried pig skin that was like nothing we had ever seen. it's not a good sign when it takes five minutes of discussion to tell you what it is. it was a jiggling heap of spiraled
fleshiness.the tacos we were filled with a tablespoon of potatoes. i'm surprised by so many good reviews. ilovepasole, but we won't be going back.

i'll admit this is not for everyone. this definitely is not tex-mex. if you like ground beef in your tacos and enchiladas, don't stop here. this is home cooking mexico style. i eat here once a week. ilovethe service and the menu. explore the menu! everything is good.
the poor ratings have to be from those who think el chico is mexican food. shame on you!
the price is right!

great mexican food served here!!!!. me and my wifelovethis place. we come here frequently and enjoy the food. my wife loves the tortas de juevo, iloveeverything else. we have tried everything on the menu. this is authentic mexican food, not tex-mex. you won't find fajitas or chimichanga's here. well at least, i didn't.

superb food served with a smile. had a wonderful meal there this afternoon!

we'd been talking about trying birrieria diaz for some time now, but have been too busy to stop by.

well, today, we finally made it.

amazingly large portions of home-cooked food!

we had ceviche de pescado, fried nopales (cactus shoots), and lamb birria -- a virtual feast for just under twenty bucks for two people.

¡muy delicioso!. hot, fresh and authentic birria. (if you haven't tried this jalsciense specialty, you really should.)

wide selection of condiments and toppings, and very reasonable prices.

only downside(s)? well, a) it's in bethany (yikes!) and b) the corner location makes it difficult to park, particularly if you're on your lunch hour.

i'm so happy that we finally have a birrieria in the metro area, and that it's an exceptionally fine one, at that!

¡qué rico!. i was raised on authentic mexican food and this place is legit. i ordered the posole verde. it was just as good as my aunt's posole who lives in mexico city. i did add some lime to my posole. ilovelime on most of my mexican food. i also had a ceviche tostada. ¡delicioso! i will go again.

not for me. ilovetraditional mexcan. iloveeverthing about it. but i did not like this place. the salsa is watery. the birrieria was watery and flavorless!!!!! yeah, its nice you get onions and radishes,and blah, blah, blah. but who cares. it was so bland that i almost got mad! i tried my kids' dishes. dry, dry, dry tamales. my kid had to slather beans over it just to choke it down. my son's beef enchilldas were just ok. not good, not bad. i will never go back.

fried potato tacos yum!. family owned who are from my home state of california. this is not tex/mex but they will service queso. the warn chips and great salsa. i loved the fried potato tacos and excellent homemade tamales. excellent birria which is a spicy mexican meat stew , iloveeating with hot flour tortillas. i so happy the open all week mon – fri 9am to 10pm and sat & sun 8am to 10pm.

delicious!!!. this little place is a hidden gem! on our second visit, i ordered the soup- posole verde. it was outstanding! my husband ordered tacos and devoured them. ilovethe six+ sides of various salsas, vegetables and limes which accompany the orders. to drink, try the horchata, a deliciously sweet and refreshing rice milk, flavored with vanilla and cinnamon. you will not be disappointed by this place. great prices, as well!

viva!. welovebirrieria diaz! we eat there at least twice a week. the pork tamales are the best. they're huge and filled with lean meat. the flavor of these tamales is excellent. the posole is also good. a little spicey and lots of lean meat. my husband always gets the beef birrieria, but lately has had to take it home since he usually fills up on the beef tacos. you've got to ask for a side of their rice and beans....so good!! birrieria is a family-owned restaurant. the father's name is juan and the last time we ate there, he brought out a couple of small dishes he made for us to try. one was an spicey egg dish and the other was a bowl of boracho beans. seriously good. can't wait to go back to see what else juan will have.

p.s. the food from birrieria is more authentic than what most people are accustom to. this is not a typical tex-mex restaurant. it's always good to try something new....you might be surprised.

excellent!. i've been there twice (both in the last week), and it's really good. the staff and service are excellent and the prices are very reasonable.lovethe salsa and condiments, the cheese sauce is a bit bland but salt takes care of that. like many, i tried the sheep stew stuff and loved it, also have had the tamales and tacos and it's all good.

i had the sheep birria, and my children each had tacos, 2 tacos de lengua and 2 asada tacos. the birria was good, if not just a little bland. just needed some salt. the condiments that are provided for the birria are great except the red onion and habanero mix that i got looked a bit old. i've worked in the food biz and i could recognize these were old onions. ilovehot food, but i passed on those.
the tacos de lengua were good, as were the asada tacos.
i got 6 tamales to go and they were very big and pretty darn good.
salsa was okay. service spectacular. clean restaurant.

yum! iloveeverything i've eaten here. and spicy!

very pleased so far. just wish they weren't always out of cabesa.

absolutely awesome!!. my wife and i consider ourselves to be mexican food enthusiasts. tried this place today and have fallen inlovehook, line, and sinker!

i agree that the parking is not the best, but once inside you will forget about parking.

this is authentic, not texmex! they don't have any queso. the menu is rather small, but everything was great!! i recommend the birreiria special. it comes in beef or sheep. if you have never tried it, have them mix the two. it is out of this world!

try it and i would almost bet the farm that you will like it! staff is very friendly. family owned and operated and they believe in real authentic food.
