my spouse and i have to visit this place periodically. they are consistent in their cooking and service which i'm really happy with. the servers are relaxed which adds to the great comfy atmosphere.

our go to dishes: soft shell crab club, bison burger and the steelhead trout burger, mussels steamed with white wine/curry sauce.
from the burger to the fries, each item on your dish is made with consideration and care.  their unique addition of house made sauces, home made ketchup with your fries, or their stone fruit relish on the bison burger, differentiates them from other restaurants.

i've never been disappointed here!

finally stopped in for a late brunch. it was 1:30 and we were seated promptly. i ordered the eggs benny w/ bison short rib and my date had the benny with smoke sturgeon. it was tough to choose. besides what they have on the menu, they also have a feature menu. when our food arrived it smelled and looked delicious. no complaints! the smoked sturgeon i tried off my friends plate was rich in flavor and something i'll have to consider for next time which will be soon considering they also take reservations so no waiting for 45 minutes like the folks down the street. when the bill arrived, it was quite reasonable. $30 plus tip for the 2 plates and 2 cups of tea. i highly recommend this restaurant and plan on coming back to try dinner soon!

very fine seafood restaurant in - of all places! - beef-centric calgary.

the monday oyster special (buy a dozen, get a dozen free) was good value for money.  would have liked more choice of oysters and grated horseradish as a garnish, but otherwise an excellent appetizer for 4 people.  we then had very nice main dishes.  everything was fresh and tasty.  does the kitchen get a shipment flown in every day from both coasts?

nice craft beer selection and wines by the glass.

pleasant ambiance and service.  a rather overwhelming odour of fried fish from the open kitchen, so choose where you sit if this aroma bothers you.

there's a byow without corkage fee (!) on wednesdays, a sunday family-style paella, and a monthly featured national menu.  check their website for dates and details.

all in all, a superior seafood restaurant.

great service and atmosphere for brunch! eggs benny was well cooked and there was a lot of spare rib on the muffin. perhaps a bit more hash next time? the scones from sidewalk were bang on and they give you a slice of sourdough on the side as well! bonus!
thanks

i took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner last night, everything about the experience was amazing!!!  i had even dragged along my teenage daughter who is not a big fan of fish or seafood and she loved her dinner.  the wait staff was quick and friendly.  our server greg was knowledgeable and informative.  the food was divine.  i wanted to visit with the chief and learn how to make the dishes we ate!

i highly recommend this place - the food is not cheap but its worth every penny.  we will be going there again for sure.

try this delicious food, big fish will not dissapoint.
the moment you sit down in the restaurant it is a pleasant atmosphere. the staff are so kind and curtious waiting on you as if you are the only ones in the restaurant.

the food is really good as well. the mussels in particular are well worth the trip on thier own. the short ribs are one of my many favorites here, fall off the bone tender.

extremely satisfied with the overal expierence at big fish. i will definetly make another trip back!

i've been to big fish a couple of times before, it's been a while since the last visit. i had my expectations high as the last time was wonderful, started with a dozen oysters. the ponzu accompaniment wasy favorite. but, each oyster had tons of shell in it, it was not enjoyable, frankly it might have turned me off oyster all together. the seafood platter was amazing!! especially the smoked tomato chutney. i ordered the lamb and lobster burger, it was delicious as i could tell the burger was cooked on a flat top, it had a nice crust. the lobster claw proved to be unnecessary as the cambrizola cheese was too powerful, although very tasty. the butter lettuce salad was disappointing, presented sloppy, and the raw grapefruit peel....so bitter and gross. very little crab. what happened to you big fish? i miss your old self

far and away one of my favourite restaurants in calgary. the food is always fresh tasting, flavourful and creative, and the atmosphere and service are top notch. i have been over a dozen times, and never have i been disappointed. i'm really surprised by the bad reviews! some have complained that it is not kid friendly (which it actually is), but i'm okay with that! there are plenty of diners along edmonton trail that are, and i'm perrrrfectly happy to keep this quiet space targeting the +18 crowd!

i decided since i've watched "you gotta eat here" as well as heard some rave reviews on this place i would give it a shot for my girlfriends birthday. service was great friendly waitress food was amazing except for my main we started with the fish tacos and for our mains my girlfriend got the swordfish and i went with the lamb and lobster burger. so here's where it all went downhill very fast no being a seafood resteraunt i hold them in a much higher regard then say a mcdonalds in food quality when i tried my lamb and lobster it tasted very weird and this being the first time i tried lobster my gf said i must not like the taste of it unfortunately it was tainted lobster and here i sit 3 days later with one of the worst food poisonings in my life i will never go back there and i hope they read this so they understand when dealing with seafood they need to be more deligent about expire dates etc...

its unpretentious, and honestly simply done and well executed seafood.  chef chef and co-owner dwayne ennest flies around the kitchen making all the food magic happen.  all their seafood options are sustainable seafood as fish is a member of vancouver aquarium's oceanwise program, although with some advanced notice, vegetarian options can be made as well. love the cute whimsical signage out front! the restaurant has a rustic, homey feel with rough open beam ceilings, cozy dining area, vintage industrial lights, a great open kitchen you can "chef-watch".. and a red herring? lol! ;d the open kitchen ties in nicely with the bar, where you can try some cocktails, or wines to pair with the seafood dishes on the menu. since it was pretty early for booze, we had a round of freshly squeezed lemonade around the table - refreshing! the food the  panko crusted steelhead trout burger with butter lettuce and saskatoon bbq sauce  was a winner. a nice crunch from the seasoned panko, tender moist and flavorful steelhead trout (almost tastes like a lean cut of salmon) pairs well with the sweet-tartness smokiness of the saskatoon bbq sauce the potatos were delicious too, but the star of the plate was the burger.. nom! the  wild mushroom, truffle, basil and white cheddar scramble on noble duck confit hash  looked deceivingly plain.  its not. it will blow your mind with the delicious bits of wild mushroom, cheddar and confit duck hidden within the hash that's hiding under a blanket of fluffy scrambled eggs. after trying one of their bison chorizo  sausages (made in town), we ordered a few more as they had a wonderful snap as you bite into the juicy and lean mildly spicy sausage grilled to perfection. nom! a few around our table went with the  eggs benedict

east coast flavour in the west. visited big fish for a feed of oysters with a friend from pei and was not disappointed. a great variety of fresh oysters were available. we started with an outstanding serving of duck and seafood chowder. andy's suggestion on the wine pairing was spot on. will visit again very soon!
