ahh, my hidden gem. i've been going to this restaurant since the early 90s. word of mouth brought me there as it was a true hidden gem. the word has since gotten out and it is a place for thai/laotian, and hipsters alike. just off rt 33 on refugee road, the building is very non-descript and inside it is very homey thai (or should i say laotian since a dependable source of mine says that the family is actually laotian). service is very informal, so don't be in a hurry. relax for god's sake. the menu is filled with specialties (love the mussels), noodle dishes - yes the pad thai is excellent (challenge yourself and try something new), soups, thai salads, and exotic deserts you will find nowhere else. my usuals are the mussels, pad prik nor mai, and yen ta pho/soup. i've never found yena pho at any other thai restaurant. it is wonderful. the broth is sweet and addictive. it has wide rice noodles topped with seafood including my favorite fish balls and fried tofu (it could be another type of fish, but i'm pretty sure it's tofu fried till bread-like). i've brought many friends there and have sucessfully converted my young nephews into loving the food here. oh, and did i emphasize that the soup broth is fantastic? this is a great family restaurant. the food is excellent for the price - you're supporting local too. don't forget to visit the grocery store next door. i love the kitchen cooking trinkets. i always try something i never had before - a challenge to expand my taste experiences to the fullest.

bangkok is like bangkok. been to plenty of thai restaurants in ca and thailand and this place is legit. taste like some of the best thai meals i had in thailand. too bad we live in the opposite side of town or i would go here once a week. keep in mind they have funny hours, so go there early.

thai food minus airfare. i had ordered the pad thai (chicken, spicy) for lunch and i'm very pleased that it wasn't soggy or too greasy. the spicy was a bit tame like for wussy americans so next time i will try the thai hot spicy to see how it compare to my past trip in thailand. you won't daeoh restaurants decor here. this place is about food and bear efficiency in resemblance to the small family owned chinese restaurants. if you want to relax, good ambient, and classy service, look elsewhere. this place isn't a coffeehouse. come with your hunger pang and get full.

i first found out about bangkok in '98 when i asked a thai guy at a popular thai restaurant in grandview where i could get the most authentic thai food in columbus. i've since spent a total of about a year in thailand and he was absolutely right. if you want real, unamericanized thai food, this is the place. try the tod mon plah, som tam with sticky rice, pad gra pow, pad see-ew, panang curry, tom kha, tom yum, pak boong... it's all almost exactly like what i get in thailand. on the weekends, they have a big selection of homemade thai desserts. the servers are great, but there are usually only 1 or 2 to cover the dining room and constant carryout traffic, so don't go in a hurry during lunch and dinner rush. also, be sure to check out the thai market next door!

as far as authentic thai food goes, it's not the best you can do in this city--from my field research, i'd say that honor goes to bangkok hands down....

my favorite hole in the wall spot. i have been going here for over 10 years and its still my favorite place to eat. its columbus's hidden treasure in my opinion. i recommend the chicken phad kee mow. its so good that i can't get myself to order anything different.

very good in columbus, ohio. we loved pad thai 05 just down the road. one time we went on tuesday, the day it was closed, so we tried bangkok restaurant on refugee road. the servers were good. the food was good. the inside is dark and dreary. there were many asian families which is a very good sign of a good asian restaurant.

best place for pho in columbus!. seriously the best place for pho in columbus. my boyfriend and i go here often and always get the noodle "soup" which is actually pho bo.

it's so fresh! the broth is always so flavorful and there is tons of meat and tendons and yummy bits in it. they never skimp on it like other restaurants in columbus that serve pho do. it's the amount you'd give yourself if you were making it at home!

we usually get the baby spring rolls as an appetizer. they are always fresh and hot.

the service is always prompt and friendly, but not annoyingly so.

i'd say, if you are looking for a place that has a trendy atmosphere, don't go here. this place has apparently been in the same location for forever and is family owned.

go to haiku or something if you want a [stuffy out of date trendy kind of] place to be seen at (with mediocre food blah!).

go to bangkok if you want to feel comfy and have really great food that will fill you up and not take all of your money.

bangkok is pretty good. they have pad thai, tom kai gai, papaya salad, etc. wish it weren't so far away and that they didn't close at 8pm. other than that their service is pretty good. there's a waitress there that i really like because she's so polite.

authentic thai. i have lost count of the number of times that i have eaten here. the place is not fancy. . .seriously not fancy! the food is the closest that you will get to real thai food. there is a grocery store right next door owned by the same family. this is the pad thai that i think of when i compare everyone else. they have these noodle soups that are a meal. if you tell them that you want it thai hot, you better have a fire extinguisher handy. reasonable prices and they also offer home made take home deserts that you will not find elsewhere.
