bavarian grill

ausgezeichnet!. i've been coming to bavarian grill before the large biergarten went in. in fact, the bar was in the far corner of the restaurant and only had a few stools before they went "big time".

every time i came back, from that point onward, the food, the beer, the atmosphere... everything has been unbeatable. if you truly consider yourself a lover of german food, nobody in this area can top anything on the menu, especially the schnitzels. my favorite is the jägerschnitzel, with the decadent mushroom gravy, but the classic schnitzel is also one to be had. you must visit several times and try a new item on the menu. nothing will disappoint.

...and i'm not just saying that because jürgen and i love the music of heino, which you may hear at the restaurant if you're lucky. their food really is that good, and for the love of all that is decent and holy, please order a liter to go with the meal. bavarian grill is great food, great beer, and a lively atmosphere that cannot be missed.

it was great! big portions, awesome pretzel rolls and you haven't lived until you have heard the happy birthday song played using cow bells!

restaurant is old and musty and needs a total makeover while keeping with the theme. food was just ok yet extremely overpriced. the schnitzel was good but everything else we were served was nothing better than i could prepare at home. they no longer serve bread but give you a basket of store bought mini pretzels with mustard. won't return or recommend it.

we have been to bavarian grill many times over the years. its thematically decorated inside and the staff wear german clothes. (there is also an elevated train that runs around the ceiling of the main room.) we also took my mother-in-law who is of german descent, and lived in germany for some years, and she liked the place a lot.
the waitstaff is always cheerful and helpful. i do find that, in german style, the meal is never rushed. sometimes this is great, but if i'm in a hurry i need to go somewhere else because this isn't fast food.
my favorite is the rinder rouladen, but everything here is good. you get a different variety of vegatables than at most restaurants as well.
a nice plus is a large range of german beers.
although this is hard to find behind rousseau village, this is well worth the search!

i was hankering for german and bavarian grill was nearby so i popped in.  i'm really glad that i did because the meal was great and the service both efficient and knowledgeable.

to top off the meal there was great entertainment and everyone in the restaurants enjoyed the music and the antics and jokes between songs.

my family has frequented this restaurant since it opened in 1993 and we'll never tire of it. i'm sure it has to do with the fact that my family is straight from germany and you can't find authentic german cuisine around our tiny little town, but it's more than just that. the atmosphere is always lively, the band always crazy (in a good way) and the level of service is outstanding. juergen certainly treats you like family. it's a bit pricey for every day, but certainly worth it for special occasions - we almost always celebrate my dad's birthday here. you know the place is good if we'll drive over 50 miles for it.

jurgen is awesome - don't forget the stein challenge. the owner jurgen is awesome. he cares so much about his place. i do think the pricing at bavarian is too high for what you get. that makes this a special occasion place for me. what really draws me here is their beer list and challenge. if you head over to the bar section of the restaurant, you will see walls of steins. inside or hanging behind each one is a german beer checklist. i posted a picture of the checklist in the gallery. as you try a beer, check it off. when the list is complete you get a stein on the wall. it's yours to use whenever you visit. i love the beer and the challenge. a word of caution, some of the beer is expensive. one beer last night was $11.50. that's not cheap.

loved it! my dad and i went for dinner here the first night we were in dallas. we had so much fun and good food that the next night after driving around for a long time trying to decide where to have dinner we just turned around and headed back to the bavarian grill again!

deceptive practice. great place if you like to wait for two hours for a table. the host told us they would seat us after they clean up the tables of a party of 30 that was leaving. in the mean time he was pushing us to the bar for the obvious reason.
after the first hour we started getting annoyed. he promised us that it would be very soon before we would be seated. we watched as empty tables sat vacant for 30 to 40 minutes at a time. now we were starting to get upset.
after a two hour wait, we were finely seated at a table that we observed to have been empty for over 35 minutes.
how could anyone enjoy a meal after that!

this is always a family favorite for celebrating birthdays. they bring our the cowbells and have you dance to the chicken dance. i love the schnitzel and spatzel and creamed spinach. you just can't go wrong with bavarian grill.

bad experience!. just had a pretty horrible experience. we drove 3 hours (from kilgore) to take my daughter to dinner for her 30th birthday. had reservations at 7 for 7 people. at 7:30, my husband went to ask how much longer and told them there would only be 6 of us. they seated us shortly after at the first table by the door. when we got to the table, there was water in my chair so i asked the young lady if we could get a cloth to wipe it up. she left and didn't return. several minutes later, i was still standing when our waitress came to get our drink order so i asked her and she wiped it up right away. they left us one basket of five rolls. there were six of us. our waitress took our order and proceeded to disappear for the remainder of our meal. a young man brought our food. i asked if salads no longer came before the food. he sighed and said, "servers... we just came off a rush. she'll bring them right out." several minutes later, i stopped jorgen and again asked about the salads. they finally came. my water was empty for most of my meal. i was thirsty. then, to top it off, my sister ordered food to go for her husband. when she got home (wylie) she discovered the salad wasn't in the bag! seriously? it wasn't that busy when we left. i loved this place, but the service during our last 2 visits was awful! this was the worst yet! no drink, no salad, not enough bread for everyone, no waitress for most of our meal. just bad.

so so german food. ok not the best i have had.

we are always pleased when we visit bavarian grill. it's our go-to when other restaurants disappoint. happy hour prices are excellent. always good food, good music and good people. the one time the food did disappoint, jurgen was quick to make up for it.

good food great atmosphere. if you like german food you'll love this place.

very dissapointed. years ago my family had many wonderful meals at the bavarian grill. my wife and i visited it for the first time in a long time yesterday evening. we were very disappointed. the food was bland and served luke warm. i had the saurbraten(sp?) - the meat was dry/tough with little flavor, the egg shaped dumpling had a plastic(?) taste, the red cabbage was good. my wife had the renderrould(?) - the meat was ok, the mashed potatoes were instant and the creamed spinish was cold (not even luke warm).

the service was good.

needless it will be a while before we try again.

btw - if you want awesome austrian/german food try jorg's cafe viena in old town plano. you'll be glad you did. everything is incredibly fresh, prepared when you order it, food is out of this world, best ingredients, piping hot... great service...
