i've been reading and hearing wonderful things about beccofino for years. we have tried to come here before, but they don't take reservations and they are very popular. fortunately, we arrived fairly early tonight and only had to wait a few minutes for a table.
i ordered the pappardelle al ragu d'anatra and lady meatball went with the pesce del giorno (fish of the day).
the pappardelle al ragu d'anatra, thin pasta ribbons with duck and tomato ragu, was nice. the pasta was well cooked, the duck was moist and the sauce hadgoodflavor. overall, it was agooddish, but not one of the best pappardelles i've had in brisbane (the best is 1889 enoteca). this rated a 3.5.
the fish of the day was a snapper, sautéed with the skin on, served over israeli couscous. the snapper was wonderful - the best fish i've tasted in months. the couscous was tender, but slightly bland. overall, this dish rates a 4.5.
a couple glasses of wine, a menabrea beer and some nice bread rounded out our meal. i would advise you steer clear of the bellvale pinot - this was a bit harsh and missed the mark.
only other comments are that the bread appeared to be served in a stainless steel dog bowl. also, the dim lighting creates a nice atmosphere, but makes photos quite difficult - i wasn't the only one who went with a flash.
would happily return.
