deliciously satisfying meal after canoeing with kids. passed beckyjacks so many times on way to the kayak shack, but haven't stopped in. so glad that we did today! even though a large group came in right before us, our waitress, savannah, was very attentive and the staff friendly. my husband, two small kids, and i all enjoyed our meals. we sat outside since it was crowded inside and wanted to dry off from swimming in the springs anyway. i asked about the seafood gumbo and was promptly given a sample. it was amazing!!! i ordered a bowl in addition to my meal and our 4 year old kept asking me for "another taste" :) i love cooking (and eating) and can say confidently that my blackened fish was perfect, coleslaw delicious (not from a bucket), and again, gumbo may have been the best i ever had with thick slices of jalapeño. we always ask for hot sauce on the table and were given their "fire in the hole" sauce which was very good.greatexperience (except an accepted fly or two since dined outdoors) and will definitely be back whenever we go to weeki wachee (often). to top off the experience, we were happily surprised when we received our bill--$45 for 4 meals, my gumbo appetizer, and drinks including a glass of pinot grigio.

glad i heeded the recommendations of friends who were regular diners.greatlittle hole in the wall type restaurant. arrive early to assure seating since they only have 34 indoor seats and a few more outside. because it's a bit cramped, it's also a bit noisy, so don't expect to carry on a business conversation or propose to your finance`. however, if one wants good seafood, this is it. the crunchy fish sandwich could feed several people. the almond and corn flakes crusted fish could literally be cut into thirds and put on three buns. my cole slaw was as good as i've had anywhere. my companions were pleased with their fries. one companion tried the blue crab claw crab cakes and raved about them.

if there is a downside, it is that the waitstaff is so slammed that it's hard to get their attention and even harder to get them to respond to a request once you do get their attention. after three requests for more tartar sauce, i finally got becky herself to get us some when she checked on our level of satisfaction. next visit i'll know to ask for more tartar sauce when i place our initial order.

overall, we enjoyed our dining experience and felt that prices were very reasonable. well worth the short 1.5 miles off of us19.

managing growth a necessity to long term success. sad to see beckyjacks a miserable failure here!. we have enjoyed eating at beckyjacks many times over the past several years. you went there for the atmosphere, a "shack" providing the feeling of being on vacation in some out of the way destination. the waitresses were always friendly and the owner would come over to the table to chat. now the waitresses appear to be over their heads and all the owner does is come over to let you know there are people waiting to be seated, so hurry up. they haven't learned how to manage their success, and now they have transformed themselves into just another restaurant eager to turn tables. you went there for the atmosphere, not the food, yet the crunchy fish is served in large portions, but lets face it, its white fish in a batter, if they used a better quality fish like cod i wonder how large the portions would be. in the past we had manygreattimes there but no more, now too busy, too popular and too many no-see-ums biting you as you are forced to wait outside for a table. all good things come to an end, on to find the next food shack before it gets too popular.

great seafood restaurant. they say that you sometimes don't even know what happens on your own doorstep. i have been living in brooksville for the last 6 years and just 8 miles down the road is a fantastic seafood restaurant in weeki wachee called beckyjack's foodshack. this unassuming little place is set off the side of the road on cortez blvd, if you drove past quickly you could very well miss it. i have heard from some people that i know that this is the only place to go if you want fresh seafood and so i decided to go and try it out on saturday afternoon. the result? i may have just found the best seafood restaurant in the area. if you are not familiar with the area then weeki wachee is situated just west of us19 out towards hernando beach.

the restaurant is small, it holds maybe 20 inside at a push. the menu is concise and simple and the daily specials are hand written on a brown paper bag. the menu is a mixture of seafood items and burgers. they also have wings which i have heard are very good and i am looking forward to trying. already i was liking this place. we had 6 in our party and so we got some jalapeno hush puppies for the table to start and 12 little neck clams. both items were absolutely delicious. i am a huge fan of clams and these were juicy and a good size. the hush puppies were tasty with jut a little heat so what better way to wash it down than with a frosty cold beer.

the beer selection is very good. sure, they have bud light if you're into that but why not try one of the craft beers. we tried a leffe blonde that had agreatfruity taste to it. it really hit the spot and they had another 7 or 8 craft beers that i will be back to sample (not all at once tough). it's good to see a small little seafood restaurant (or shack) in weeki wachee taking pride in what it does with the beers as well as the food. very refreshing to see.

so onto the main event. i had ordered the crunchy fish with a crab cake, 5 bean salad and mac n cheese. my wife had the fish tacos and a couple of other people had the burger so we had a good sampling. i will let you know before i go any further that i am somewhat of a mac n cheese snob. i love it and i hold it to a very high standard when i order it out. this mac n cheese was some of the best that i have tasted - period. it was absolutely delicious. everything that i had on my plate was very very nice. i have had some good meals in the area but i would have to say that for seafood, this is the best seafood restaurant that i have been to in spring hill, brooksville or weeki wachee. nothing fancy, just damn good food.

after stuffing ourselves we ordered a chocolate cheesecake and a key lime cheesecake for the table. i very rarely ever eat dessert, i'm just not a sweet tooth. however, the key lime cheesecake was fantastic. i could have eaten a whole one to myself.

as you can probably tell by now, i really like this place. this is a place where you can go with a group of friends, have somegreatseafood, have some beer and just relax and have fun. chances are that you will best friends with everyone in the restaurant before you leave. if you find yourself in hernando county looking for somegreatseafood then be sure to check out beckyjacks food shack in weeki wachee. for my money, it's the best seafood restaurant around.

eat at beckyjack's - you'll be back!. so - you've decided to head out towards bayport or pine island to catch another awesome florida sunset. i say leave an hour early, and stop at beckyjacks's along the way. you will not be disappointed. outstanding food, greatatmosphere, down-to-earth people - not to mention the beer selection. i personally like the crunchy fish sandwich, my wife loves the soft chicken tacos (yum!), and a nice cold unique craft brew hits the spot.

why is this place still a secret?. we went to beckyjacks tonight after reading other reviews here. this quaint little spot was just what we were looking for. a little restaurant that is not too far off the beaten path, and decorated very casually.

we each ordered the crispy fish and crabbie platter, but tried different sides. the mac n cheese was amazing! many different kinds of cheese in this family recipe make this the best mac n cheese we could remember. the cole slaw wasgreatalso. the crispy fish was very tasty, with the almonds in the crust an unexpected treat. the crabbies were crab cakes full of crab, not like we have had at other places, where it is more filler and little crab.

if you are looking for a nice, clean, friendly "un-chain" casual restaurant, you owe it to yourself to try beckyjacks. we will be back, with friends.
