after a pretty long powwow with my friends to select a spot for our reunion, we ended up at bay146. being a part of the savera hotel, bay146 failed to match my expectations and it faltered severely on all aspects.

ambience:
the interiors were mediocre. the space was naturally lit in comparison to the other resto pubs which are usually underground and rely on artificial lighting. we had chosen a cabana as we were 6 of us, the seating was spacious. the only turn off was that it was too hot even after the ac's working. so throughout the lunch we felt sultry and couldn't enjoy the meal to the heart's content.

service:
do not expect a quick service. the kitchen service is so slow that we had to keep reminding them that it has been long enough since the order had been placed.

food:
we started off by ordering the good ol' paneer tikka. nothing fancy about it. though the paneer cubes were grilled well, the marination lacked spiciness which makes eating paneer worthwhile. it was just about average in taste.

next came the veg. fajita nachos. honestly, it was just 'doritos' in the name of nachos topped with veggies served with sour cream and salsa sauce. not close to the average tasting nachos i have ever had, but it was the best dish from among what we had ordered.

we ordered a dish of their menu called lemongrass dumpling. the description of the item read 'lemongrass flavor vegetables dumpling balls tossed with spicy thai sauce'. there was absolutely no 'lemon grass flavour' in the vegetables and it was bland contrary to the spicy as stated. it was a let down for a dish worth ₹245.

a little disappointed with the above food, we went ahead and ordered something simple as mix sauce penne pasta & vegetable sliders. the pasta tasted more like arrabbiata as the ratio of tomato sauce was more compared to white sauce. the sliders tasted good but i was expecting at least 3 sliders considering they are mini bun burgers. 2 sliders for a price of 315 was not worth it.

had also ordered two mocktails - below average. probably the reason i don't remember their names.

overall:
bay146 failed to satisfy my taste buds cause thefoodwas not appetising enough though it looked great and it was not worth the money spent. also, their service was too casual and a total mood kill.

ratings:
ambiance - 2.5/5
service - 2.5/5
food - 3/5
price - 2.5/5

savera has been around for ages and has kept itself abrest with the changes. however, i just can't get over the fact that theirfoodis still something to be desired for

food has never been their strongest point! ironic isn't it. this is like my 4th or 5th time in bay 146. i went for the launch. if it wasn't for the stand up comedy shows, i wouldn't be going there at all

i don't know how they manage to really screw up staple foods. they have something or the other missing. today it was no salt, the other day it was too much salt. there is absolutely no taste in the food

with the supreme court banning serving of liquor in hotels which are within 500 mtrs from the highway, savera has so much to gain if they play their cards right to leverage on this ban till such time its in force. they are already doing that with their standup shows but they need to go one step higher and serve awesomefoodso that people don't go elsewhere for their dinner.

i ate and drank because i had cover charges to exhaust otherwise for this kind of food, its a sin to pay so much

it was a special day for us and my partner chose this place to take me for a lunch date. i was totally clueless about the existence of bay 146 till i spotted their nameplate.

as soon as you open the door, a small stair case takes you to this beautiful place. they have both indoor and outdoor seating. the indoor has usual tables and chairs along with couches where you shrink in. the bar. while their outdoor has only table chair seating with a pool view. overall, both their set up is perfect for a romantic date especially if it's a dinner one. as the chennai weather right now is hot and sultry we preferred indoor seating.

we ordered their five course set menu which includes mock tails/drinks, salad & soup, starter, main course and dessert. i loved whatever i ate there (except for the dessert) and even my partner seemed to enjoy her meal thoroughly. for the price you pay, set menu is a steal deal. the quality of thefoodis really good with decent portion size.
their set menu is perfect if you have to treat a huge group. :d

service wise, they were good. one thing which disappointed me was we had to ask for water, that too twice. otherwise, the service was good. they had an eye over our table and got us our next course as soon as we completed one course and we dint even have to ask them.

they also gave us a complimentary cake and a bouquet which was really sweet.

love the ambiance of the resto lounge bay 146 with its 2 tier indoor seating area and the outdoor seating overlooking the pool. the indoor area has spacious, well cushioned seating and we usually seat ourselves in the upper deck enclosed seating as it allows our group some privacy too.

love their live bands, a rarity in chennai. you can carry on a conversation without being over powered by loud music.

they have an extensive drinks menu and thefoodis excellent. chef giri, makes it a point to visit the lounge and seeks feedback on the food.

sampath the manager makes sure you are comfortable and is always ensuring the guests are having a great time at his lounge. the staff are very well trained and excellent at customer service.

one among my favorite night out places :-)

a day of eating; possibly overeating!

it was a sunday evening, and my brother-in-law made a surprise visit, and took the family out for dinner. the destination of choice was bay 146 in savera hotel, as they would have a nice combo offoodand drinks. to those who follow my reviews closely, this was the same day i had lunch at nando’s, and thus my recurring tagline, on it being a day of eating.

our reservation was for 9 pm, and we got in a little after that. we were a group of 7, and were seated comfortably at one of the tables in the raised area. bay 146 is split into 4 areas. initially it’s the bar area with the bar stools by the counter, close to which is the stage and the viewing area which comes into active use on days when live bands are performing. then there are a few stairs that lead to a slightly raised area that has tables, which is more for the groups who want to have a sit-down experience, better suited for eating. the final area is an outdoor area, which allows for smokers, and does have some tables as well. all the 4 areas are not far apart, and can be seen from each other. bay 146 used to be the night club sparks, and in its new avatar is a lot classier and attracts way better crowd. ambiance is nice, as the space is planned well.

we got started off by ordering a round of cocktails, and starters. note that the menu on zomato is limited, and at the restaurant you’re given more options, by means of separate bar andfoodmenus. i’m not going to list all the drinks, but if my memory serves me right, there was 1 long island iced tea, 1 peach cosmopolitan, 1 fancy looking mocktail, and 2 cherry drinks; both a little different, with varying additives, but with cherry essence. i had one of those cherry drinks and quite liked it; it was dark maroon, and had a nice cherry-fruity-alcohol flavor. i tasted the other cherry drink, which was lighter and pink in color, and found the lime in it a bit sharp. i also tasted the peach cosmopolitan, which was the strongest of the lot. most of the drinks were served in a slanting glass (think leaning tower of pisa); check out the pictures if you don’t believe me.

the starters we ordered included 2 veg dishes, the stuffed mushroom, and a tandoori aloo, and 2 non-veg dishes, the fried calamari, and a continental style crumb fried fish. all the starters were nice, the taste being consistently good. the presentation was nice, the calamari coming with two dips, a red and a continental white. the batter fried fish was served with tartar sauce, in a fish shaped plate. usually when the offerings are many, there is a risk of some of them being average. thankfully this was not the case. the calamari wasn't over fried, and all the flavors were just right.

as for the main course, i’m going to cover just 2 dishes, my own, which was a tenderloin steak, and a vegetable au gratin. after some browsing of the menu, and i will admit that bay 146 had some nice options, i decided on a beef steak. i ordered for it medium-rare, in a pepper sauce. it arrived served on a sizzler plate, two fillets of beef, on violet cabbage, with a slice of boiled corn on the cob, some boiled vegetables, and a little steamed rice. i immediately gave away the rice, and then got to work on the steak. ever since my mind-blowing rib-eye steak experience in the us, i've come to except just about okay/decent steak here in chennai; some places being even lesser than others. i’m led to believe that this is largely due to the grade of meat available, and the scale at which it’s prepared and consumed overseas. anyways, once my steak on hand had cooled a little, i had my first piece, and was surprised by how nice it was. the meat was good, the preparation was nice, the pepper sauce flavorsome, and the texture likable too. the more of it i consumed, the more i enjoyed it.

i remember a jovial and talkative friend of mine from calcutta who used to usually go quiet once thefoodwas served. he said the silence could be attributed to the focus on the meal. my experience with this beef steak at bay 146 was similar. there wasn't so much as a whisper that came out of me, till that steak was completely put away. oh god was it a good steak; one that was well beyond my expectations. i’d quite recommend this steak to those who enjoy tenderloin steak. while it’s certainly not in the league of my rib-eye benchmark, i’m aware that wouldn't be a fair comparison. i also tried the vegetable au gratin which was nice. the veggies were well cooked and soft, and the cheesy consistency was good. the cooling thick upper layer of cheese was particularly flavorsome; another dish that was good.

the service was a mixed bag. the orders were taken quick, and most of it was okay. while there was nothing special to mention, there was one waiter who seemed a little off. he wasn't speaking clearly, was coming close to the guest’s ear and whispering, while also not really understanding what they were asking or saying to him. the same person also served the vegetable au gratin to the wrong person, and told us it was another dish. not sure if he was just nervous and confused, but it did seem a bit off. outside of this, which didn't really bother us too much, the rest of it was pretty decent.

though i’m unaware of the final bill amount, i’d safely say that for a drink each, a single starter, and a main course each, it would be about inr 2500 for two people, including taxes. a bigger group like ours was able to try many starters and have a few options. at the end of that day, if ever you’re looking for a place that serves good drinks and food, i’d certainly recommend bay 146. with its pleasing ambiance, sit-down dinner offering, and very good food, it makes for an ideal dinner with drinks sorta affair.

in a nutshell:
location – 9/10
ambiance – 8/10
service – 7/10
cost – 7/10
taste – 8/10

had been here on a weekday afternoon. arrived at 1330 and was shocked to find the place in a mess- some of the chairs and tables were lying scattered in the upper indoor area. this despite the fact that there were 4 other customers already present. and even after we were seated, no one bothered to arrange those other chairs and tables. this gave the place a very shabby and unkept look. the place needs maintenance. this is the last thing we expected from a superb hotel like savera. every other restaraunt in savera is excellent, hence we were disappointed with this place.
thefoodhowever was excellent!

this place is always buzzing on saturdays and sundays with a decent crowd and some live shows.

ambience: a chilled out ambience with an outdoor seating option for smokers and also a screen for viewing matches in the outdoor area. they've got a nice little stage inside for comedy, music and other types of shows.

food: i mainly go here for their cocktails which i think are quite good and reasonably priced. theirfoodis also quite good. no complaints. but i wouldn't say it's anything above the usual.

price: with the zomato gold, it's decently priced.

one thing is, sometimes they ask you to pay entry totally out of the blue. and another thing i faced was that they got my bill wrong, twice, which was a little annoying.

i would go back here to chill sometime.
