too busy to care. i made reservations at this place especially to take my father for a nice meal to celebrate his 80th birhtday. german food is his favorite and i was very excited to find a place that came so highly recommended. we got there on time for our reservation and it appeared to me that our reservation was lost. the host did seat us immediately but he gave us a tiny table that was right in the flow of traffic and every time the staff passed by one or the other of us was knocked aside. the host took our order and our food did arrive in a timely manner but once it was dropped off at our table no one ever came back to check on us. i mean no one ever came back to check on us. we sat there with empty drinks and dirty plates for over 45 minutes. this was with all the staff bumping us aside every two minutes but not even bothering to look to see our fingers sticking up or acknowledging an excuse me. when we finally managed to get someone's attention, his response was "if i was your waiter, this would never have happened but , you're not my table so what do you want me to do about it?" i asked to see the manager but he told me that would do no good, he'd get me the owner. i explained to the owner the reason for our visit and how we would have liked to order dessert, but no one had ever returned to the table. he mumbled about being understaffed and offered to have someone come over and play "happy birthday" on the cow bells, but i explained to him that we were not interested in calling attention to ourselves, we had just wanted to spend an enjoyable evening with each other to celebrate. he then said that he didn't know what we expected him to do. i told him nothing, just please give us a check so we could get out of there. he did then take care of our check but he seemed angry and not in the least bit sorry that he had spoiled a special occasion. i wonder how many restaurant owners know how something that seems a small irritation to them can really make the difference between a joyous family celebrtation and a devestating one. this owner was just too busy to give a darn and i say "shame on you, sir."!
