first burger in greensboro. don't let the location deceive you, thisplaceis awesome. it's located in a gas station, or i guess you could say connected to one. i ordered the backyard bbq burger and a side a sweet potato waffle fries. the burger was grilled perfectly and was nicely seasoned. the bbq sauce was tangy and complimented the bacon and crispy onions. the fries were also delicious, they make a homemade sweet sauce that tastes like liquid apple pie. i will definitely be back, and often.

thisplacehas the best burgers ever! it's a dive -- not fancy but the food is shockingly good. i like their burgers and brioche buns better than hops. the pimiento cheese is delicious and made from scratch. the spinach salad is really good and large enough for two people to split. the battleground location has a cute outdoor area that is dog friendly and features a mural of customer's dogs. so cute! i wish both locations had an outdoor section/dog spot.

decent but irritating. overall, the bbs produces some pretty straightforward, unassuming american fare -- mostly burgers, fries, and shakes, with a spattering of other sandwich options. this they do okay. not great, and not bad. but honestly, the wendy's down the street does burgers not great and not bad, either. bbs is only marginally better, and with prices in the range of $6-8 for a burger (not including fries, etc. if you want them), i've always left feeling a bit put out.

so here's what i do like about bbs: their brioche buns are good, much better than any old white bread bun you'd find at a typical backyard cookout and better than a fast food bun, for sure; also, their fries, while distinctly overpriced in my opinion, can be good; and lastly, i've also had a tasty banana milkshake there.

a myriad of irritations will keep my from returning, though. i don't know what it is about burger restaurants in greensboro and having terrible parking, but bbs is no exception from the theme. bbs on battleground is located adjacent to a gas station, and the shared parking lot is quite frequently an annoyance. the seating inside the restaurant is generally cramped, and theplacewas loaded with flies last time i went. the food itself is kind of mediocre, and particularly the burgers, sadly. from the way their burgers taste, i'd bet they don't add any salt to the ground beef before they form the burgers, and what you get is dry patties lacking succulence. of course, that every burger i've had there is cooked to well done (including ones i've asked for rare), doesn't help. certainly not what i was hoping to get out of a burger that cost $7.

horrible!!!!. i kept hearing how great thisplaceis so i finally decided to give it a try. i love a good burger joint but this was absolutely horrible. the burger tastes tainted and old and the cheese was like glue. way too much mustard and may, which can be scrapped off if the burger is decent. i've honestlt had better burgers at mcdonalds and that's saying a lot.

great burger joint, vegetarian friendly. my friend and i tried them for the first time. we got their "almost" size, which is the smaller size, but is about right for a regular burger. the angus beef is about on par with 'five guys', but they put it on a potato bun which took it over the top. they also offer two different homemade vegetarian patties, either black bean or chick pea. we went with the chick pea and chose the mushroom swiss topping. the patty itself has a good savory flavor and it paired very well with the toppings. we also ordered their cheese fries. be warned, the menu lists them as covered in melted aged cheddar, but it's a cheddar sauce. they switched it out for shredded cheddar after we spoke up, but if, like me, you can't stand the mucus-like texture of cheese sauce, make sure to specify you want the shredded cheddar or you'll be in for an unpleasant surprise. the pricing seemed a little high until we saw the portions, as the large cheddar fry is 6.99, but what you get could easily be shared between four or five people. don't let the fact that it's attached to a gas station convenience store scare you off, thisplaceis a great find and we will be back.

didn't get what i ordered. i will admit the burger was good thisplacewas recommended by a co-worker. unfortunately i never got the garlic pesto fries i had ordered. i was told someone would bring them out and they never did. they did refund the money since i had no more time to wait. i guess they have a hard time multi tasking and they weren't even that busy.

thisplacewas a pleasant surprise. i was worried when i saw it shared a building with a gas station, but my fears were unnecessary. burgers were great, and filling for such low prices. their variety is impressive. next time i will be trying the fries. the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was fun. highly recommended.

burger spot = cool spot......... as a fan of mom-and-pop eateries and small places with a big food presence, the burger spot not only warms the cockles of my heart but amazes me on nearly every visit. we were patrons of the previous restaurant in this unlikely location and became curious when a new sign was erected a few months ago. much to our delight, it was so much more than we expected - but certainly hoped for.
where to start? obviously the burgers. as a fan of burgers at several greensboro locations (fisher grill, emma keys, etc.), i will say without hesitation that these are the best in town. excellent ingredients (angus beef), perfect preparation (be not afraid!! get it the way they wish to serve it: medium), and tasty accoutrements. you will have many options for burger choices (fixed combinations of ingredients or your call) so just go for one and dive in - you will be making many return visits to try all the others.
the fries are topnotch - nice bit of crisp, soft interior, goldilocks size (not too big, not too small), and with flavor options which will impress for aplaceof any size. in particular the fries with truffle oil will make you quietly cry as you are overwhelmed by the musky infusion, while the pesto/aoili ones will bring uncontrollable smiles to your face during your entire dinner.
as far as other items go, here's a quick overview:
a) salads are unexpected for a burger joint but i sometimes come here just to get one. beautiful versions of cobb, garden, and greek.
b) above and beyond the call of duty for a burgerplaceis the smoked pork and smoked brisket sandwiches. i have many of these types from around the country and have rarely been as impressed as these versions.
c) grilled chicken clucked its way deep into my heart, soups were like mom's.

as i understand it (and have tasted so far), everything on the menu is made in house: hummus, dressings, slaw, etc. this is one of the holy trinity for a restaurant's success..................okay you want to know: in-house prep, skill, fresh ingredients. all the rest is marketing. i could talk about the decor, the ambience, the new outdoor picnic area and mural, but really, do you care?! i'd eat sitting on the hood of my car if more places cared served food as skillfuly prepared and fairly priced as this.
get yourself to the (now called) big burger spot and support a great addition to the local cuisine.

burgers are the prize. we had a chance to stop in this new burgerplacetoday for lunch. this is a smallplacenext to a convienience store - location was the previous home of new york deli and then a hot dog joint. they have upfitted it nicely with a bright, colorful interior.

the menu is rather broad for such a small place, but it basically is a burger joint with a large number of toppings, and an equally large number of specialty fries. in addition, they have hot dog choices, a children's menu, several salads, and a few appetizers. they offer specialty sandwiches like smoked corn beef brisket (goes for $7.99), grilled chicken breast, blt, pimento cheese blt, and bratwurst.

the burgers are cooked to order, so this is semi-fast food. their burger are angus beef, and are pretty darn tasty. they are served on a toasted brioche bun, which is not my personal favorite, but it only detracts a little from the overall burger experience. the burgers come in two sizes, big or almost big, prices start at $4.49, and climb to $7.49 for the pimento cheese burger. premium toppings are $1.00 each.

the hot dog is not one i care for - the chili tastes way too much of tomato, and is served on a potato bun, again not a personal favorite. the chili is also on the carolina burger, which i also tried, but again the chili was not to my liking.

the burger alone is worth a visit here, and i want to try some other sandwiches and their fries. the folks here are friendly and efficient.
