dont waste your money here. horrible ! just eat at little richard's and save your money!
since my husband and i moved here, we've been trying all the different bbq places ( we are huge bbq fans ). we hit up this place last night, and were severely disappointed.
1) i got the pulled pork and he got the pork andbrisketcombo, since they came so highly recommended. our minimal portions of pork was mostly all fat and his had several pieces of bone !!! he declared thebrisketmerely okay.
2) the beans were bland and cold and his mac n' cheese was overdone and flavorless. the coleslaw tasted no different than the tub of it u can get in ur grocery store.
3) the only appetizing things were the hushpuppies, but hardly worth mentioning unless u pay yet more for a side order of them because you only get 3 with your meal. the 2 sauce choices were good, but nothing to set it apart from any other nc bbq joint.
4) you don't get as much food for you buck as you would with better bbq places.

we would have tried the desserts, but at this point we had lost all appetite for it, and could not finish out meals as it was. our tummies have been upset this whole night since we've eaten there. the dining area was large, but used to be a auto-repair place or something ( they didnt even change the floors ) so its really loud and echoey and didn't have a cozy feel at all - felt more like a loud cafeteria with bad flooring.
just eat at little richard's !

where's the smoke?????. we had a basketball tournament this past weekend and we found ourselves at bib's for the team dinner on satruday night. i loved the atmosphere and the very nice gentleman that was in the corner playing the guitar who interacted with our ball girls, they had a blast! the food however in my opinion, was lacking a lot, especially smoke flavor. i detected none. i had thebrisketand it tasted just like a roast that had been cooked in a croc pot.....the cole slaw was inedible and the mac and cheese looked and tasted like it had potential but it was cold. the hushpuppies are by far the best thing on the plate. i also hate going to a place that specialized in bbq and is stingy with their sauce......please do not make me have to ask for sauce and only bring me a few teaspoons in a plastic container with a lid......it sure was not award winning. i definately would not visit here again if another opportunity arrises to be in winston salem.

the meats were juicy, and the sausage had a nice smoky flavor. thebrisketcould have done with more seasoning, and the watery sauces (of which there were only two) did little to remedy that. among the sides, the red slaw balanced sweet and vinegary while the hush puppies (an odd ball-shaped variant with delicious black pepper notes) were well above average. the mac and cheese, on the other hand, was creamy but quite bland.

i'm not sure what the hype is about. this place is just ok. thebrisketwas alright, pulled pork was good, mac n cheese was horrible, hush puppies were great. a little too expensive for what you get.

not my choice for bbq. while in the area on business today, we decided to revisit this popular downtown bbq eatery to see if we felt any different about the smoked meats and such served here - and we found that our original opinions were basically unchanged - the the vast majority of the food here is just not to our liking, especially at these prices.

we ordered the beefbrisketplate ($8.95) and a 2 meat combo of pulled pork & smoked sausage ($13.95). sides with these 2 entrees were red slaw, white slaw, collards, and a side salad, and each plate comes with hush puppies.

the pulled pork is served unsauced, and the taste was simply not fresh - this meat was not freshly cooked. neither of the sauces on the table over came this problem. the red slaw was a rather nice version, the taste is relatively mild, but the quantity is small. the smoked sausage was quite nice - a full link, moist, and with a full smoky taste.

thebrisketwas tender, but not mushy as on our first visit, but it is bland tasting, and rather dry. neither of the table sauces (spicy or semi-sweet) did much to enhance the flavor, though they did help with the dryness. the white slaw is a very dry slaw, but not without some flavor.

the hush puppies are crusty, very dark (cooking time?), and have a taste we don't care for in this traditional item - sage i would guess. the collards were nice, with some really nice heat, though the vinegar that was brought for this came in small, commercial packages. the service was excellent, the time out of the kitchen for the order was reasonable.

bottom line for us: after 2 visits, four meals (averaging about $14 each with drink & tax for lunch) this is not a place for us. obviously, others here like it, and like it very much - we're just not in that group.

fast food barbecue train wreck. well, i guess i am now officially not abrisketkinda guy - at least not of mostbrisketcooked in this state. what i attempted to eat here today was 2 thin slices of soggy mess with charred ends that had neither texture or taste. and it is not that i haven't eaten brisket, i have quite often, including in texas, where it approaches an art form - this is just not good brisket, regardless of where or how it was prepared.

the beans are a strange mixture of of 4 different kinds of beans, onion, tomato, and a meaty substance, which may have been a form of sausage - completely lacked flavor. the white slaw (you can also get a red version) was ok, though a little dry. the m & c was a dense, dry mass, and the method of preparation was not immediately identifiable. the collards had some heat, and a too strong vinegar after taste . the hush puppies were passable.

the ribs here were quite good, although a 3 bone plate for $8.95 is more than a little pricey because it is mostly bone, not meat, that you're getting. you do get 2 sides, but if there not very good sides, well there you are.

the setup here is basically that of a fast food place, place order and pay at the counter, get your own drink, and carry a number back to your table - food will be brought to you. the eating area is a large, open rectangle with rows of tables, so it gets noisy and a little hectic when crowded. this is a place to eat, and move on, not linger over your drink in conservation.

this is not about nc bbq versus the world. there are excellent version of all the items this place offers, even here in backwoods nc, but this place doesn't offer them, at least not to my satisfaction.

my gf and i went for dinner last night with high expectations and were sorely disappointed. ribs were the best thing we had but were nothing special. pulled pork had no smoke flavor and was a bit mushy. i wouldn't say it was bad but it was pretty pedestrian fare. thebrisketagain, no smoke flavor and really little beef flavor. my portion was dry and crumbly. sauce made it edible. the sides were ok. we had white slaw, collards, potato salad and "baked beans". everything but the beans were average i would say. the beans were bad; no sweetness, the beans were a mix of kidney and black and under cooled with a bitter starchiness in a very pasty sauce. the pulled pork egg rolls were the low point of the meal. they came out overly greasy, as if the frying oil wasn't hot enough, and filled with a very paste like pork. there were no chunks of meat in there. we spent $51 for a very mediocre bbq meal. shame on you pig daddy.

i wonder where he gets his good reviews from?!!!!. we went there after reading great reviews about this restaurant, especially a local website that ranks bib's as number 1 for his ribs!!!
i tried those ribs expecting something great... very disapointed... the ribs have no taste at all. we saw a lot of wood outside so we were excited, no smoke taste, no bbq taste and the meet is not as tender as it should... on top of that, it was cold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
we ordered beefbriskettoo, it was okay but nothing great about it and the cost of food is to the roof!!!
for the money you can get much better food at any other restaurant.

mediocre bbq. i have no idea why there are so many positive ratings for this mediocre excuse for bbq. it really is rather blah. i have eaten there multiple times and have yet to be impressed. the pork is nothing unique, the sausage is bland, thebrisketis unimpressive and the ribs are lousy. on two separate occasions, friends (who are both serious bbq fanatics and will do road trip tours to find good bbq) were decidedly unimpressed. one frankly stated he would never be back. in short, save your tastebuds by eating somewhere else.

i've been looking for a place to take family and out of towners to eat bbq since i moved to nc 4 years ago, well i think, we think we found it, everybody in our party loved it, the ribs were great and thebrisketwas the best i've ever tried, and i've tried bbq everywhere, from texas to st louis..the beans were outstanding and the slaw was owesome!!!i thought the hushpuppies were very good also. when we went it was pretty slow but the service was great, we spoke to one of the owners who was very interested along with the rest of the staff, everybody was very attentive, we also had the local draft beer, at 2bucks it was very affordable and good. we were told that the restaurant is in the process of expanding. all in all i would highly recommend this restaurant. we live about 30 minutes away yet the drive was well worth the drive!!

awesome. tried it today for lunch for the first time and thought it was great! had the beefbrisketplate with the fries. thebrisketwas fantastic; had a nice pink smoke ring, tender, juicy, and the sauce had just the right amounts of sweet and spice. the fries were like none i've ever had before...a party for my taste buds. hush puppies were perfectly crispy on the outside and moist on the inside with a unique flavor. i'm not a slaw person so i can't really give an opinion on it. overall, i loved it...will probably become my go-to bbq place.

other reviews here are off base. i think the reviewers here have never eaten bbq outside of nc....fine, but don't disparage something different cause it's different. this place is long overdue for the triad and offers some of the finest.....beans, meat and slaw i have had across the country. the puppies were excellent...though i thought they were burned at first, they actually were perfect upon poppin them in my mouth...and what was that flavor?....took some 2 hours to realize it was sage and onions...kapow! love it. not really a southern spice but thats what makes them so special. only have 3? craft beers but they got that right with anchor, highlands and a summer beer...very nice for a small selection. beans are flat out the best ever period, same with the beefbrisketsandwich (if you haven't been to the st loooey lower mid west). mac and cheese wasnt great, but everything else i tried was pretty amazing for winston and would hold its own across the states. the best thing is the price...i mean the beefbrisketsandwich plate was 6 bucks....i paid 11 for the same thing in another state. basically a lunch here will last you all day and all night, a bargain eatery that brings a different flavor to the triad...and while i love vinegar nc bbq, this is a welcome change and no you dont need extra sauces and crap to douse your meat....when i read the whiners wanting extra sauce...well, you have no clue...its about the meat smoked to perfection flavor...no sauce needed, the excellent fries dont even need ketchup...but you nc red-hot-dog eaters need to give it a try and taste meat...not sauce... no i dont work here, im just damn skippy happy they opened this up.

didn't like it.. ugh. i don't think i'll eat there again. i had the pulled pork sandwich, and although their pulled pork was moist and melt-in-your-mouth, i didn't detect much flavor. there weren't any sauces or dips to add. the red slaw was dry and flavorless, it added nothing but bulk to the bbq or the sandwich. the kaiser roll took over, overshadowed the bbq completely, and i found myself wishing for a regular cheap hamburger bun.

a friend and i, also tried the beefbrisketsandwich with white slaw. the beefbriskethad an "off" flavor, the slaw was "bitter", and again, a bun that totally overshadowed the brisket. the dog got this one.

i wanted to love the french fries, nicely seasoned with a great flavor, but ruined by the spinkling of sugar. sugar on french fries? no thanks.

the hushpuppies were too big, was also sprinkled with sugar, and i missed the onion taste of most hushpuppies. it had a nice crunch, but the inside was very heavy and dense. did i taste sage??

i am still suffering today. i can't get this bad meal out of my mind or the bottom of my stomach, and tums isn't doing the trick.
