went there on a tuesday after a couple of drinks around houston. the place was packed, it was restaurant month or week, they have a 45$ 3 course special. my friend took that and i got the 20oz 55-day dry-aged bone-in ribeye, with pork loin, onion rings, mac n cheese and soufflé with on other item, finished it with a cheese cake and bread pudding. everything was amazing, my steak was the highlight of the night. staff are amazing, foodis very good, also got a glass of wine and all for 167$.definitely recommended and can't wait to go back one day.

really bad. not just because this is a high end place, but really bad for a medium or low end place. the lamb was over cooked and tasteless, the vegetables were undercooked or swimming in oil, and the service was abysmal; after waiting 10 minutes for waiter to stop by i had to get up and walk over to the wait station and get menus for the table myself. waiters were flustered and did not know whatfoodwas for what table, let alone what setting, and they were walking by wiping sweat off their foreheads with their hands and then directly passing people their food. i was truly incredulous and it became a running joke throughout the meal, which is the only thing that saved the evening.

while my filet with truffle butter was good, it didn't blow me away. pappas does a better job any day. (hey that rhymed!) i liked the ambiance, our server dante was great, and i appreciate the ample parking, but thefoodwas just so-so which is disappointing considering how much we paid for everything. dessert was nothin special. an open faced ice cream sandwich... i expected something a little more decadent than just a dry cookie topped with a scoop of ice cream. oh and my boyfriend had to spit the beef sushi roll out... yikes!

b&b butchers and restaurant located in houston’s historic 6th ward at the east end of washington avenue brings a little bit of new york city to houston’s culinary scene. last night, i attended a tasting dinner as part of the houstonfoodbloggers collective that was sponsored by restauranteur benjamin berg and his team. this dining experience allowed hfbc members to appreciate various aspects of berg’s new york inspired restaurant.

berg transformed the historic dittman bakery at 1814 washington into a truly unique space combining the elements of a nyc steakhouse, a neighborhood butcher shop, a deli and a downtown skyline rooftop bar.  when i first saw b&b butchers and restaurant from the exterior, i immediately thought of nyc's meat packing district. the interior is stunning featuring exposed brick walls, lofty ceilings, wooden beams, dark wood with silver accents, and custom lighting.

berg’s experience in restaurant management, specializing in upscale steakhouses, bleeds throughout every aspect of execution and presentation. he understands the importance of the dining experience and knows how to meet clients' expectations. the staff is knowledgeable and attentive, the ambience is relaxing and stylish, and thefoodis plated beautifully and the special attention to ingredients used for each dish is what makes b&b butchers and restaurant truly memorable.

try the b&b steak house salad, crispy calamari & peppers, slice filet, roasted salmon, roasted chicken with lemon pepper sauce, the b&b mac & cheese, the any of the desserts. the cheesecake was so fluffy with a kiss of vanilla and the open face ice cream sandwich had a chocolate chip cookie that left us craving more.

go taste and see for yourself!

when the houstonfoodblogger collective made it known this was their target destination for their next get-together and tasting dinner, i jumped at the chance to participate and be able to experience b&b butchers & restaurant for the first time. i'm already looking forward to my next visit. starting with the carpet bagger oyster appetizer, fried calamari and peppers, to the b&b "steak" house salad, b&b truffled mac & cheese, a delicious chicken-fried prime pork chop, a roasted scottish salmon, and a simple but elegant sliced beef filet, all offerings were excellent. they closed with a memorable dessert trio of new york cheesecake, an open-faced ice cream sandwich, and a carrot cake. all this was coupled with an attentive service staff that expertly wedged dish after dish in between some 60-odd foodies, competing directly with our need to get pictures of everything! i also can't wait to get back and spend some more time on their rooftop deck for a twilight drink or two, with beautiful views of downtown.

highly recommend b&b for anyone looking for a new destination in the washington avenue corridor that does just about everything exceptionally well.

i have been blogging steadily here for about a month and i must say, the best thing i have done so far is join the houstonfoodbloggers collective (hfbc)! it’s a great way to network with other bloggers and for interested parties to find you/your blog.  on tuesday, i attended my first hfbc event, a menu tasting at the new houston steakhouse b&b butchers. i brought my sister along as my plus one and we took a ton of pictures, so this post will be filled with pictures :).  here is my experience:

i had the opportunity tonight to be invited along with a group of otherfoodbloggers for an evening of tasting at b&b. a very positive experience. excellent food, flawless service. one of the high points of my year. this allowed me to sample so many dishes from their menu, something that would have been challenging were one to arrive as a 'just one' to dine.
when i walked in, and by the way, this venue is absolutely beautiful, the bar was hopping and the dining room was filling up nicely. i immediately thought of the chicago or new york dining scene, where persons working downtown would unwind over drinks or dinner before heading out to their homes in the suburbs. historically, houston has been a town where people deserted the downtown area at 5:00, braving the rush hour traffic to get home to family. but maybe we are in the midst of a change. with washington avenue being so close to downtown, that is. and also, so many people living closer in, we may start to see the same thing.
and i think b&b will be one of the places. it has so many things done right. first, i will let thefoodphotos speak for themselves rather than talk about thefoodhere. i will instead talk about the outdoor patio where you can watch the lights go on around downtown as the sun sets. and about the white tablecloth dining room that is luxuriously appointed with wood details. the lovely wine room as you first walk in. and the bar and extra dining room upstairs where we had our event.

highly recommended.
