first impression from the outside was "should we go in there?". it's definetly a dive. once inside though we felt right at home. the bartenders and waitstaff were great. this is a pittsburgh place for sure. we got the homemade gnocchi, which were good and the sauce was great. we also got the two bill sandwich. we heard it was their specialty. it was huge and pretty good too. as new residents of greenfield we will definitley be going back.

are you jimmin'?. i've been going to big jim's for about a decade. this place is one of my favorites - the drinks and the food are cheap, and the service is...unique. the servers are always fun, but i do miss danny. he was a great waiter. amanda is my current favorite. they make a surprisingly good bloody mary, all drinks usually favor a heavy pour, and the food! oh, the food. i'm a big fan of the delicious shoestring gravy fries, the fish sandwich, and the gigantic veal parm sandwich. big jim's is a great place to come and have fun with friends, and as long as you give them plenty of warning, they can accomodate larger groups.

relax. big jim's is a good option assuming you have some extra time to eat. i went last night w/ some family- i really enjoyed it with only 2 complaints; first, the food does take quite a long time, second part of the order was wrong. i had the "two-bill sandwich" it was great. my cousin had the italian hoagie- he is a "pittsburghan" and said both sandwiches were great! his fiance had "big jim's calzone", and they didn't lie it is big. we split an order of onion rings to start, they were good- would have benefitted from a dipping sauce in my opinion. the service was "okay" not great but not horrible. the prices were good, it is in a great local neighborhood- close to pnc (we were on the way to the pirates game). i would go back- hope you enjoy.

i know what you are thinking, big jim sure has a beautiful smile. but you are incorrect, that is just my friend michael. michael made the fantastic decision to order big jim's calzone. the menu actually suggests that you call ahead as it takes them 45 minutes to bake this big daddy. the big jim comes with ham, salami, capicola, onions, pepperoni, green peps, mushrooms and provolone. the size of the beast reminded me of a terrible moby dick themed opera i saw earlier this year. at $13.99, the big jim could be one of the best deals in the city.

1st time here, friday night pens playoff game pretty busy got seated with 15mins. staff was super friendly as well as the customers seated around us. i got the chicken parmesan that was enormous and delicious. the marinara was obviously homemade and tasted perfect. the wife got gnocchi with meat sauce. again homemade sauce and great taste. the gnocchi were definitely homemade and practically melt in your mouth. there was so much on the menu that we want to try, we will definitely be back for more! foodfather approved!!!

finally got to make it to big jim's last night (prior to playing in the pittsburgh pinball league).  first thing i did was order a pizza to go (anchovies and hot peppers).  the only items keeping me from rating big jim's a "5" stem from the pizza. firstly, i distinctly ordered the small, 4 cut pizza. i ended up with a pizza that i will probably still be eating from as i light the grill this coming july 4th. no biggie, but i ordered a small and got ginormous.  now, granted, the pizza is really good, but there was a flub up in my order.  secondly, i do not consider "banana peppers" as "hot peppers".  still, overall, that was a very, very good pizza that i would try again.  the antipasto salad was amazing! i know people that would balk at the $10.59 price on it. yes, that does seem high priced...until it gets to your table! then is when you realize that this should be a $15.99 salad!  the onion rings did not appear to be battered in-house, but i have never let that come against me and a good onion ring (which this was). oh, and the waitress. she was an eight...

i've been to big jim's many times and it never disappoints. you can either eat in the bar area, or the side room. i've seen families with kids, so that's no problem. to be clear, this is a unfancy bar that sells great food. they have a pretty big menu with bar type finger foods, sandwiches, soups and full entrees. the portions are large and the prices extremely fair. everything i've had is good. on my latest visit i had the two bill sandwich - i've had it before and it's always good. grilled marble rye with corned beef, swiss, coleslaw and a fried egg in between. it's a great sandwich. also had good old fashioned breaded mushrooms and homemade weddings ng soup. this place is a sure bet for casual food and a beer. totally recommend.

wonderful restaurant. we ate at big jim's 1/30/2015. three of us had the 10 oz. steak. best flavorful, tender steak we have ever had. my husband had the sausage and really liked it. service was excellent. the dinner salad was huge and very fresh vegetables. the place was packed, they sure are doing something right! we will absolutely go back. supporting locally own businesses is a great feeling. gary - jenny wescoat keith will be back for good food!

i used to live up the street, so i would get their awesome calzones and pretty decent fish sandwiches. recently, decided to get a fish sandwich to go. started eating when i got home and it was a disgusting, undercooked mess. i was so disappointed that i haven't been back since. i don't want this one experience to dissuade others to try big jim's food, but in a city with so many great restaurants, one slip up can cost you a long time customer.

you will not be disappointed by the size of your meal. i recommend waiting 45 minutes for the calzone that is the size of the table. or the open faced roast beef with gravy covered fries.
