billy's

tried out the newly reopened billy's on saturday. only open four days and it is going to be a roanoke favorite. our party of 4 started with the grilled oyster appetizer and they were delicious, moist, tender and full of flavor. i had shrimp and grits, one of mt personal favorites. the grits were cooked with cheddar cheese and ham. the shrimp were perfectly cooked. others had blackened grouper and the grilled mahi mahi which was as good as my entree. the service was great; friendly and attentive but not intrusive. the remodeled restaurant is beautiful. it is obvious the owners spared no expense! the prices are very reasonable - cocktails, appetizers, entrees and dessert for 2 for less than $70.00!

staying in a different part of town this week. really glad i did. as it gave me a chance to try this place.

to start....get the caesar salad!  man oh man. i hate to act like i have never had one before but honestly the dressing on this small salad is absolutely awesome!  i have never had one that i could actually discern the presence of an acid in the dressing. most likely lemon but i cant swear to it. just delicious.

i had the shrimp piccata for my entrée. (pictured) again the sauce on this dish is very, very good. spinach, capers and grape tomatoes! the shrimp was prepared so well. not at all rubbery and deveined well. 
i saw several other entrée items that will drive me back for another visit soon.

service was great and very prompt/ courteous.

i had an outstanding dinner at billy's. the prime rib was cooked just right. the side of smashed potatoes and vegetable medley was very good. the music in the restaurant is very nice. the ambiance was perfect.

eh.... my husband and i went here for a friend's birthday dinner. it wasn't bad, but it was pretty unremarkable. i had a caesar salad and the dressing was overly sweet. caesar dressing shouldn't be sweet! my pasta special was very cheesy, and while i like cheese it was a little much, plus i ended up with a big chunk of crab meat in my chicken pasta dish, and while i didn't mind it could have been incredibly dangerous to someone with a shellfish allergy. my husband had the crab cakes and the guacamole appetizer and was unimpressed by both. the service was good, though. i wouldn't avoid this restaurant but i wouldn't seek it out, either.

shrimp and grits delicious. first time at billy's. i think it was very good. i recommend the shrimp and grits as that is what i had and it was so good!

i like billy's. attentive service, good food and drinks. we go there often. unfortunately the last 2 times we have been there for dinner the bar (which is a part of dining room) was so loud that table conversation was difficult at best. it's a good place but they need to do something about the bar noise.

very high end. we were downtown and happened upon this place. we went inside wearing jeans and a sweatshirt as it was chilly outside. atmosphere is very high class. our server knew that we were not ordering the expensive bottle of wine and kinda payed us no attention, wasn't able to recommend a good dish. appeared that everyone else there was dressed up very well and getting off from work. food quality is so so, nothing about the meal impressed me. we were going to go for dessert and were simply presented with the check and never offered dessert as an option. more than likely my first and last time there.

dined there recently. the grilled oysters were a bit salty. the shrimp and grits were superb....flavorful and not too heavy. the lemon cake was light and refreshing. my wife's lamb chops weren't the best (way too fatty). service was very prompt and attentive. overall a solid dining choice but perhaps a tad overpriced.

i dined at billy's earlier this evening, and i must say dinner was absolutely delicious! from the moment we walked in the door, we felt welcomed by the beautiful ladies up front. we sat by the window which made our experience even more enjoyable. our server was very knowledgable regarding the menu and helped us choose the perfect dinner! i had the new lamb chop lollipops & my husband had the famous crab cakes which are always to die for. i would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for an enjoyable dining experience. it's the best place roanoke has to offer in my opinion and i can't wait to return!

best dining experience i've ever had. last saturday my family and i dined at billy's and our experience was nothing short of amazing. from the moment we walked in the door we felt so incredibly welcomed. our service was absolutely phenomenal. our servers were extremely quick and efficient with our orders and could have not been nicer. the food was outstanding as well, especially the lamb chop lollipops. the restaurants manager colin also checked on our table to make sure our experience was up to par which we truly appreciated. billy's is undoubtedly the best dining establishment my family and i have ever experienced and look forward to our next visit.

if you're looking for great atmosphere, excellent service and superb food then billy's is the place for you. the lamb chop lollipops are to die for!!

i have eaten at billy's a handful of times now and after tonight was compelled to write a review. i was thrown by the entrance being moved from the corner to the side but after walking in and being greeted so warmly i quickly got over the change in door location. the atmosphere is relaxed but not to the point where i feel like i could take my shoes off. the servers i have experienced have been very informative, knowledgable, and attentive. on a couple occasions the managers have personally come to check on me which really made me feel as though they wanted me there and genuinly cared about my experience at billys. now for the food... billy's by far has the best burger in town (in my opinion). i have even ordered a burger to go and it was ready and still hot by the time i arrived to pick it up. one of my favorite things about billy's is the fact that this restaurant also has night life... 3 bars to be exact. the courtyard is absolutely beautiful, especially at night. it has its own bar and it is unique because it is not on the street like most of downtown roanokes outdoor seating. overall i am just so highly impressed by the excellent service, delicious food, and comfortable atmosphere that i felt the need to share.

"i recently had a special event held at billy's and it was wonderful. the ambiance, food, and staff were excellent. the staff went above and beyond to be accommodate our needs and requests. our guests were very pleased with their service and friendliness; as well as, the food was full of flavor and savory. i would highly recommend hosting any special events at billy's or for casual dining. you will not be disappointed."

dad2-4daughters. we ate at billy's for lunch today. we found the staff to be very accommodating and the food was incredible. definitely will be returning since it's very difficult to find a restaurant that is liked by all 6 members of our family. they seemed to have something for everybody to eat.

the friendliness of the host staff leaves much to be desired. the waitstaff is nice though and their wine list is vast (though i wished they offered more by the glass). we sat out in the courtyard which was fabulous. my lettuce wraps were okay, not great not terrible. my friend had jerk chicken and really enjoyed it.
